If all goes well and weather permits, we will have his celebration that weekend sponsored by the CCW. More information to come. Thank you for supporting the new Gather Hymnals. We will begin using the new hymnals the first weekend of Advent. Envelopes are still available if you would like to dedicate a book plate. SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Monday: Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time Friday: St. Andrew Thursday: Bl. Frederick of Regensburg Saturday: Blessed Virgin Mary; First Saturday Advent has a twofold character: as a season to prepare for Christmas when Christ's first coming to us is remembered; and also as a season when that remembrance directs the mind and heart to await Christ's second coming at the end of time. Advent is thus a period for devout and joyful expectation. Advent begins with the first weekend after Christ the King and ends on the evening prior to Christmas. The weekdays from December 17th to December 24th inclusive serve to prepare more directly for the Lord's Birth. During Advent, we prepare the way for the coming of the Lord in our own lives now and in His fullness at the end of time. Traditional Advent practices, such as using an Advent wreath, counting down to Christmas with an Advent calendar, and making a Jesse Tree are ways to help us prepare for Christ s coming. During this season of expectation, I encourage you to pray as a family either daily, or a few times during the week. Do a service project as a family as a symbol of a gift you wish to offer to the child Jesus. Prepare yourself to receive the child Jesus in your hearts by receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation by attending the Penance Service on Friday, December 21st in our parish at 7 pm. We also have confession on Saturday 4:00 pm -4:45 pm and Sunday 9:30 am-10:20 am and also on First Friday of the month after the 8:00 am Mass. Another way to prepare for Christ s coming is to read, reflect and pray the Gospel readings for the Sundays of Advent. Make use of the resources found in Formed.org. Remember to use the parish code NDQPGV. This year the Fourth Sunday of Advent is December 23th. We would appreciate some help to decorate the church after the 10:30 am Mass on December 23rd. Christmas Masses are at 3 PM, 4:30 pm and 10:30 pm on Monday the 24th and 8:30 am and 10:30 am on December 25th. I look forward to seeing you at the Masses. Like the early Christians, let s together say Maranatha. Come Lord Jesus! Blessed Advent Fr. 4 PAGE FOUR AN AUGUSTINIAN PARISH NOVEMBER 25, 2018 CHRIST IS KING On the final Sunday of the liturgical year we celebrate the feast of Christ the King. It's easy to understand today's scriptures as events that happened long ago and far away, or predictions that will come true somewhere, some day. But they invite us to claim Christ as our King here and now. Jesus' words to Pilate in the Gospel remind us that his kingdom transcends time and place. And the prophecies from Daniel and Revelation give us reason to be faithful to Christ our King right here and right now. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only King over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation. No matter what nation we belong to or what language we speak, he "has made us into a kingdom" (Revelation 1:6)--one people united in love and peace for all eternity. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. Latest Worship Commission Highlights: Your Worship Commission met earlier this month and this is what they are working on... Looking into new banners and candles for the coming holiday seasons. Discussed the new Christmas Mass schedule. Hoping to help Parish council gather info for the coming church anniversary celebration. *The parish will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in Oplatki Wafers will be available again this year in the Narthex next weekend. Advent Wreath Blessing at home All make the sign of the cross as the leader says: Our help is in the name of the Lord. Response (R/.) Who made heaven and earth. Then the Scripture, Isaiah 9: (lines 1-2 and 5-6) or Isaiah 63 (lines & 19) or Isaiah 64 (lines 2-7) is read: Reader: The Word of the Lord. R/. Thanks be to God. With hands joined, the leader says: Lord our God, we praise you for your Son, Jesus Christ: he is Emmanuel, the hope of the peoples, he is the wisdom that teaches and guides us, he is the Savior of every nation. Lord God, let your blessing come upon us as we light the candles of this wreath. May the wreath and its light be a sign of Christ s promise to bring us salvation. May he come quickly and not delay. We ask this through Christ our Lord. R/. Amen. The blessing may conclude with a verse from O Come, O Come, Emmanuel : O come, desire of nations, bind in one the hearts of humankind; bid ev ry sad division cease and be thyself our Prince of peace. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel. From Catholic Household Blessings & Prayers Next Sunday is the CCW Santa s Breakfast from 9 until Noon at the Homer Junior High. Winners of the raffle baskets will be chosen during the breakfast. There is still time to get tickets for both. The world is a great book, of which they that never stir from home read only a page. St. Augustine of Hippo PLEASE NOTE: This Year the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (Holy Day of Obligation) Falls on Saturday, December 8th. To fulfill this obligation there will be a Vigil Mass at 7 pm on Friday, December 7th or you may attend the Saturday morning 8 am Mass. The weekend Masses do not fulfill the obligation of the Holy Day.
