Monday, November 6 The new basement, kitchen and vestry windows of the church are scheduled to be installed on this date! We are eager to see the new windows in place, and happy that we will be able to open them in the good weather! Tuesdays, November 7 to December 5 Bible Study, Evening Group, 7:30-9 pm. Everyone welcome! Wednesday, November 8 & 22 Krafty Knitters meet the 2 nd and 4 th Wednesday of each month, 2 to 4 pm. Everyone (parishioners and folks from the community) is welcome to come and knit or crochet, or learn one of these crafts, and to enjoy fellowship and a cuppa. Sunday, November 12 the Silent Auction begins and continues to Sunday, November 26.Donations of brand new items, or just like new items for the auction are invited. Please give them to Sheryl MacPhail. Saturday, November 18 Trinity s Christmas float will be in Bradford s Santa Claus parade again this year. When you see our float along the parade route, be sure to wave at everyone on it! Roger Sorensen will be driving his truck or tractor, pulling the float. Some of our parishioners and children will be on the float and we ll be handing out candy canes along the way. Sunday, November 19 Fellowship Luncheon, following the service. Parishioners are invited to bring a small pot (not a great big one) of home-made soup. We will enjoy sampling a variety of soups. If you do not make soup, please see the sign-up page in the Upper Room for other items you could bring. 1

2 Wednesday, November 22 Advisory Board meeting, 7:22 pm. All church officers and advisory board members should attend. Interested parishioners are welcome to come and listen in at any advisory board meeting. Friday, November 24 Roast Beef Dinner and Silent Auction! Please mark your calendar as you will not want to miss this wonderful dinner. Details below... Sunday, November 26 The Silent Auction ends at 10 am. Sunday, November 25 the Last Sunday after Pentecost, Reign of Christ Sunday. On the liturgical calendar, this is the last day of one church year. A new church year will begin on Sunday, December 3, the first Sunday of Advent. Sunday, December 3 1 st Sunday of Advent. The beginning of a new church year. The readings etc. for the coming year will be those assigned for Year B. The church follows a 3-year cycle (years A, B, and C). Sunday, February 25, 2018 is the date for our annual Vestry meeting re the year CHURCH NEWS The Rev. Joanne Bennett was our Celebrant and Preacher on Sunday, October 29, while Rev. Dana was away. It was a pleasure to have Rev. Joanne with us again. We are all asked to complete a pledge form indicating our offerings for the coming year, and leave it in the sealed box in the Upper Room. It is the responsibility of our wardens to prepare a budget for the coming year and present it at the annual vestry meeting. In order to plan the budget, they rely on the information we provide on our pledge forms. Whether by PAG (pre-authorized giving) or envelopes, our offerings keep the doors open and our ministries active. Kindly provide this information at your earliest convenience. The wardens remind us that if our personal circumstances should change, it is understood that our offerings may need to change too. Bible and Faith Studies Groups Two adult Christian Education groups started this fall: one evening and one daytime. Both include worship, fellowship and study. The next set of classes will begin soon! While you are encouraged to attend all five weeks of a particular study, they are formatted such that if you miss a week you can still participate. I am looking forward to learning and growing with you in our faith together. Rev. Dana Evening Group: Tuesdays, November 7 to December 5, 7:30-9 pm. Daytime Group: Thursdays, November 9 to December 7, 2 to 3:30 pm. Sunday morning coffee volunteers are WANTED! No, not by the police but by our church family! This involves taking a turn from time to time, making coffee and tea to serve after church; setting it out with milk, cream, and sugar; and then clearing it away afterwards. No goodies are required. But if cookies or something simple is served, it is provided by the volunteers. For information, or guidance in setting up, you may ask Ann Spalding. Good news about our McGregor Meat Sale! The fall sale successfully raised almost $700! Thank-you to everyone who participated in this fund raiser. We know you will enjoy some delicious meals this season! Special thanks to Lorna and to Johnathon for organizing this again. The next sale is expected to be in the spring. 2

3 Trinity s famous roast beef dinner is coming again soon! Mark Friday, November 24 on your calendar so you won t miss it! Tender, juicy, flavourful roast beef, carved just right; mashed potatoes; gravy; Bradford carrots and mashed turnip; peas; cole slaw; pies; coffee/tea/juice all inclusive, $20. (no tax or tip!) Children s complete hamburger meal for age 10 and under: $10 per child. Tickets are available now at church, and from Sheryl MacPhail,. We don t want you to be disappointed, so we suggest getting your tickets early; our steak dinner in Sept. was sold out! Lots of help is required for a meal like this: veggie preparation, cooking, setting up, serving, clearing up, cutting pies, serving tea and coffee and pies, etc. Everyone looks for home-made pies for their dessert, and so if you can bake a pie or two, please signup on the page in the Upper Room. Also a sign-up page for helpers is ready for volunteers to add their names. Can you add your name? Trinity Kids Photo in The Anglican newspaper Last Sunday, October 22, a photographer from The Anglican newspaper arrived after the service to