When we celebrate a holiday, we have a meal; when we celebrate a significant event, we have a feast. In today's first reading, Lady Wisdom is setting a feast, a sign of celebrating the covenant that Israel has with God. Israel's central remembrance of its saving Exodus covenant is the Passover meal. So it is natural--and not coincidental--that the Christian celebration of the new covenant sealed by the blood of Christ on the cross happens at a meal, our Eucharist, offered first by Jesus in the context of Passover remembrance. It is easy for us, sometimes, to forget the very long and rich religious and human origins of our eucharistic feasting on the bread and cup that are the Body and Blood of Jesus. Today, and for the next few Sundays that we hear the "Bread of Life" discourse from John, let us bring to mind the loving covenant that God makes with us, and be filled with great joy at this marvelous feast that we have come to attend! 4 St. Rose of Lima 37th Annual International Fall Festival St. Rose of Lima Festival Grounds 2018 rides will be located across the street from the church. Festival Work Days! It s time to get our festival grounds and booths in working order. We ll meet at the festival grounds at 8:00 am on Saturdays: September 8th, 15th, 22nd Please make every effort to attend as many workdays as possible to make OUR festival amazing! 6 CCD / Faith Formation Registration Registration forms are located on our parish website, at the Welcome Desk in the church vestibule, and in our parish office. Please note: If your child will be enrolled in the second grade, then it s time for First Holy Communion. Please complete the registration form and bring it and your child s baptismal certificate to the office. Classes begin September 9th at 9:15 am. Adult Education: Acts of the Apostles This 20 week series provides a historic framework for understanding the rest of the New Testament. St. Paul s letters in particular come alive in a new way when they are read within the context of the Acts narrative. Each class topic runs weekly. Classes begin in the St. Rose of Lima room: Monday, September 10th at 6:00 pm Tuesday, September 11th at 9:00 am Thursday, September 13th at 6:00 pm Sunday, September 16th at 9:15 am Register at the Welcome desk in the vestibule. Feast of St. Rose of Lima Parish Celebration 11:00 am Bi-lingual Mass August 26st (NO 1:00 pm Spanish Mass) Potluck Luncheon in the Parish Hall Children who would like to participate by leading the processions and placing flowers at the feet of St. Rose are asked to be in the vestibule by 10:45 am. Flowers will be provided. For the reception, bring your favorite dish to share! Drop off to the parish hall from 10:00 am until serving time after Mass. Ladies Auxiliary Hidden Treasure Sale Many thanks to all those who supported the Ladies Auxiliary s Hidden Treasure Yard Sale. Whether you donated items, shopped for new treasures or simply attended the sale, your support is greatly appreciated. In addition to providing assistance to the St. Rose parish community, your generous donations were shared with St. Vincent de Paul, Alpha Center, Family Resource Center and the Literacy Program. Special thanks to the Knights of Columbus for their assistance. THANK YOU parishioners who volunteered to help with Feeding the Gulf Coast Mobile Food Pantry! We distributed more than 180 bags of food to feed over 350 family members, which provided a minimum of 1,000 meals to those who are in need. YOU are the reason we are an AMAZING parish!!

Sacrament of Reconciliation Every Saturday from 2:00-3:30 pm, and every first Monday of the month from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Confessions will be heard in the chapel. Sacrament of Marriage Marriage preparation must begin at least six months prior to the date of the wedding. Call the parish office to make an appointment with either Msgr. Reed or Fr. Hank. Anointing of the Sick Anointing is administered to bring spiritual strength and healing during an illness, before surgery or procedures, and especially near time of death. Call the parish office to make arrangements.
