One way for young people in the Parish, in school, or home school to do this is through altar serving. This is a great privilege, and calls for a serious commitment. If you are interested in serving our Lord in this way and have received your first Confession and Holy Communion, and are in the 4th grade (or higher) this school year, please contact Deacon Smisek or Mrs. Chapdelaine in the Parish Office. Servers are welcome to continue serving through high school, as long as they are faithfully going to Mass on Sundays and Holy Days. We urge you to prayerfully consider this. The day begins with Mass at 8:00 am, followed by continental breakfast, presentations throughout the day, and lunch. The retreat concludes at 2:00 pm. A UGUSTINE CHOIR Choir practice at St. Augustine will begin Wed., Sept. 5th at 6:30 pm in the choir loft. 15TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST - TRIDENTINE SAFE PLACE FOR NEWBORNS In Minnesota, a mother, or someone acting with her permission, can safely surrender her unharmed infant born within the past seven days to a designated safe place. A safe place includes a hospital, an urgent care facility during its hours of operation, or an ambulance that is dispatched in response to a 911 call. Personnel at the safe place must not try to determine the identity of the mother, or the person leaving the baby, or call the police. Safe Place for Newborns is a safe and anonymous choice. No shame - No blame - No names 3

4 REFLECTIONS LABOR DAYS AT HOLY TRINITY The observance of Labor Day began over 100 years ago, in the later part of the nineteenth century. It was conceived by labor unions in the United States and eventually became established as a national holiday in 1894, though not without some bitter battles and a bit of politics. Labor conditions were extremely poor for many workers in the States in the mid-nineteenth century; the Industrial Revolution had brought about the mass formation of factories, which required the employment of many workers. Factories employ women and children, often in harsh conditions. Most workers were required to be on the job for twelve hours per day, six days out of the week, doing work which was intense. Certainly the standards have vastly improved in more recent decades and the standards for workers in the United States have now significantly improved. I would like to take this occasion of Labor Day weekend to thank our many parishioners who labor on behalf of our Parish community and to urge others to join us in the work fields. The fact is that the Church has always depended upon the voluntary labor of its own members, clergy and laity, to accomplish its manifold mission. Every week there are an incredible number of hours of volunteer time given to the Parish by the faithful. Here is but a sampling: funeral luncheons, carpenters, gardeners, church and chapel cleaners, money counters, cantors, choirs, ushers, readers and servers and extraordinary ministers, council and committee members, fundraising organizers and volunteers, coffee and donut workers, coaches, youth group leaders and playground monitors, organizational leaders and workers. The list goes on and is long but you get the idea. Then there are the special Parish events and fundraisers that bring our community closer together and also make it possible for us to maintain our church and school operations. Another major Parish event that requires many more laborers in the field is the Fall Festival. Last year the Festival brought in a record $92,000 for the Parish, which is equivalent to several weeks of weekend collections. Given that we just barely made budget this past year with only a fistful of dollars to spare, without the Festival and other income we would spiral into deficit spending and deeper debt. But success like this happens when Parish laborers willingly share in the work so that we can all enjoy a bountiful harvest. Already the Festival planning committee has been working for weeks to organize and prepare for the popular event but we will need many laborers for Festival weekend itself, which spans Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, October We are not expecting all volunteers to work the entire weekend though we would never turn you down but to assist with at least one day/evening or event or area of need. There will be opportunities to sign up as a Festival volunteer after weekend Masses at both Churches in the upcoming weeks. Working the Festival is a great way to get to know other parishioners even better and to do something truly satisfying. Remember, we pay top dollar for your labor: Heavenly Wages! And you can already start to make the Festival a success by picking up your Big Raffle tickets after any weekend Mass and purchasing a 50/50 ticket. Happy Labor Day! The Parish Office will