Join us on Facebook at: BINGO TAKES A BREAK After ten consecutive years we are taking a vacation. Bingo will take a rest for two months. We will close for February and half of March. We plan to re-open that Wednesday after Saint Patrick s Day, April 6 th. Please convert your almsgiving for Lent into a gift card from the Acme or C-Town. These cards can be dropped off at the rectory or left at Mass with a parish representative (Priest, Usher, Lady of Charity). Thank you. Lenten Reminder Fridays are days of abstinence from meat. Every day is a fasting day, meaning only one full meal. The quantity of food should be limited at the other two meals. Easter Flowers: Easter Flowers have a beautiful place at the Altar during this sacred season. They also serve as a way to memorialize a loved one or stand vigil for a special intention. Anyone wishing to memorialize a loved one with flowers can use the Flower Envelope. An offering of $10.00 is appreciated. Envelopes can be found in the vestibule of the church today.

2 The January 21, 2016 issue of Catholic New York published the following story on Father Richard Gorman, who was here at St. Barnabas, as a deacon and as a priest, from We share the information with you in case you have not seen it, and urge you to contact the District Attorney or the Victims Assistance Coordinators should you have any information or concerns regarding Father Gorman. FROM CATHOLIC NEW YORK The Archdiocese of New York has received allegations of abuse of minors against Father Richard Gorman, the director of prison chaplains for the archdiocese. The alleged abuse would have occurred 30 years ago. As usual, the archdiocese immediately reported the allegations to law enforcement officials for investigation, who have deemed the allegations to be credible, although they have not yet been substantiated. In keeping with the policy and practice of the archdiocese, and in conformity with the promises the bishops of the United States made in the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, Father Gorman is not permitted to publicly function as a priest until the matter is resolved. The archdiocese will follow its policy for dealing with priests who have been accused of abuse, including having the entire matter reviewed by professionals and our lay review board. Thus it is that the Holy Father receives countless appeals for assistance from needy nations and people. With this in mind, I ask that you be as generous as you can in making a sacrificial offering to this year s Peter s Pence collection which will be taken up in our parishes next weekend. CYY Newspaper gave a very nice space last week to the Saint Barnabas Youth Festival Choir who sang at the Vatican during the Christmas period. The article featured an interview with Jennifer Anderson, one of the choristers and parishioner who also is one of our rectory office receptionists. Black History Month Our Deanery is celebrating Black History Month at Immaculate Conception Church 754 East Gun Hill Road with a Gospel Fest on Sunday, February 28 th at 3:00pm. All Saint Barnabas parishioners are encouraged to attend. The collection this month will be on the weekend of February 20 th and 21 st. Please drop off all donations at the High School cafeteria. The food will be collected after the 1:00pm Mass. Many thanks again for your generosity. Mea Culpa Everyone knows that the 3 rd spiritual work of mercy is admonish the sinner. We found a brain freeze in the parish Lenten Guide that says abolish the sinner. What Is Parish Pay? E-giving is short hand for electronic giving. It is a method of sending your weekly donation to the parish via electronics rather than the traditional weekly offertory envelope. (If you use E-Z Pass you know what it is). You can register online or the parish can give you a form to authorize the parish to withdraw donations directly from your bank account or credit card which in turn gets deposited directly into the church account. Advantages are many. Two easy ways to register 1. You simply go to and follow the prompts to register yourself 2. You can pick up a registration form at the rectory office and we can do it for you. THE POOR BOX is a silent way the parish begs for people in need. Your donation into the poor boxes located at the doors of the church and chapel are used for those who come to the parish in dire need. Some common requests are food, medicine, travel to find work, some sort of unexpected emergency in their lives which they cannot afford.

Gifts Of Bread and Wine All Daily Masses for the Month Boy Scouts Of America Sanctuary Lamb Anthony Milone Baptismal Instruction Classes Parents wishing to have their children baptized at Saint Barnabas must attend one of the classes that are held normally on the second and fourth Monday of each month prior to arranging the child s baptism. The classes are held in the Elementary School Library at 8:00pm. No registration necessary. The next class for February will be conducted: Monday, February 22 th Baptisms are conducted every Sunday at 1:00pm in the Main Church Respect Life Committee In the effort to protect the unborn and the born, please join us every second Saturday of the month in the Considine Center, Room 1-4. Your gifts of ideas, talents as well as some of your time are appreciated. The Spring of 40 Days For Life Campaign began on Ash Wednesday. If you are unable to participate in this campaign, please consider Nine Days for Life Novena. This involves prayer, whether a rosary or a prayer, combined with one act of sacrifice each day for nine days. To quote from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, We can continue to march in spirit with prayer for the charity and mercy needed to help those in need and with indecisiveness. To replace what Pope St. John Paul II called a culture of death ---what Pope Francis termed the throwaway culture --- with a culture of life. Upcoming Event: We are planning for a LIFE CHAIN on McLean Ave. Currently we are looking into obtaining a permit. We ask the parishioners of St. Barnabas to help us in this effort if only to spread the word to others outside our parish community. It will involve one hour of your time either in prayer or standing as a witness for Life. More information will follow. Players wore their uniforms and took roles in the Mass. Special thanks to John Martin who founded the BAC Communion Breakfast as well as Maureen Murray and Johnny McGuire who ran it this year. In his homily Msgr. Barry segued from St. Peter being a sportsman to the role that any Saint Barnabas sportsman has in Church life. Pilgrimage of NY 2016-Year of Mercy The top of Manhattan to the bottom of Manhattan! The walk will be the length of Manhattan, visiting churches in honor of the Year of Mercy! They will visit two churches named after two saints who are examples of God's Mercy: Saints Peter and Paul. Plus visiting two churches that have designated Holy Doors for this jubilee year: St Frances Xavier Cabrini Shrine and St Patrick's Cathedral. This walk is 13.5 total miles!