take a photograph of Trinity children lighting the first candle on our Advent wreath. Every year they choose a different church for this picture for their December issue, and this year Trinity Bradford was chosen. Although Advent does not begin until Sunday, December 3, our Advent wreath was brought out for an hour or so for this photo to be taken! So.. watch for the photograph to appear in the Anglican paper. Please note: If you do not currently receive this monthly Anglican newspaper, please speak with Margaret (the secretary) to be added to their mailing list. This paper is free of charge to all families in Anglican parishes. Do you have an occasion to celebrate? The main room downstairs may be rented out for special occasions for $100 a day, or part of a day. Insurance is mandatory and may be easily purchased through the Diocese s insurance company at a very reasonable rate, starting at about $35.A recent change of insurance provider resulted in less cost and an easier process for obtaining insurance! For information or to book the room, please contact Margaret, the secretary. Like the old saying It never rains but it pours. We are progressing with basement window replacements, the Church St. Windows have been repainted, the bell tower has been restored, but now our dishwasher, a reliable workhorse for the last 20 years, has finally given up. At the same time, our water heater needs to be replaced, and all this leads to the necessity of updating some old plumbing. The cost for purchasing a commercial dishwasher, including installation and the necessary plumbing upgrades is at least $5000 and up to $10,000. Thankfully we have received a donation towards this already, but more is needed. If you have been considering giving a donation in memory, or in thanksgiving, and are looking for a particular project to donate to, maybe this could be the one! For our dinner on November 24 we will use paper plates and cups, and a few people have thoughtfully volunteered to hand wash all the cutlery and serving dishes. What a delight the Children s service was on October 22! Aiden and Josh were excellent readers! Many people enjoyed singing the children s hymns. Our thanks to Sunday School teacher Elizabeth, and to Rev. Dana, and the children who participated in this service. On Halloween, Trinity handed out treats for children and coffee/tea for adults accompanying them. This is one more way of connecting with our community! 40 to 45 children came by! Thank-you Rev. Dana and Stewart! 3

4 Two important things about our lift: 1. Leaving the lift on its lower level, after use, is recommended by the elevator company. This is to prevent a loss of oil that happens when the lift is left on the upper level. 2. The lift is there for us to use! If anyone could benefit from using our lift to go between the upper and lower levels of the church, please do not hesitate to ask. Many people are willing and able to help with the lift: Sheryl MacPhail, Meg White, Lorna Oldreive, Art Holden, Margaret or Barrie Schroeder, Sandra or Fred Longthorne, Ann Spalding and likely some others. If you need help to use the lift ask, and you shall receive! The Men s Breakfast in late October was enjoyed by all the men who attended. They had wonderful conversation and heard interesting stories about one another s personal histories and careers. Thank-you to Sandra and Fred Longthorne for preparing a great breakfast! The men are hoping for another breakfast in January or February. At that time, it is hoped to have someone speak on some of the highlights of Bradford s history. When the church needs coffee, tea, milk, cream or sugar for our Sunday morning coffee time, the person to contact is Cynthia Riley,. Cynthia will pick up whatever is needed if we give her a few days notice. When the church needs kitchen items (butter, detergent, paper towels, food wrap, napkins etc.), there is a page on the wall near the window where we can make note of it. Sheryl MacPhail keeps track of this list, and she or Lorna will pick up these items. Or we may speak with Sheryl anytime about items needed. Kids in Jr. K and up are welcome at Sunday School. The children start off in church with their parents, and go downstairs following the Children s Focus, where teacher Elizabeth Annand is ready and waiting for them, with Christian fun and learning every Sunday morning! 10 am Sunday School craft supplies: we are so thankful to anyone who has donated supplies. At the moment we have a lot of different items. Elizabeth will let people know when we are in need of specific items or are running low on items. Thank you! We still have some green long-sleeve T-shirts from The Great Trinity Steeplechase (that wonderful, fun event a few years ago) and these are on sale at $5 each. We notice that some of our parishioners enjoy wearing their green shirts at other church events too! e.g. suppers, the steak bbq, bell tower party, or any time we want to celebrate or bring attention to Trinity Church! If you would like to have one of these eye-catching T-shirts they are available in the Upper Room on Sundays, and in the 2 nd hand shop (although they are not 2 nd hand).you may also contact Margaret in the office, or Sheryl MacPhail. A big thank-you to all my church friends who helped celebrate my 90 th! Many thanks for being there, for greeting cards, and donation to the Food Bank. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. 