When the need was greatest, they stepped forward and did their duty to defend the freedoms that we enjoy, and to win the same for others. O God, you yourself have taught us that no love is greater than that which gives itself for another. These honored dead gave the most precious gift they had, life itself, for loved ones and neighbors, for comrades and country and for us. Help us to honor their memory by caring for the family members they have left behind by ensuring that their wounded comrades are properly cared for, by being watchful caretakers of the freedoms for which they gave their lives, and by demanding that no other young men and women follow them to a soldier s grave unless the reason is worthy and the cause is just. Holy One, help us to remember that freedom is not free. There are times when its cost is, indeed, dear. Never let us forget those who paid so terrible a price to ensure that freedom would be our legacy. Though their names may fade with the passing of generations, may we never forget what they have done. Help us to be worthy of their sacrifice. O God, help us to be worthy. Contact the Vocations Office Quo Vadis is a 4 day camp held at Black Rock Retreat Center. The camp is run by the Vocations Office and the seminarians from St., Charles Borromeo Seminary. During this camp, high school aged men from grade 9 to 12 will participate in great talks and small group discussions, outdoor activities, sports, daily Mass, and Liturgy of the Hours. Oxford Lion s Club Bingo Join us Thursday, May 31st in our Parish Hall as we host the Oxford Lion s Club Bingo event. This is a cash bingo fundraiser starting with a food truck from 5:00-6:30 and Bingo beginning at 6:30 pm. There is an Early Bird special card at 6:30 pm. Come out and have fun while supporting the good works of our local Lion s Club. Come Closer to Jesus We would like to invite and encourage Parishioners and visitors who may have difficulty approaching the Altar to receive the Eucharist, to please move to the front pews of the Church. Any front row of pews from the Blessed Mother s side, to front rows in the center to the front row of St. Joseph s side are available for seating of anyone who may need assistance; for example, using walkers or wheelchairs. Our Pastor, Father Mike and our assisting Priests and Deacons would like to offer Holy Communion directly to you. Father Mike would like to begin the weekend of June 2, 2018 in having our most special friends of God closer to Jesus. 6 HOW TO VOLUNTEER With so many fun additions to our annual event comes the need for many VOLUNTEERS! Please consider donating an evening of your time volunteering. We need everything from folks to staff booths, to face painters to baked goods. Just visit the link and discover the many ways to get involved: **The link is also on our parish website for your convenience Parish Festival Prizes Needed We will have a game of chance for children at the Parish Festival June 26th - June 30th. We are in need of NEW toys as prizes for boys and girls. Small items from $1-$3 would be ideal. Collection of items will be from June 2nd to June 17th. Items can be dropped off in the parish hall after masses or in the Parish Office during business hours. This year we ve added so much MORE to this event: In addition to our Bake Tent and Italian Tent, featuring La Sicilia food, we are adding a new Wine and Beer Garden Tent featuring Flickerwood Wine Cellars, Bog Turtle Brewery and Hollow Earth Brewing Co. There will also be a designated KID ZONE with games for all ages and lots of prizes.
