1 February 1, 2015 Jazz Sunday with Communion and Annual Meeting of the Congregation Ringing of the Church Bell Praise Medley This Little Light of Mine; Victory Is Mine; As the Deer Panteth This little light of mine, I m gonna let it shine (3x) Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine! Everywhere I go,... Victory is mine, victory is mine; Victory today is mine. I told Satan to get thee behind, Victory today is mine. Joy is mine,... Happiness is mine,... As the deer panteth for the water, So my soul longeth after thee; You alone are my heart s desire, And I long to worship thee. You alone are my strength, my shield, To you alone may my spirit yield, You alone are my heart s desire, and I long to worship thee. You re my friend and you are my brother, Even though you are a king, I love you more than any other, So much more than anything. You alone are my strength, my shield,... Invocation Call to Worship Leader: People: Leader: People: I want you more than gold or silver, Only you can satisfy, You alone are the real joy-giver And the apple of my eye. You alone are my strength, my shield,... We ve come to worship God, who makes streams flow from rock, Who turns the parched earth into springs of water, who sends the rain from heaven and makes the wilderness blossom and flourish. As the deer thirsts for flowing streams, so we thirst for You, O God. Come, let s worship our life-giving God, who pours out living water on all who thirst.
2 *Opening Hymn Welcome Just a Closer Walk with Thee I am weak, but Thou art strong; Jesus, keep me from all wrong; I ll be satisfied as long as I walk, let me walk close to Thee. Just a closer walk with Thee; grant it, Jesus, is my plea, Daily walking close to Thee: let it be, dear Lord, let it be. Through this world of toil and snares, if I falter, Lord, who cares? Who with me my burden shares? None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee. Refrain. Call to Prayer When my feeble life is o er, time for me will be no more; Guide me gently, safely o er to thy shore, dear Lord, to thy shore. Refrain. As the Deer Panteth (instrumental) Pastoral Prayer & The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Cherub Choir Song He s Got the Whole World led by Marcia Louis Children s Sermon At this time, children may leave for Discovery Hour in the CE Building Following Discovery Hour, the children will be gathered in the Norfield Room until the Annual Meeting is adjourned *Hymn Scripture Reading This Little Light remix John 4: 1-10 (NRSV) 1 Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard, Jesus is making and baptizing more disciples than John 2 although it was not Jesus himself but his disciples who baptized 3 he left Judea and started back to Galilee. 4 But he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob s well was there, and Jesus, tired out by his journey, was sitting by the well. It was about noon. 7 A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, Give me a drink. 8 (His disciples had gone to the city to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria? (Jews do not share things in common with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, Give me a drink, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water. John 4:11-16 (NRSV) 11 The woman said to him, Sir, you have no bucket, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12 Are you greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us the well, and with his sons and his flocks drank from it? 13 Jesus said to her, Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life. 15 The woman said to him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water. 16 Jesus said to her, Go, call your husband, and come back.

Welcome Our Guest Speaker Rev. Geoffrey A. Black General Minister & President of the United Church of Christ The Rev. Geoffrey A. Black, General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ, will bless us by preaching at Norfield next Sunday, February 1. This Jazz Sunday Worship Service with Communion will feature music by Chris Coogan and his Jazz Combo. This promises to be a lively service and will be followed by our Annual Meeting. Rev. Geoffrey Black previously served as the New York Conference Minister and as a Minister for Church Life and Leadership with the then-office for Church Life and Leadership (currently Parish Life and Leadership), a national agency of the United Church of Christ housed at the UCC s national offices in Cleveland, Ohio. He served the local church for many years in addition to his Judicatory positions. Ecumenical commitment, concern for equal justice, African-American empowerment, and community improvement have shaped Rev. Black s ministry in the church and in the communities in which he has lived. We are so honored to have him visit our congregation and are looking forward to hearing him preach.
