ST. JOHN DAY CAMP (Vacation Bible School) July The dates for Day Camp (equivalent of vacation bible school) this year are July and the theme will be the Prophet Daniel. This will include stories about the lion's den, the three youths in the fire and the handwriting on the wall. To register, contact Andrea Stiehr at andreastiehr@hotmail.com. The cost for camp for each child is: 1. One batch of cookies and one jug of juice to share 2. Sack lunch every day 3. Toilet paper for the TP Olympics 4. JOHN TEEN CAMP AUGUST 13-16, 2015 Saint John Teen Camp is a great way for our teens to integrate their faith into their lives and deepen their connections to our Church! This year Archdiocese Youth Director Fr. Joseph Purpura will teach Christian Ed. Once again camp will be at North Star Bible Camp in Willow, with many fun games & activities! In the Orthodox Church, reception of the Holy Eucharist is reserved for baptized, chrismated Orthodox Christians who have prepared by prayer, fasting and a recent confession. If you are visiting from a non- Orthodox church or otherwise are not prepared to commune today, you are welcome to receive some of the unconsecrated, blessed bread which the acolytes are holding. We pray for all to be united in the Body and Blood of Christ! If you would like to learn how you can enter into communion with the Orthodox Church, please speak with our clergy.

2 THE EPISTLE V (For Sixth Sunday after Pentecost) Thou, O Lord, wilt preserve us and keep us from this generation. Save me, O Lord, for the Godly man hath disappeared. The Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Romans. (12:6-14) Brethren, having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; he who teaches, in his teaching; he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who contributes, in liberality; he who gives aid, with zeal; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, and serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. THE GOSPEL (For Sixth Sunday of Matthew) The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (9:1-8) At that time, Jesus got into a boat, crossed over and came to His own city. And behold, they brought to Him a paralytic, lying on his bed; and when Jesus saw their faith He said to the paralytic, Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven. And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, This man is blaspheming. But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, Your sins are forgiven, or to say, Rise and walk? But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins He then said to the paralytic Rise, take up your bed and go home. And he rose and went home. When the crowds saw it, they marveled, and they glorified God, Who had given such authority to men. 3 Saint Herman s Family Night Registration Form for St. Herman s Christian Education Classes Dear beloved in Christ, God bless you. Once again we have decided to offer Christian Education for all ages on TUESDAYS from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Daily Vespers will be served Tuesday evening instead of Wednesday. We feel this will free up Sundays for all to worship and fellowship and provide an opportunity for all ages to gather together and learn more about the Orthodox Faith during the week. Schedule for the night: 5:30 6:00 Supper ($3 per person or $12 per family) 6:00 7:00 Adult Catechism (open to all adults members, catechumens, and inquirers) 6:00 7:30 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) Levels 1 & 2; Youth Group (Ages 10-19) 7:00 7:30 Daily Vespers (CGS will continue during this time) Dinner: Everyone who eats dinner will be required to clean up, unless they are scheduled to teach a class. Fee: A $50 registration fee per child for CGS Levels 1 & 2 helps offset costs for supplies and Bibles for the year. Make checks payable to St. Herman s Orthodox Church and please put Christian Ed in the memo for kids (for CGS levels 1 & 2 only). Money for youth group activities will be paid at each event. 5 Saint John Orthodox Cathedral July 22nd-24th, am-2pm Come and join us here at St. John Cathedral for three days of fun, songs, crafts and games as we learn about the faithful Prophet Daniel and the three holy youths Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who were saved from the fiery furnace. Camp is open to all - Kindergarten through 6th grade, and friends, cousins, and neighbors are welcome too. Please let us know in advance if you will attend so that we can be prepared with enough crafts and supplies for everyone. 6 Saint John Orthodox Cathedral Old Testament Day Camp Friday July 25th, pm - Sat. 9:30am Camp-out may be the favorite event the week, and is a fantastic way to finish our summer program. All who attended the morning sessions are welcome to come with their gear to the cathedral lawn, and spend the night. Beginning at 7pm we will have organized activities including relay races, and capture the flag. We will have some light snacks, but please eat dinner before arriving, and for animal safety we do not allow snacks in the tents. After an evening of fun, all campers will be sent to their tents at 11pm, and will be expected to immediately fall asleep without any complaining or silliness. Parents are encouraged to accompany any campers who need it, and please send only those who can make it through the night without distress. To camp-out you will need: your own tent (set up after 4pm in the designated area) sleeping bag & pillow extra change of clothes In the morning we will conclude our camp with a delicious pancake breakfast. Please pick up your camper by 9:30am Saturday.
