3 PASTORAL MESSAGE Our parish has a long history of many great lay youth directors. These are people who have poured themselves into the religious education of our youngest parishioners, strengthened their faith, and built friendship and fellowships that last a lifetime. Some of our former youth directors have gone on to be ordained and serve the Church in clerical ministry. The benefit of having a non-ordained youth director is that all their time is dedicated to the youth programs of the parish, without having to tackle the other pastoral and liturgical duties of a clergyman. For the past few years we have seen our youth programs explode with vigor and enrichment, thanks to the unending efforts of Fr. Kosmas. We have also seen many of our other ministries likewise flourish and thrive during this period. However, with a parish of 600 families, there is always more work to be done in bringing Christ into the lives of all our parishioners. You may remember that one of the key goals of our Strategic Plan is to reach a point where the parish can sustain a ministry team of two priest and a lay youth director. With the strength of our youth programs secure, we are ready to make that goal a reality. We are in a position that not many parishes are, with an abundance of resources. Through a generous bequest, our parish has established an endowment fund to support 50% of the salary for a fulltime youth director. Thanks to this gift, and the potential of more financial support via various youth related grants that the parish is pursuing, we look to hire a lay youth director within the coming months. Much of this has already been shared with the parish and discussed at our General Assemblies over the past 18 months. During that time, while preparing for the day when we are financially able to offer this position, I have met with many candidates for our youth director. I serve on the Alumni Association for Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. During the semiannual meetings of the Alumni Association on the HCHC campus in Boston, with the help of the Office of Vocation and Ministry and the Dean of Student Life, I have interviewed multiple students and followed their progress both academically and in their youth work; at camps, in GOYA programs, and their assigned parish field work assignments. I have also met with local candidates to develop people in the Chicagoland area who might be great fits for our parish. All of this is to say that the parish has put a lot of work, research, and thought into the application process. We are looking for the right youth director, not just a youth director. A similar level of thought and planning has gone into how we will transition to this new youth director, in light of the superb ministry of Fr. Kosmas. Let me be clear in saying that looking to hire a new youth director is not an indication that Fr. Kosmas will be leaving us. He will simply be shifting to take on more pastoral duties alongside myself so that the same strength, order, and vigor that we see in our youth programs can be developed in our current and new ministries for the parish as a whole. As we spent the better part of a year planning and preparing for a new youth director, we will also have a comparable transition period where Fr. Kosmas oversees and hands the reins of the youth program to our new youth director. Consistency is important for the youth program and we will make sure that the transition will be seamless. May the Risen Christ guide us in hiring the right person to build up the faith of our youth, and may He grant the clergy of our parish increased opportunities to minister to all the faithful of our community. + Fr. Panagiotis

6 Financial Snapshot & Stewardship At-A-Glance by Voula Colburn, SSPP Treasurer and Steve Callas, SSPP Stewardship Chair In an effort to be transparent with our stewards, we will be communicating a financial snapshot to our parishioners on a quarterly basis on behalf of Parish Council. Total Support and Revenue is comprised of Stewardship, Church Offerings, Educational and Other Income. Total Support and Revenue Total Support and Revenue was $1,916,908 for the year ending 12/31/2017 as compared to $1,249,541 for the year ending 12/31/2016. Stewardship Stewardship accounted for $640,028 of total support in 2017 versus $599,970 in the prior year. Since the financials are on a cash basis, stewardship totals include monies designated by parishioners for the prior and upcoming years. It should be noted that the trend for stewardship in the current year is declining. Stewardship designated for the current year totaled $524,307 in 2017 versus $538,836 in The chart below reflects the number of stewards and tiered giving for the first quarter ending 3/31/2018 (in blue) as compared to the prior year. Church Offerings Church offerings include trays, candles, special, Easter and Christmas donations which totaled $724,213 during Of the $724,213, SSPP received a one-time special donation in the amount of $600,000 during the latter part of 2017.
7 Educational Income The Preschool and Greek Schools have seen an increase in enrollment which has bolstered educational income to $224,244 in 2017 from $198,409 in Other Income Within Other Income we have several line items including Youth Ministries, Sacrament, Bookstore and annual fundraising events such as Festival Income and the Golf Outing. The change in the fair market value (FMV) of securities in our endowment funds falls under this bucket and boosts our Net Assets when the market is doing well. Total Assets Assets are reported in three classes: unrestricted, temporarily restricted and permanently restricted net assets. For the year ending 12/31/2016, the church had $3,054,204 of unrestricted net assets, $324,448 of temporarily restricted net assets and $1,000,000 of permanently restricted net assets. The net excess of the $1,000,000 permanently restricted asset is used for capital and maintenance projects. For the fiscal year ending 12/31/2017, total assets increased by $819,739 to $5,198,391 mainly due to the newly endowed fund of $600,000 (as mentioned earlier under special donations). The new fund will be designated for a specific purpose toward Youth Ministries. Total Liabilities The church has no outstanding debt as the mortgage was paid in full during 2016.

Also, a big thank you to all the volunteers who made the yummy baked goods for our Palm Sunday Bake Sale. A special thank you to Eleni Soukoulis for many tireless days of leading the tsoureki preparation and to our chairpersons, Niki Tsitsis and Nancy Poulos. And a BIG shout out to our spring cleaners; Tiana Cocallas, Pat Nassos and Maria Brown! Upcoming Events May 20 th is Graduation Sunday. Philoptochos will be presenting 5 scholarships to eligible students. We are starting to prepare for Greek Fest which will be on Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22. It will be outside again and even bigger than last year! We will be baking a lot of pastry for the event and would appreciate any help in baking and packaging. Watch for s and Church bulletins for baking dates. We also need a lot of volunteers for the event since we have pastry booths both indoors and outdoors.
