2 Dear Friends, Padre s Page 11 th Sunday in Ordinary Time June 14, 2015 Last Saturday Bishop Loverde ordained one new transitional deacon and seven new priests for our diocese! I was honored to preach the First Mass of one of our new priests at another parish on Sunday, which is why I was not present at a number of our Masses. Last Thursday, June 11, Fr. James celebrated his tenth anniversary of ordination as a priest! We congratulate him! Please continue to pray for him (and for all priests), and be sure to express to him your thanks for his having answered the Lord s call. This weekend (on Saturday) we were blessed to host Bishop Loverde for the Confirmation of 78 of our Middle Schoolers. Please pray for them, that they may continue to grow in the strength of the Holy Spirit which they have received. Their names are listed in this week s bulletin. Please join me for a Prayer Workshop this Monday, June 15 at 7:30 P.M. in Benedict Hall, at which I will explain how to encounter Jesus through the prayerful meditation of the Sacred Scriptures, a method known as the lectio divina (the divine lesson). All are welcome! Young adults are also invited to join me in a theological reflection on wine during a vineyard tour and wine tasting next Saturday, June 20. There are details in this bulletin. We are still in need of donations to help feed the homeless and those in need that come to our doors! Please fill a bag this week with healthy. Because many of those we serve have chronic health concerns such as high blood pressure and diabetes, please look for foods without added sugar or high fructose corn syrup and for those low in salt. Please know that we give out approximately 40 family-sized bags of groceries a week. We also need donations for lunch bags for the homeless. Smaller sized canned protein (vienna sausages, tuna, or chicken), canned fruit, granola bars or other healthy snacks, and small water bottles or juice boxes. We hand out anywhere from bags a day to our homeless neighbors! Thank you in advance for your generosity! Call the school office for an appointment at Looking for Christ A Spiritual Retreat Join us for a weekend-long St. Ignatian Retreat at the San Damiano Spiritual Life Center in White Post, in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. The purpose of this retreat is to bring us into an encounter with Christ who heals our wounds, cleanses our hearts and engages us in an ever deeper relationship with Him. The retreat is from June 26 to June 28 and will be led by Fr. Julian Elizalde, S.J., of the Christian Life Community. For more information and to register, multicultural/index.aspx Bilingual Mass to Pray for Healing for Victims/Survivors of Sexual Abuse In 2004, Bishop Loverde began a series of diocesan-sponsored Masses for the community to gather together to pray for healing for victims/survivors of sexual abuse. The masses are followed by a reception. The next Mass will be on June 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1427 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria Bishop Loverde will preside. Theology on Tap (TOT)- Great Talks and Live Music the Second Monday of Every Month at O Sullivan s Irish Pub in Clarendon.