5 Mounted on the wall in the reception alcove, facing the coat cupboard, is a special window. This window was returned to Trinity Church from the U. S. after an absence of many decades. Originally it was one of the set of three windows above the choir pews in the chancel. Years ago these windows were replaced by stained glass memorial windows given by the Wood family. The original three windows were taken by Ken Wood s sister and brother-in-law, the Bartells, who gave one to each of their children. Their son John had his window framed and tiny coloured lights added. When turned on the lights glow red, green, blue, or purple according to the colour of the liturgical season. A few years ago, believing the window should be returned to its original home, John shipped it back to Trinity Church from Oregon. Unfortunately, it was damaged in transit, but was eventually repaired (by a friend of Rob Wood, at a reasonable price, paid by John). Now it is mounted on the wall in the reception alcove. The Wood family, including Ruth, has a long history at Trinity Church. Service Projection at Trinity For those who were in church on Sunday June 25, you experienced projection of the service, media, and hymn lyrics on a TV that stood in the pulpit. We received many positive comments and feedback on the use of the technology that day and inquiries about its continued use. Together with Dana, we have several years of experience projecting the Anglican service, media and lyrics. It has been received positively by parishioners and highly appreciated by visitors not familiar with the Anglican service and traditions. For those seeking to find a new church or faith community, it can help lower a barrier to entry by making the service easier to follow. Hymns aren t always projected due to copyright laws, but when they are, people s voices have more opportunity to be heard if they aren t singing into a hymn book. It also can be helpful in reducing the amount of flipping pages we do in the Anglican services. That being said, it is still just an alternative, and many parishioners faithful to the Anglican traditions will continue to use their prayer books instead of looking to the projected service. Money has been donated for the equipment needed to do projection at Trinity Bradford, and the wardens approved an installation project. A TV has been mounted on an articulating arm above the pulpit. The arm will allow for the TV to swing back, flat against the wall when not in use, and not look intrusive to the space. A computer is set up in the north-side window between the sanctuary and the upper room. Money is not the only resource that is needed for this project though; people are needed to be part of the ministry. I have written an instruction manual on how to program a BAS service, and will provide training. We are looking for a team of people, with each person taking a Sunday service once every 4-6 weeks depending on how many people are interested and able to do the work. It becomes a ministry that is equivalent to reading, interceding, or serving it just requires some technical aptitude and about 20 minutes to prepare the service ahead of time. If you have questions or are interested in being part of this ministry feel free to talk with me or Rev Dana. Stewart Bond Rev. Dana has left a selection of reading material in the Upper Room for parishioners to borrow if they wish. A sign-up page is there for borrowers. Please do not keep the books as they belong to Rev. Dana. We re still calling for new Servers! Young people and adults are invited to become servers, to take turns assisting Rev. Dana at the Eucharist. An honourable and important ministry, it requires little time commitment since servers take turns according to a schedule. No meetings either! Anyone who is interested in serving God and our church in this way may speak with Art Holden,. A brief training is provided. 5

6 November Finance Feature: Providing Christian education and fellowship for children and young people in our church and in our community is a top priority of our ministry at Trinity. Averaging things out, providing these programs adds up to about $227 per month. This figure does not include the time and guidance by Rev. Dana, the share of heat and hydro etc. Trinity Church is blessed to have devoted and capable teachers. Elizabeth Annand is our Sunday School teacher and youth group leader. Barb Jones organizes our annual Vacation Bible School. Contributions to our children and youth ministries are always welcome and appreciated. From Rev. Dana's Desk: "Why can't I follow/find the Collect and other prayers?" This a question that I have heard lately. First, I'm glad to hear that people want to follow along with the prayers; this is not always the case. The Collect, Prayer over the Gifts and Prayer After Communion these days mostly come from the Anglican Church of Canada's "trial use Propers (weekly appointed prayers)" that were released about two years ago. There was a realization within the Church that the prayers in the Book of Alternative Services were one set that was to cover three different years, each with their own themes. In the case of the Collect, it is hard to collect or gather up the theme of the day if there are three different themes. So the Faith and Worship Committee of the National Church created a sub-committee who, mostly drawing on other resources like the Evangelical Lutheran Church for prayers, collated prayers for each Sunday to match the three cycles of readings and offering a choice of two prayers for each Sunday. As for the Prayer over the Gifts and Prayer after Communion, they offered seasonally themed prayers instead of weekly, re-enforcing the seasonal themes of thanksgiving and sending us into the world. As a trial use production, there are still some glitches Sundays when I feel