THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK: If a loved one is dealing with a serious illness, it is wise to notify the parish office as soon as possible. 2 Celebrate Advent Days in Preparation of the Nativity of the Lord Here are some opportunities and ways to help you prepare for the Celebration of the Birth of our Lord Little Blue Books - Please take one home with you to assist with your spiritual preparation each day during the Advent season. Parish Spirit of Christmas Giving Tree - help to make sure everyone has a gift to open this Christmas by providing for the needy in our parish and our community. A list of agencies we are helping is on display in the narthex. Parish Individual Confessions - Additional opportunities to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance will be offered on December 16th and 23rd at 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm. Larry Richards Sacred Heart Christmas Giving Tree This year we will once again be helping those in need in our Community. The trees are decorated with a variety of items that are needed to make the holidays bright for others. Donations will be accepted until December 20th. Donations can be returned, unwrapped under the trees with the tag attached so they can be directed to the correct place. This year, the following will be the recipients of your generosity: Oxford Area Neighborhood Services Center * Lighthouse Youth Center * WARE Manor Divine Sent Food Cupboard * Needy parish & community families Catholic Social Services -VA Center in Coatesville, PA * Parish and community shut-ins SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT: HOPE For those who do not receive envelope mailings, there are envelopes available at the desk in the narthex for anyone who would like to make a donation toward Christmas Flowers in memory of a loved one. The names of those remembered will be published in January. We light another purple candle on the second Sunday of Advent to represent the hope of Christ coming to the world. The word "hope" has two meanings in the Bible. The first, tiqvah, contains the sense of eager anticipation or waiting. The second, elpis. depicts a sense of confident expectation based on certainty. Biblical hope is secured by God's faithfulness to His promises. For the Old Testament leaders, their hope was in the Messiah's arrival. For us, it is the hope of the Messiah's return. God's plan for humanity unfolded in the town of Bethlehem, the birthplace of the Messiah, joyously fulfilling a long-awaited promise. In this keynote session from the 2017 FOCUS SEEK Conference, Archbishop Charles Chaput articulates his advice for how Catholics can build bridges to reach people of different ideologies. He warns against being an obstacle to these bridges by indulging in pride, fear, and the noisiness of the culture. Archbishop Chaput equips his listeners with the inspiration, encouragement, and practical advice necessary to take on the work of evangelization in their own families, friend groups, and communities. The session ends with a question-and-answer format in which Archbishop Chaput addresses some of his listeners most poignant wonderings. Parish Access Code : HYDX3W A Taste of Heaven Awaits in Eucharistic Adoration Come Let Us Adore Him During this busy Advent Season, if you are tired and overwhelmed by your many duties and responsibilities, if you are trying to find meaning in life, then come spend some quiet time with our precious Lord Jesus Christ. Abandon yourself to Jesus in this "Sacrament of Love" and He will refresh you! The more time you spend with Jesus, the more you will come away feeling renewed and healed. He is always there waiting for you. Eucharistic Adoration is open to all and is held on Tuesday from 8 am to 6:45 pm and concludes with a 7 pm Mass. We are interested in extending the Adoration hours on Tuesday night for those who are not free to attend Adoration during the day. However, we need volunteers for the evening hours, i.e., 7:30 pm to 10 pm. If you are interested in becoming an adorer, or would like to know more about Eucharistic Adoration, you may contact Joann Di Liberto at or you may leave your contact information in the steel box in the Narthex, next to the Statue of the Sacred Heart, and Joann will contact you. 5 Sacred Heart School News On Wednesday November 22nd, Art Teacher Mrs. Joann Saltysiak and the students of Sacred Heart School unveiled this amazing Bottle Cap mural. This 2-year project telling the Creation Story was constructed by students in grades K-8 and will soon find a permanent home here on our campus. Thanks to all who worked so very hard on this amazing piece of artwork. Thanks also to those alumni, former teachers and parishioners who attended this special event! Catholic Schools Week is Coming! The Annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition is scheduled in the Sacred Heart School Gym for Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 9:00 AM. All boys and girls aged are welcome. A parent or guardian must be present to sign the participant s entry form. Participants do not need to be a member of a basketball team to enjoy the competition. Older Adults: Do you want to stay at home safely, but need a little help getting to the store, a doctor appointment, or even need a ride to church? Do you need a little help organizing in your home, or would you just like a parishioner from Sacred Heart to spend a little time with you every once in a while? Potential Volunteers: Do you have time to help an older adult parishioner in need? Do you feel called to help others or give back to the church? Helping an older adult parishioner can be very rewarding and is so appreciated by those who are in need. There are one-time and ongoing opportunities. We accommodate all schedules and will set up either a short or long term match with a parishioner in need. Opportunities are based on your schedule and flexibility - any amount of time you re able to give is enough! Here s a FREE Rosary Repair Service For 20 years Betty & Dick Holden have been repairing broken rosaries. They also take donations of unused or broken rosaries which they repair and send on to the missions. We have lots of parts. The service is free but Betty and Dick gladly accept $2 or $3 to cover the cost to ship back to you. "People know their rosaries. They say to me, 'Oh these were blessed by the Pope, or they were given to me on my First Communion, or these belonged to my mother,' " Holden said. Do you like providing hospitality to those in need? We have the position for you! Sacred Heart is looking for a volunteer to assist our Family Promise team as a Head Coordinator. This would entail coordinating volunteers, meal drop offs, and overnight stays for one week at a time, four times a year. You will have a team of coordinators to help with supply purchases, set up/ breakdown in the hall, and a co-head coordinator as well as all the lovely volunteers who give of their time during the week.
