Older children are welcome to join us as helpers. *Hymn No. 335 Though I May Speak O WALY WALY Scripture Readings John 3: 1-17 (NRSV) 1 Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. 2 He came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God. 3 Jesus answered him, Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above. 4 Nicodemus said to him, How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother s womb and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. 6 What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be astonished that I said to you, You must be born from above. 8 The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. 9 Nicodemus said to him, How can these things be? 10 Jesus answered him, Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things? 11 Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. 14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. 17 Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Isaiah 6: 1-8 (NRSV) 1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. 2 Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. 3 And one called to another and said: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory. 4 The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with smoke. 5 And I said: Woe is me! A Children s sermon is shared most Sundays and all children are invited to come to the front of the altar and join us. Norfield s Church School, called Discovery Hour, meets during the service. Children leave after the Children s Sermon, accompanied by their teachers. All children are welcome and encouraged to attend. Pre-registration is not necessary. Children can then be picked up following the service at the Christian Education Building. Please ask us for directions. Hearing Assistance System amplifiers are available. 6 Announcements Shawl Ministry Update We wish to increase the number of prayer shawls in our closet. There are shawls knitted with care by Jane Atkinson, Jane Gordon, Sandie Kinseley, Bobbie Sassano, Jackie Pike and Alexcia Patterson- Schroll (2 Prayer Shawls & 2 Baptismal Shawls) Can I interest other knitters? We have the yarn, the needles, the expertise. You have only to contact me after Sunday service in the Parish Hall or by phone (203) Music Program Thank You Notes Today is the last Sunday for our Rejoice Choir this season. We are grateful for their hard work learning one or two new songs every month since September. They have made a real contribution to our worship this past school year! Thank you to: R.J. Bos, Blake Braun, Chris Burns, Gavin Cuomo, Owen Cuomo, Lucy Fine, Jake Fine, Matthew Krauss, Casey Lerner, Luke Lerner, Kaeli Mecca, T.J. Mecca, Rajiv Rampaul. 7 Norfield Congregational Church Understanding Israel / Palestine and the UCC s Engagement A talk by Dr. Peter E. Makari, PhD National Executive for Middle East and Europe with the Common Global Ministries Board of the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Sunday, June 14th at 9am 64 Norfield Road, Weston, CT Contact Rev. Kelly Rogers to RSVP kellyhrogers@gmail.com Dr. Makari s visit will begin with a Norfield Soul Food Breakfast at 8:30 am, followed by a presentation by Dr. Makari from 9-9:45 am. Dr. Makari will then preach at Norfield s worship service, followed by a talk back in which Dr. Makari will respond to questions. Dr. Peter Makari earned a MA in Middle East Studies from the American University in Cairo and a PhD in Politics and Middle East Studies from New York University in Prior to that he worked for the Middle East Council of Churches based in Cyprus. Peter is Egyptian-American. Peter returned from a trip to the Middle East in December. He will bring us the latest news about the conflict in his region and the responses of our Global Mission Partners. Dr Makari, recently traveled to the Middle East with a high level delegation that included Norfield's Senior Minister, the Rev Dr. Bernard R. Wilson.