be closed on Labor Day, Mon., Sept. 3rd. Have a safe holiday! HOLY TRINITY SCHOOL NOTES Dear Friends, Tuesday marks the first day of school for the school year. We are excited to embark on our school year. This year's theme is "Cultivating the Seeds of Faith" and we are looking forward to a year filled with helping our students grow in spirit, faith, and knowledge! We are also looking forward to leading and inspiring our students to be their best selves through the Positivity Project, a new program where our students are nurtured to grow in virtue and develop their character strengths. The upcoming school year will be filled with many new programs and activities, but we are also looking forward to experiencing the wonderful programs and traditions that make our school a phenomenal place to learn and grow. I look forward to sharing our adventures with you this year! God Bless you and your family! Mrs. Kincs, Principal RELIGIOUS EDUCATION We welcome registrations for our Religious Education School year. Classes are available for students in grades 1 - Confirmation to educate them in our Catholic Faith as well as prepare them for the sacraments of First Confession, Holy Communion and Confirmation. Our faith-filled catechists work each week to help students learn and understand the teachings of Christ and to enliven the Faith and Tradition of our Catholic Church. Classes begin on September 12th and meet each Wednesday from 6:30-7:45 pm in the Parish School. If you would like to register, you may print a form from the Parish website, (click on Groups), pick up a registration form in the back of the Church, at the Parish Office, or contact the Religious Education Office at reled@holytrinityssp.org, We look forward to passing on the richness of our Catholic Faith to the children of our Parish! ADULT FAITH FORMATION CLASSES Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Or are you just curious about what the Catholic Church teaches? Perhaps you have been a life-long Catholic, but would like to learn how to navigate that imposing 800+ page book known as The Catechism of the Catholic Church. The classes will follow the Holy Trinity Religious Education schedule. They will begin Wed., Sept. 12 at 6:30 pm in the basement of Holy Trinity School concluding at 7:45 pm. Purchase your 50/50 ticket(s) early as only 200 will be sold. We will be selling them every weekend until they are gone. DEFENDING THE FAITH In this five-week series, Defending the Faith, Father John Echert will walk us through applying apologetics to several areas of the Catholic faith. Participants will come to a deeper understanding of what we believe as Catholics and should gain confidence in making a solid defense of the Catholic faith. Classes are on Wednesdays, Sept Oct. 17 from 7:00 8:30 pm at St. Helena in Minneapolis. The cost is $20 and includes lecture, materials, large group Q&A and snack. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS ANNUAL HARVEST DAY MASS The SSP/IGH Knights of Columbus will sponsor its annual Harvest Day Mass on Mon., Sept. 3rd at the Church of St. Augustine. Holy Trinity Choir - This Choir sings on Sundays at the Mass and on Holy Days. The first rehearsal will be Tues., Sept. 11th at 7:00 pm in the choir loft and the first Choral Sunday will be Sept. 16th. We welcome all new and returning members. It's a wonderful way to serve our Lord and His Church. Funeral Choir - This Choral Group sings for Funerals at Holy Trinity. If interested, please call the Music Director to have your name added to the Funeral Choir. Cantors - Cantoring at Holy Trinity is an auditioned position. This volunteer work is a great way to serve the Parish. If interested to audition, please contact the Music Director. Junior High Chamber Choir - This Choir is for students in grades 6-8. This group will rehearse on Tuesdays from 2:35 3:15 pm in the school music room. The first rehearsal will be on Tues., Sept. 11th. They will sing at the 11:30 am Sunday Mass once a month with the Children's Choir and once a month at the Wednesday School Mass as a solo group. This Choir is open to students from Holy Trinity School, Home Schooling students and students attending another school but who attend Holy Trinity Church. Children's Choir - This Choir is for students in grades 2-5 who attend Holy Trinity School or Home Schooling students who attend Holy Trinity Church. This group will rehearse on Wednesdays from 2:20-3:05 pm in the school music room. The first rehearsal will be Wed., Sept. 12th. This Choir will also sing once a month at the 11:30 am Sunday Mass and once a month at the Wednesday School Mass. Students in grades 9-12 and older are invited to join the Holy Trinity Choir. Information packets for both Youth Choirs will be available in the School Office the first week of school.
