COFFEE HOUR REMINDER Everyone is asked to bring food to share each week. Our coffee hour teams are assigned to set up and clean up. July Fr. Matthew will be in Boston at the Archdiocese Convention. ST. JOHN DAY CAMP (Vacation Bible School) July The dates for Day Camp (equivalent of vacation bible school) this year are July and the theme will be the Prophet Daniel. This will include stories about the lion's den, the three youths in the fire and the handwriting on the wall. To register, contact Andrea Stiehr at andreastiehr@hotmail.com. The cost for camp for each child is: 1. One batch of cookies and one jug of juice to share 2. Sack lunch every day 3. Toilet paper for the TP Olympics 4. Signed permission slip and medical release form ST. JOHN TEEN CAMP AUGUST 13-16, 2015 Saint John Teen Camp is a great way for our teens to integrate their faith into their lives and deepen their connections to our Church! This year Archdiocese Youth Director Fr. Joseph Purpura will teach Christian Ed. Teens will be invited to participate in numerous liturgical services through singing, reading the epistles and psalms. In the Orthodox Church, reception of the Holy Eucharist is reserved for baptized, chrismated Orthodox Christians who have prepared by prayer, fasting and a recent confession. If you are visiting from a non- Orthodox church or otherwise are not prepared to commune today, you are welcome to receive some of the unconsecrated, blessed bread which the acolytes are holding. We pray for all to be united in the Body and Blood of Christ! If you would like to learn how you can enter into communion with the Orthodox Church, please speak with our clergy.

2 THE EPISTLE V (For St. Athanasius) The saints shall boast in glory, and they shall rejoice upon their beds. Sing unto the Lord a new song; His praise is in the church of the saints. The Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Galatians. (5:22-6:2) Brethren, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us have no self-conceit, no provocation of one another, no envy of one another. Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Look to yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. THE GOSPEL (For the Fifth Sunday of Matthew) The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (8:28-9:1) At that time, when Jesus came to the country of the Gergesenes, two demoniacs met Him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. And behold, they cried out, What have we to do to Thee, O Son of God? Art Thou come here to torment us before the time? Now a herd of many swine was feeding at some distance from them. And the demons begged Him, If Thou castest us out, send us away into the herd of swine. And He said to them, Go. So they came out and went into the swine; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and perished in the waters. The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, and what had happened to the demoniacs. And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw Him, they begged Him to leave their neighborhood. And getting into a boat He crossed over and came to His own city. How should we live according to God? The elder replied to them: Go and keep the commandments of God and preserve the tradition of the Fathers. 3 Saint John Orthodox Cathedral July 22nd-24th, am-2pm Come and join us here at St. John Cathedral for three days of fun, songs, crafts and games as we learn about the faithful Prophet Daniel and the three holy youths Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who were saved from the fiery furnace. Camp is open to all - Kindergarten through 6th grade, and friends, cousins, and neighbors are welcome too. Please let us know in advance if you will attend so that we can be prepared with enough crafts and supplies for everyone. 4 Saint John Orthodox Cathedral Old Testament Day Camp Friday July 25th, pm - Sat. 9:30am Camp-out may be the favorite event the week, and is a fantastic way to finish our summer program. All who attended the morning sessions are welcome to come with their gear to the cathedral lawn, and spend the night. Beginning at 7pm we will have organized activities including relay races, and capture the flag. We will have some light snacks, but please eat dinner before arriving, and for animal safety we do not allow snacks in the tents. After an evening of fun, all campers will be sent to their tents at 11pm, and will be expected to immediately fall asleep without any complaining or silliness. Parents are encouraged to accompany any campers who need it, and please send only those who can make it through the night without distress. To camp-out you will need: your own tent (set up after 4pm in the designated area) sleeping bag & pillow extra change of clothes In the morning we will conclude our camp with a delicious pancake breakfast. Please pick up your camper by 9:30am Saturday.
