The word comes from the Latin lamentari weeping, and wailing. Please join us in the church as we gather to pray and provide space for feelings of anger and hurt for lives fractured by clerical sexual abuse and abuse of power. 4 Information on RCIA Sunday, September 16 th at at noon in the Kateri Room or Wednesday, September 26 st at 6 PM in the Church Have you ever wondered Am I called be a? What does the community at St. Leo believe? What does it mean to be baptized, confirmed or receive First Eucharist as an adult? Are you baptized, but want to know more about Eucharist and Confirmation? This night is for you if you have felt even a whispered invitation to deepen your relationship with God and deepen your commitment to St. Leo Parish and the faith. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which adults enter more fully into the Church through the sacraments. This session will explain the process and answer questions so that you can decide whether or not this journey is for you. Come and see! 5 ICE CREAM SOCIAL Middle school and high school youth and their parents are invited to an ice cream social in the rectory garden immediately following the 10:30am Mass on Sunday, September 16 th. There will be a Liturgy of Lament for Lives Fractured by Clerical Sexual Abuse on Wednesday, September 12 th, at 7 p.m. in the church. More information can be found elsewhere in the bulletin. Ministry Fair is scheduled for the weekend of September This is your chance to learn about the various ministries here at St. Leo and to sign up. Our Liturgical Ministers Retreat/Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, September 29 th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church. If you serve in any capacity at St. Leo (acolyte, arts and environment, bread baker, church decorator, Eucharistic minister, hospitality minister (usher), lay presider, lector, liturgical dancer, musician, ritual assistant (candle-bearer, cross-bearer, etc.), sacristan, or in any other ministry, this event is mandatory for annual training in your ministry. Please RSVP me at amdefoe@stleoparish.org. If you do not presently serve, but are interested in one or more of these ministries, this event is for you! We will use this time for prayer, reflection, team-building, and training in the individual ministries, and will break for lunch. Our new pastor, Father Matt Holland, is the keynote speaker. Lunch will be provided. Thursday, October 4 th at 4 p.m. we will celebrate the Feast of Saint Francis with a Blessing of the Animals. Bring your pets for this special liturgy! On Saturday, October 6 th, our music ministers will gather for a retreat of prayer, discussion, and musicmaking, at the home of Donna Knudson from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. As always, I thank each and every one of you for sharing your gifts to prepare our hearts each week to receive God s word. St. Thomas - Medina Many of us have been through dark times, or watched others suffer. We don t always know how or when that darkness might lead to suicide. As a society, we re becoming more aware of mental health, mental illness, and suicide, through the news, social media, exposing these issues and allowing us the opportunity to respond and help. What does real help look like? It can feel awkward or scary when we don t know what to do. This training will give practical, simple steps that genuinely help. Facilitated by Renee Cox, this workshop will focus on: warning signs and symptoms of suicidal thinking and actions; suicide prevention; risk groups for suicide and suicidal behaviors; and intervention: -- how to talk to the person that you suspect is feeling this way; -- how to most appropriately respond and intervene; -- appropriate treatments.
