It s one of those prayers most of us find easy to recite from memory while we re in the midst of the congregation but a little more difficult to recite when we re alone. In a congregation we can lean on the memory of the presider or the person beside us, and there is confidence and courage in being one of many. It s a different story when we stand by ourselves and begin to think more intently about the words we re reciting. What does that mean? Do I really believe that? What is it we each believe? What lies at the core of my faith? Maybe more important, what creed do I live? What creed do you infer from my actions, words, and deeds? If I believe God created the heavens and the earth and all life, and yet I fail to care for the environment, the unborn, or the oppressed, then I am abusing the offspring of God. If I believe Christ will judge the living and the dead, and yet I spend my days judging the faults of others, then I have surely usurped the throne of my King. If I believe in the Incarnation and the resurrection of the body, and yet I fail to care for this earthly tabernacle or proclaim flesh is sinful, then I will surely be disappointed on that last day. If I believe we are all sisters and brothers in Christ, and yet I fail to share my time, talent, and treasure, then I surely deny that Christ is my brother. I know you know what we believe... But what do you believe? Ponder and Pray Do I live as a partner of God s covenant, following the commandments? Where am I looking for God this Lent? Lord, you instill within me your power and wisdom. Sr. Myrna s Manna has been preparing and delivering lunches to the New Hope Resource Center since November, serving, on average 70 homeless men and women every Wednesday. We are now looking for volunteers for our Spring/Summer season, which extends from April through October. Volunteers will join a team of seven parishioners, assigned to a specific Wednesday of each month to provide one part of the meal and/or assemble the lunches. Team leaders are also needed. Assigned to one Wednesday a month, you are responsible for calling team members and leading the organization of each lunch. Gather your friends or your family members and form your own team a great service project for kids of almost any age! If you cannot commit to a team but are willing to donate items for lunches, we want to hear from you. Crochet or knit lap blankets or scarves with our Prayer Shawl Ministry, or make baby hats and blankets with our Layette Ministry. Reflection for the Third Week of Lent: Hungering for a Season of Hope Each week during Lent we ll include one trivia question from CRS Catholicism and the World Quiz, found at Question 1: out of every children in developing countries cannot grow to their fullest potential physically and intellectually because they do not have enough nutritious food to eat. Youth ministry Junior and senior high youth ministry Quest has been busy! Good job servers who helped with our For Love and For Life dinner. The evening was quite entertaining thanks to Tom and Susie from Our Lady of Lourdes. The food was delicious and well served by Kaela, Colleen, John, Gabby, Adriel, Allison, Emilio, Olivia, Luci, and Savannah. And thanks to all who came to the after party at Elements to celebrate Carmen s birthday! Over the President s Day holiday weekend, nine of us took a Quest adventure to Port Townsend, Fort Worden, and Fort Flagler. We covered almost 9 miles that day, including our night hike without flashlights. The blanket of stars above our heads provided our light. We had our breakfast on the beach in Nordlund and celebrated Mass with views of Indian Island, and a peek at two of our favorite mountain tops. The weather was wonderful! Thanks Tulili, Colleen, MaryAnn, Savannah, John, Joe, and Michael for coming and helping with all the tasks! On Ash Wednesday, we had eight of our young people distributing ashes at the 7 pm Mass. Thanks John, Tulili, Kaela, Tom, Patrick, Alyssa, and Savannah! Base Camp and Quest: on Wednesday, March 11 th come to youth group in your work out clothes and shoes. We have a guest presenter to lead us through Stations of the Cross-fit! Our service day will be March 18 th. On March 25 th we will take a walk through Holy Week. 4 Grief Support Ministry The All Saints faith community extends its continued prayers and support to those who have experienced a loss, or know someone who has. Please join us on Monday afternoons for a six week class filled with encouragement and support to all who are working through the grief process. We know the coming days and months may be painful for you. Let us walk with you on this journey. You may have been walking this for quite some time or for just a few weeks, whatever, you need not walk alone. Following are some of the topics that will be discussed: What is Normal When Grieving? Applying John Paul II s reflections on the human body like a kind of leaven, we will explore various themes relevant to daily life, as a single or married man. Safeguard Your Heart Reflection Questions for a Simple Examination of Conscience from Pope Francis These reflection questions are an excerpt from a booklet by Pope Francis, titled Safeguard Your Heart. They were distributed during his Angelus address on the first Sunday of Lent, February 22 nd, where he encouraged Catholics to use them as a help for spiritual conversion and growth that always starts from the heart: the place where much of daily choices between good and evil [are] played out, between worldliness and the Gospel, between indifference and sharing. Humanity is in need of justice, of peace, of love and will have it only by returning with their whole heart to God, who is the source of it all. Do I only turn to God when I'm in need? Do I take attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation? Do I begin and end the day with prayer? Am I embarrassed to show that I am a Christian? Do I rebel against God's plan? Am I envious, hot-tempered, biased? Am I honest and fair with everyone or do I fuel the "throwaway culture?" In my marital and family relations, do I uphold morality as taught in the Gospels? Do I honor and respect my parents? Have I refused newly conceived life? Have I snuffed out the gift of life? Have I helped do so? Do I respect the environment? Am I part worldly and part believer? Do I overdo it with eating, drinking, smoking and amusements? Am I overly concerned about my physical well-being, my possessions? How do I use my time? Am I lazy? Do I want to be served?
