People from Manhattan to Maryland received the brunt of the storm's wrath, leaving many homeless, and without the barest of necessities. The words "I lost everything" can be heard over and over again. One in five Americans was impacted by the damaging force of Sandy it could have happened to you. You can help people affected by disasters like Superstorm Sandy by making a financial gift to support IOCC's US Emergency Response Fund. Our life-saving work depends on the support of people like you. The power of your donation is far reaching helping save lives, alleviate suffering and sharing God's love. Please help our neighbors in need, both near and far today! There are so many families struggling in the cold and dark. Show how much you care by making a gift now! Your brother in Christ, Constantine M. Triantafilou Executive Director and CEO International Orthodox Christian Charities

Fr. George P. Vlahos St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church 2150 West Front Street, Burlington, NC HIS EMINENCE METROPOLITAN ALEXIOS' THANKSGIVING MESSAGE Thanksgiving 2012 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. I Thessalonians 5:18 My beloved ones, this Thanksgiving, I am in Jerusalem and Bethlehem with a group of pilgrims, where we give thanks to God and pray for all of you, that He will grant His mercy to all of us and bring peace to our world. In this spirit, and with grateful joy, I join you as you gather with friends and family to celebrate Thanksgiving. This is a wonderful opportunity to take time from our busy lives to be grateful, to offer thanks to Almighty God for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us. Especially in the Holy Land, we pray for the people of this place, that they turn to God for the solutions to the strife and misunderstandings. My beloved ones, Thanksgiving is a profoundly Christian holiday because it reminds us that God is the true source of all our blessings. Indeed, we have so much to be grateful for, that we should be particularly fervent in thanking God. It is God who gives us the most important gift of all, the gift of life, as we live our lives in gratitude for all His bountiful blessings. Especially at Thanksgiving, while we enjoy all the blessings that we have received, we should not forget those who are in need, the sick, those who are in pain or suffering from mental illness, the lonely, the bereaved and the homeless. As we celebrate our gratitude to God this year, let us strive to recognize Christ in each other and especially those who are in need. Let us love and serve one another as we would love and serve the Lord Himself, and let His spirit illuminated all that we do. As we give thanks to God, I pray that His goodness fill our lives with abundant love and grace. On this Day of Thanksgiving, may you be surrounded by the love and joy of friends and family, and let us prepare ourselves to receive the greatest gift, the Birth of Love, our Incarnate Lord. Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving filled with God s blessings, I remain Paternally yours, +ALEXIOS Metropolitan of Atlanta

7 HIS EMINENCE METROPOLITAN ALEXIOS MESSAGE ON HURRICANE SANDY Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior Isaiah 43:1-3 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I greet you in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying that our journey through the Nativity season will be a time of peace and blessings for our Metropolis of Atlanta family. It seems almost incredible that the Northeast, especially New Jersey and New York have been devastated by a massive hurricane, second in destruction only to Hurricane Katrina, which hit New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. At the time, we were appalled by the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, which was the costliest natural disaster, as well as one of the five deadliest hurricanes, in the history of the United States. Even in the midst of destruction, we saw God s Providence, and signs of hope. Who can forget the generous and swift response of our brothers and sisters in Christ? His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios has designated Sunday November 11, 2012 as a day of prayer and offering on behalf of the victims of Hurricane Sandy. All parishes are asked to designate a special collection for the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. These funds should be sent to the Archdiocese. Relief efforts will be coordinated through the National Philoptochos, the Metropolis of New Jersey, the Direct Archdiocesan District and other local, state and national efforts that provide direct assistance to those in need. I know that we were shocked and grieved by the catastrophe of Hurricane Sandy, yet now we have the opportunity to respond to those who helped us before. I know that I can count on you, the Clergy and Faithful of our Holy Metropolis of Atlanta and your generous and faithful response to those in need. Our brothers and sisters in the Northeast need our assistance and support, whether financial, material, emotional, or spiritual. The problems and difficulties of our suffering brothers and sisters are almost overwhelming, and we must pray that Almighty God will give us the wisdom, strength and resources to help them. As we look forward to the beginning of Advent and our preparations for the Holy Nativity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, let us resolve to Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. (Romans 12:10-13) I pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to open our hearts to receive His grace and love, and to guide us and enlighten us as we seek to serve our brothers and sisters in Christ. +ALEXIOS Metropolitan of Atlanta ST.