neither of the choices really capture the theme but the Book of Alternative Services does, so I use those instead. One of the things I will work on with our new projection ministry team is whether we can add these prayers to the library of the program to be included in what is on the screen. In the meantime I hope this clears up some of the confusion for those used to following these prayers. Rev. Dana Please check the notice board on the wall just inside the south oak doors! Church announcements for Sunday bulletins should be ed to Margaret, the secretary, no later than Tuesday of the week, and preferably by the Sunday. Note from the Youth Group! The Youth Group will be collecting cereal boxes for Haiti in November. More information to follow, so save those cereal boxes! Rev. Dana and Stewart spend 15 minutes in prayer, in the church, from 9 to 9:15 am Sunday mornings. Parishioners are welcome to come and pray before the service as well. 7 Rev. Dana invites children to begin the church service with their parents. They stay until after the Children s Focus, and then children in Jr. K or older are invited downstairs for Sunday School with teacher Elizabeth Annand. Children are always welcome in the worship service. Colouring pages and crayons are available in the Upper Room (narthex) for children to take into the pews with their parents. The choir room is available for parents with little ones during Sunday services. Toys, a baby gate, and baby monitor (for parents to follow the service) are available in the choir room. We pray for anyone in need of prayer Trinity s Prayer Circle members pray for anyone in need of God s healing grace. The Prayer Circle is a group of parishioners who, in their own personal prayers, pray for anyone in need of prayer. The only requirement is that the one to be prayed for is in agreement with his/her name being given to the Prayer Circle. To request prayer by the Prayer Circle, please contact Sandra Longthorne,. Requests are passed to Circle members by or phone. We have no meetings. For each prayer request we pray for about a month, or as requested. 2. Prayers of the People/Litany In our Sunday morning prayers we include anyone in need of healing. To have someone mentioned, please write the name in the little black book on the stand in the Upper Room, prior to the service. The only requirement is that the person to be prayed for has given permission for his/her name to be read aloud. Usually a first name is enough. 3. The weekly Cycle of Prayer Every Sunday morning three families in our congregation (in alphabetical order from our parish list) are prayed for within the prayers of the people. We are encouraged to pray for these folks during the week at home too. Rev. Dana s day off is Monday of each week. She may be reached at the church office, In case of crisis or death, you may call her at As part of our Pastoral Care ministry we send get well, sympathy, or thinking of you cards to parishioners when the occasion presents itself. If you are aware of a parishioner to whom we may send a card, please contact the secretary by or at the church office. Welcome Folders are available in the Upper Room (narthex) on the table near the top of the stairs for newcomers or anyone interested in information about Trinity Church, or the Anglican church in general. Gluten-free wafers are available for Communion. If needed, please mention this to Rev. Dana prior to the service. When a parishioner is hospitalized, it would be helpful if the patient, a family member, or close friend would let us know. A visit or call, according to the patient s wishes, will be arranged. Pre-arranging a funeral or a celebration of life service can be helpful to a family at a stressful time. If you wish to leave your final wishes and instructions in a file in the church office, please speak with the priest. 7

8 Volunteers play a big part in keeping our church open and active, and save us a lot of money. If you are not one already, you can easily become a volunteer. Here are some ideas! On the list below you are likely to something you can help with, whether it be once, or twice, or more often. If so, please let us know! 9 Message from Our Wardens Did you know that an extraordinary amount of ministry happens through the operating budget of the church? However, we are actively seeking new ways to reach out with the good news in our community, both in proclamation and in deed. This goal requires financing. Did you know that approximately $12, is raised through our fundraising projects every year to balance our operating budget? Did you know that an additional gift of $ per year per family, per year, would allow us to reallocate that $12, per year to outreach and new ministry initiatives? Did you know that...an additional $ per year is only an additional $5.00 per week, or $20.00 per month? We ask you to prayerfully consider making this additional offering as part of your regular giving and help our church reach out with good news in new and exciting ways in your community. Remembering your parish church in your will is one of the ways in which future Anglican ministry can be ensured in our community. We currently receive a dividend averaging about $ per year thanks to the generous legacy offered to us through the estate of the late John Barnard. In difficult times this funding has been crucial to our ongoing budget, and in good times it has allowed us to undertake new initiatives. By remembering Trinity Church in your will, you will continue to support God s mission in our community for many generations to come! Legacies may be designated in many different ways.
