NECESSARY PLEASE HAVE AN I.D. AT LEAST 20 DONORS, PLEASE... In his Exhortation Gaudete et Exultate Rejoice and be Glad, Pope Francis encourages us to practice daily Examination of Conscience. What is that? Daily examination of conscience or the examen is different from what we do before we celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Penance. In the daily examination, we start with a prayer to the Holy Spirit. We ask that we can hear God speaking to us and we can see our day in a clear light. The daily examination of conscience is a crucial spiritual exercise. It is like doing an evaluation. In the presence of Christ with the help of the Spirit, we look at our day. We allow things to come up. We thank God for the times that we were able to be Christ to others. When our wrong actions during the day emerge, we seek God's forgiveness. It is good to keep track of our sins especially if they are repetitive. We get rid of them through a change of life style, practicing the virtues and doing penance. Through the examination of conscience, we distinguish between whether we are living a life of a son/daughter of God the Father (total dependence on God and our interdependence on God s creatures) or are we living a life of child of darkness (our independence that is being on our own). Our dependence on God and our interdependence on his creatures reflect the great commandment of loving God and our neighbor. Through a daily examen, we see our path. It is not straight but it is one that brings us closer to God. We can see that we fall, but more importantly that we rise with Christ and are able to reflect the love of God to others and being who God wants us to be. It is not easy to keep up with a daily examination of conscience. Once you try it and practice it, you will find how it helps you in your spiritual path. Human Outreach would like to help the Catholic Charities/Daybreak Center in Will County s Back to School Fair on Thursday, August 2 nd A one stop shopping event of health & human services for low-income families living in Will County with children ages newborn to 18 years. At these fun events, students from low-income households access free school supplies, health services (check-ups and immunizations) and other resources to help get the school year started on the right foot! This year, we are asking each Parish to please request your parishioners to donate plain color backpacks (suitable for K-12th graders and interchangeable for boys or girls) Notebooks, 2 Pocket Folders, Filler Paper, Pencils or to make monetary donations to assist us in purchasing specific and identical school supplies to place in all of the backpacks. The monetary donations can be in the form of cash or checks made payable to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet. On the memo section of your check, please be sure to write BTSF Will County. We can also take your credit card donation over the phone at or online at catholiccharitiesjoliet.org. No donation is too big or too small. We will be collecting these donations on July 21 st & 22 h.
