Following the 6:00 p.m. High Mass there will be an outdoor Eucharistic Procession to three altars for benediction. In case of inclement weather the procession will be held inside the church. Sunday, June 18 is the External Solemnity of Corpus Christi. As per the indult given in the USA on November 25, 1885 under Pope Leo XIII, the Mass of Corpus Christi with the Eucharistic Procession will be repeated following the 10:30 a.m. High Mass, but will be held indoors and without triple benediction. SOLEMNITY OF THE SACRED HEART Friday, June 23 is the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. After the 6:00 p.m. High Mass Fr. Miara will consecrate the parish and all of our parishioners to the Sacred Heart. Please plan on attending with your families as we make this Act of Consecration together, begging almighty God for a great outpouring of graces upon us as we take refuge in this Heart which has loved men so much! This will be followed by a Eucharistic Holy Hour of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Benediction. DEVOTIONS TO OUR LADY OF FATIMA Tuesday, June 13 th marks the 100 th anniversary of Our Lady s second apparition at Fatima and the manifestation of Her Immaculate Heart. Devotions in Her honor will follow the 6:00 p.m. Mass consisting of the recitation of the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary, a candlelight Eucharistic Procession and the traditional Fatima Farewell (please bring a white handkerchief to wave to Our Lady.) You are reminded that a PLENARY INDULGENCE may be gained on this day by praying before any statue of Our Lady of Fatima in a church or chapel during the days of the anniversary of the apparitions, the 13th of each month from May to October BABY BOTTLE DRIVE The Baby Bottle Drive for Expectant Mother Care/ FRONTLINE Pregnancy Centers which began on Mother s Day will conclude next weekend. 3 JUBILEE OF FATIMA APPARITION OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA ON JUNE 13, 1917 In Portugal the 13th of June is a great feast, the feast of St. Anthony of Lisbon, known to most Catholics as St. Anthony of Padua. This Franciscan miracle-worker was born in Lisbon and had entered religious life as a Canon Regular of the Holy Cross, residing first in Lisbon and then Coimbra, before leaving the Portuguese order for the new Order of Friars Minor and a hope of martyrdom. It was, and is, THE children's feast in Portugal, so the parents of Lucia naturally thought that the festivities at the parish church in Fátima would distract her from the appointment at the Cova. However, undismayed Lucia and the Marto children proceeded to the apparition site to keep their noon day rendezvous. When they arrived they found a small crowd awaiting them. Lucia relates the following from her memoirs: After having said the rosary with Jacinta and Francisco and other people who were present, we saw again the reflection of light nearing us, (we used to say it was lightening), and following, Our Lady on the holm oak as in May. "Please tell me, Madam, what it is that you want of me?" I want you to come here on the thirteenth of next month. I want you to continue saying the Rosary every day. And after each one of the mysteries, my children, I want you to pray in this way: O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Take all souls to heaven, especially those who are most in need. I want you to learn to read and write, and later I will tell you what else I want of you. "Will you take us to heaven?" Yes, I shall take Jacinta and Francisco soon, but you will remain a little longer, since Jesus wishes you to make me known and loved on earth. He wishes also for you to establish devotion in the world to my Immaculate Heart. "Must I remain in the world alone?" Not alone, my child, and you must not be sad. I will be with you always, and my Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way which will lead you to God. The moment she said the last words, opening her hands, She transmitted to us, for the second time, the reflection of that intense light. In it we felt we were submerged in God. Jacinta and Francisco seemed to be in that part of the light which was rising to Heaven, and I in the part spreading over the earth. In front of the palm of Our Lady's right hand was a heart encircled with thorns which appeared to pierce it. We understood it was the Immaculate Heart of Mary offended by the sins of mankind and pleading for reparation. The apparition then concluded as on the first occasion, with the Lady going off toward the east and disappearing in the "immensity of heaven." INDULGENCE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF FATIMA Pope Francis has granted a plenary indulgence opportunity for the 100th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions throughout the centennial year, from November 27, 2016 until November 26, There are three ways to obtain the indulgence: 1) Make a pilgrimage to the Shrine in Fatima, Portugal and participate in a celebration of prayer. 2) Pray before any statue of Our Lady of Fatima in a church or chapel during the days of the anniversary of the apparitions, the 13th of each month from May to October ) The elderly and infirm may pray in front of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima on the days of the apparitions, the 13th of each month, between May and October HOLY INNOCENTS CALENDARS The 2017 Holy Innocents calendars which were originally selling for $10 are now on sale for half price at $5 per calendar. COLLECTIVE MASSES The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for the collective intentions of the donors as follows: Each Tuesday a Mass will be offered in honor of St. Anthony for the intentions given by his clients. On the first Wednesday of the month a Mass will be offered for all of the novena intentions to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. On the first Thursday of the month a Mass will be offered in honor of the Infant Jesus of Prague for the intentions given by his clients. Envelopes for this purpose are located throughout the church, and marked accordingly. Please return these envelopes to the Rectory Office, the collection basket, or to any of the donation boxes in the church for your intentions and loved ones to be remembered in these special Collective Masses.

