2 Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time Lord, when your glory appears, my joy will be full. - - Psalm 17 Thank you for attending Mass with us today. Life Everlasting The second book of Maccabees tells a powerful story, and a rather gruesome one at that. But central to it, beyond the horrible deaths inflicted upon the brothers and their mother, is their belief in the promise of resurrection and life everlasting in God. Paul asks the Thessalonians to pray for him as he spreads Christ's message of love, so that he might be delivered from other nonbelievers anxious to do him harm. The apostle is confident in such prayer, just as he is confident in the everlasting support of Jesus and God the Father. And there's that "everlasting" word again. The Sadducees, not buying the idea, ask Jesus an interesting-- albeit meaningless--question about the status of married life at the Resurrection. He tells the non-believers that marriage isn't an issue for the risen children of God. More importantly, he assures them that their ancestors do live on in God, even as evidenced by the Father's words to Moses. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co Jubilee for Prisoners One of the most moving images of Pope Francis' ministry comes from Holy Thursday. Slowly, deliberately, Francis kneels down before prisoners--men, women, young, old, Christian, Muslim--and washes their feet, recalling Jesus admonition to Peter: "If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet" (John 13:14). On today's Jubilee for Prisoners, whose rights the Church bids us advocate, Jesus declares in the Gospel, "to [God] all are alive" (Luke 20:38). Have we "imprisoned" anyone figuratively, but no less painfully, passing harsh judgment, then refusing our respect, acceptance, even affection? This month of All Saints and All Souls bids us reflect on our eternal destiny and prepare for it. Respect for ourselves and others, souls and bodies, practical care for neighbors and strangers: such witness affirms that we view our present in light of our future, and believe that, even now, in our midst, stands the Lord of life, the living Jesus. --(c) J. 3 St. Rose of Lima Ladies Society Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) One of the most worthwhile things we do for our diocese and parishes is the Burse Club. The ladies founded it in 1975 when we became a diocese, and over the years we have donated $4 million! This money goes for tuition, books and room and board for the seminarians studying to be priests in our diocese. If you are a member of this parish you are a member of the Ladies Society. You are either an active or an in-active member, it is up to you. Where ever you go, what ever you say or do reflects on your faith and ours as a group of Catholic Women. In the bulletin today you will find an application to become a more active member of our group. Please fill it out and bring it back to the church next weekend. God Bless us all. Saving Babies and Helping Homeless Moms November 11 6:30 pm Ave Maria Hall Cathedral of the Sacred Heart 1212 East Moreno Street, Pensacola The lives of thousands of unborn, defenseless babies are lost to abortion in the Pensacola-Tallahassee Diocese each year. Mary s Shelter Gulf Coast, near the Florida- Alabama state line along Highway 98, and Good Counsel homes from New Jersey have recently partnered to save babies and help homeless mothers in the area. Dr. and Mrs. Ernie Cyr and the Emerald Coast Coalition for Life invite you to celebrate the progress of Good Counsel Mary s Shelter with Bishop Gregory Parkes, Christopher Bell, the co-founder of Good Counsel, and a resident mom who chose life. Antioch weekend is just for that. It is a retreat to grow as individuals and as a youth community. It s NOT like the retreats of the past, If you haven t experienced Antioch, this is the year to do it! It is a dynamic weekend, full of sharing, discussion, music, food, prayer, games and more. Antioch is a St. Rose of Lima parish based program for all high school youth. Antioch is a weekend that can truly transform your life! You may register at any Youth Group Meeting where forms are available or come by the Youth office during regular business hours, Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 5 pm, and on Fridays from 8:30 am to noon. 4 Thanksgiving Baskets St. Rose of Lima parish is providing Thanksgiving meals for registered parishioners who are in need this year. We re asking for your help in supplying food items for the baskets. A list of items needed is available for pick up in the vestibule. Please bring your donations to the vestibule on the weekends of November 6th and 13th, and place them in the shopping carts. Turkeys will be provided. Thank you! Please write the name of your loved one on an All Souls envelope located in the vestibule and drop it in the collection basket. All donations will be used to help our seminarians through the Burse Club. Sanctuary Lamp The Sanctuary Lamp at the Altar will burn this week for the repose of the soul of Eddie Melton + All Souls Day Ecumenical Candlelight Prayer Service Wednesday, November 2nd at 6 pm St Michael s Cemetery, Pensacola Bishop Parkes will be the celebrant. This annual service dates back to the 18 th century when Pensacola was held by the Spanish, making it one of the most historic traditions in Pensacola. All are invited to attend.
