All rising high school sophmores through seniors are invited to participate. LITTLE FLOWER AND FAITH LUTHERAN FILM DISCUSSION February 25 th at 2pm in the Upper Church. Join members of the Little Flower and Faith Lutheran communities for a viewing of An American Conscience: The Reinhold Niebuhr Story. Refreshments and discussion to follow the film. This week s altar bread and wine is donated in memory of Mary Penn and Thomas Mason by the Penn family. The Blessing of our First Communion Children occurs at all Masses this weekend. LITTLE FLOWER NEWS SHARING GOD S BLESSINGS ANNUAL APPEAL This year s Annual Appeal provides the poor with food, shelter and clothing; makes religious education, spiritual guidance and CYO programs available for the young; insures the future leadership of the Church with seminarian education and training; and, most importantly, brings Christ s Good News to the people of the Archdiocese. Our parish also benefits by receiving a rebate from the appeal if it exceeds its goal. It is important for all of us to participate. Parents of children ages 3-6 years old. Holy Week and Easter is quickly approaching, and we love involving the youngest ones among us in singing the music of the season. Cherub Choir practices will be held on Mondays from 4:30 5:00 p.m. in the Upper Church beginning Monday, March 5th. Practices will continue on the following Mondays: March 12 th, 19, and 26th. In addition to rehearsing music for Palm Sunday and Easter, rehearsals will include special surprises: videos, games, prizes, and a message from the Easter Bunny! The children will sing at 9:30 Mass on Palm Sunday, March 25th, and with our Junior, Youth, and High School Choirs on Easter Sunday morning, April 1 st at the 10:45 Mass. This Rice bowls are still available at the back of the church. Operation Rice Bowl is a way for your family to come together to help those in need during Lent. Rice Bowls should be returned at Mass on HOLY THURSDAY, 3/29 or anytime during Holy Week. Join us for four days of fun, high energy music, interactive Bible stories, hands on crafts and snacks. Open to ages 4 years thru 5th grade. $40 per child, maximum of $80 per family. PARISHIONERS IN HOSPITALS - If you or a loved one is hospitalized, we would love to offer you the Sacrament of the Sick, bring Communion or just pay you a visit. Please be sure to let the parish know. Due to privacy laws, hospitals are not allowed to inform us when a parishioner is hospitalized. The only way we know is through family and friends. Please encourage your loved ones to contact our Pastoral Associate, Margaret, at AROUND TOWN EYEGLASSES FOR THE NEEDY The Knights of Columbus, Summit Council (New Providence, Summit and Berkeley Heights) collects used eyeglasses. Donations may be dropped in the box at the Parish Center during business hours. SAGE Elder Care Activities-- SAGE Elder Care, located at 290 Broad St. in Summit, offers a variety of classes and activities including Tai Chi, Gentle Chair Yoga, Fun to be Fit classes, and Support Groups. St. Joseph s Soup Kitchen On Saturday March 10, we need your help cooking and serving for St. Joseph s SoupKitchen. You prepare the food at home - the recipes are easy. We bring the food to St. Joseph s in Elizabeth and serve it. If you don t want to cook, you could help with serving. If you would like to help, contact Susan Jankowski, susan@elite.com or or Nancy Powers, FROM THE ARCHDIOCESE LENTEN REGULATIONS-- The days of both Fast and Abstinence during Lent are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily His Resurrection. The other Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence. 1. On a day of Fast, only one (1) full meal is permitted and two (2) smaller meals, which, if added together, would not exceed the main meal in quantity. Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast. On a day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those who have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of abstinence. 2. The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Abstinence substantially, or as a whole, is a serious obligation. 3. The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are designated as days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-denial as penance. 4. The time for fulfilling the Pascal Precept (Easter Duty*) extends from the First Sunday of Lent to the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. *Canon All the faithful, after they have been initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, are bound by the obligation of receiving Communion at least once a year. CARDINAL S VOCATION DINNER Our Archbishop, Cardinal Joseph Tobin, is inviting all of the parishes and schools of the Archdiocese to be a part of this important event of Serra International in support of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The upcoming dinner is to be held at Nanina's in the Park in Belleville on April 10, 2018 at 6 PM. Andy if you are interested in helping to put together a table from our parish CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE ANNIVERSARY LITURGIES - The Archdiocese of Newark is once again preparing the annual tradition of honoring those couples in our Archdiocese who will be celebrating five, twentyfive, and fifty years of Christian marriage in the year Their anniversary liturgies will be celebrated by Cardinal Joseph Tobin in the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark as follows: April 29, 2018 at 3 PM - 5 years and 25 years May 6, 2018 at 3 PM - 50 years Registration is required.