5 Venerable Fr. Solanus Casey to be Beatified! It was announced on Thursday, May 4, that Pope Francis confirmed the authenticity of a miracle attributed to Venerable Solanus Casey (November 25, 1870-July 31, 1957): A woman (her name has not yet been released) suffered from an incurable genetic skin disease. While visiting friends in Detroit, she decided to visit Fr. Solanus' tomb to pray for the intentions of a long list of people who had need of prayer. After her prayers, she felt a nudge internally, urging her to ask for Fr. Solanus' intercession for herself, as well. Reluctantly, she added her own needs to the list of favors requested; and she received an instantaneous and visible healing. Doctors in Detroit, in Rome, and in her home country have studied the case, and all agree that the healing has no scientific explanation and is, therefore, miraculous. The sixth of 16 children, Bernard Francis Casey was received into the Capuchin Franciscan Friars on January 14, 1897 and given the name Solanus after St. Francis Solano. He was ordained a simplex priest (he did not have the faculties to hear confessions or preach doctrinal sermons because he did not do well in his studies) on July 24, 1904 and spent the first 20 years of his priesthood in New York at Sacred Heart Friary in Yonkers, St. John s Church near Penn Station, and Our Lady Queen of Angels in Harlem. In 1924 he was transferred back to Detroit where he served as porter or doorkeeper. Apart from his quick reputation as a holy and compassionate listener, he was known for his love of music, especially for playing his violin, and his gentle, whispery voice which was the result of a bout of diphtheria he suffered as a child. More than 8,000 people attended his funeral, the result of the momentous impact he had on countless lives, included numerous reported cures, favors and intercessions. The official beatification ceremony will occur in the Detroit Archdiocese the end of this year. After his beatification, one more authenticated miracle will be needed for hid canonization. PRAYER FOR THE CANONIZATION OF FR. SOLANUS CASEY O God, I adore You, I give myself to You. May I be the person You want me to be, and may Your will be done in my life today. I thank You for the gifts You gave to Father Solanus. If it is Your Will, bless us with the canonization of Father Solanus so that others may imitate and carry on His Love for all the poor and suffering of our world. As he joyfully accepted Your divine plans, I ask You, according to Your Will, to hear my prayer for (your intention) Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. FATHER S DAY NOVENA OF MASSES A nine day novena of Holy Masses for all fathers, grandfathers, godfathers and spiritual fathers will take place at Holy Innocents beginning on Father s Day, Sunday, June 18, and ending on June 26. Envelopes for this purpose are located throughout the church. Please return the envelope with the names of all those you wish to remember in this special series of Masses to the rectory, collection basket, or any of the offering boxes in the church before Father s Day so they can be placed on the altar. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the greatest gift we can give anyone, living or deceased. ANNUAL MISSION APPEAL Fr. Johunus Cherunilath V.C, a Vincentian Missionary Priest from India, will be in our parish on weekend of June 17 & 18 to participate in our Annual Missionary Cooperation Plan. He will preach at all the Masses next weekend and will make an appeal on behalf of the Vincentian Missions. The Vincentian Congregation (V.C.), a missionary sending Religious Congregation, was founded in Kerala, India in 1904, modeled after the Congregation of the Mission founded by St. Vincent de Paul. Members of this flourishing Religious Congregation, all natives of India, are engaged in Mission Work in all parts of India and in several countries in Africa. The Vincentian Missionaries need our help to carry out their many missionary, educational and charitable activities in their missions worldwide. They need our special financial support for the training of young men studying for priesthood. The second collection next weekend will be to help the Missionary work of the Vincentian Fathers. We urge you to be very generous in your mission offering and please keep Fr. Johunus and all the Vincentian Missionaries and seminarians in your prayers.
