Darcy will be on 24-hour emergency Catholic Chaplain duty at Memorial Hospital, Oct. 31, from 9 am to 9 am Mass for All Saints Day on Tuesday, November 1, will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. with the children of St. Margaret School. Mass will also be celebrated Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. The Annual Collection le er will be sent to all parishioners this week. This collection enables the parish to undertake various improvements needed to maintain the parish buildings and grounds, such as the recent improvements to the exterior and interior of the church, the walkways and the surrounding landscaping. The Hospitality & Greeters Committee will hold the next Coffee N reception in the community room on November 6, immediately following the 8:00 and 10:00 Masses. Please take a moment to stop in and say hello to your fellow parishioners! The Annual Memorial Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated at the 10:00 Mass next Sunday, November 6. Loved ones of all those who were buried from St. Margaret Church during the previous year are invited to a end. The Rumford Lions Club will hold a Winter Clothing Drive on Saturday, November 19, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Newman Congregational Church. Gently used, clean clothing for men, women and children may be dropped off. In addition to warm clothing such as sweaters, coats, jackets, mi ens and scarves, the Lions will also accept donations of blankets and sleeping bags. 3 St. Margaret Parish Ministries Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time The Holy Rite of Confirmation will take place next Sunday, November 6 at 4:00 p.m. Bishop Robert C. Evans will confirm the candidates from our Confirmation 2 class. Confirmation 1 candidates are invited to a end this special Mass in order to support the Confirmation 2 candidates with their prayers, as well as to observe what the Rite of Confirmation entails. At the conclusion of the Mass, Confirmation 1 candidates will help out at the reception in McCaffrey Hall, in the lower level of the school. Rehearsal for the Confirmation Mass will take place on Thursday, November 3, at 7:00 p.m. All candidates and their sponsors are asked to gather in the church. All Confirmation students are asked to sign-in when they a end weekend Mass on Saturday or Sunday. Confirmation candidates may sign in by coming to the sacristy at the front doors of the Church where Monsignor Darcy and altar servers prepare for Mass. If a candidate a ends a Sunday Mass at another Church, a signed bulletin by the priest is required, and should be placed in the folder which is with the Sign-in book. Children s Choir All youth are welcome to sing in the Children s Choir at the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday evenings. Join us at 4 p.m. for rehearsal in the Community Room. The Next Baptism Preparation Session will be held on Mon., Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. in the Community Room. Parents should be registered parish members and commi ed to sharing their Catholic faith and its practices with their growing family. Godparent or Confirmation Sponsor Form: Have you been asked to be a godparent or confirmation sponsor? If you have, please know that you will be required to be a registered parishioner of Saint Margaret Church for six months before we can issue a le er in good standing as required for sponsors to indicate they are striving to practice their faith by regular worship, as well as by being in good canonical standing and living lives consistent with Gospel values. November is the month of All Souls We remember our faithful departed during the month of November. All are welcome to inscribe the names of deceased loved ones in the Parish Book of Remembrance, near the baptismal font in the sanctuary. If you wish to memorialize a loved one with a donation to the church, you may use the All Souls Remembrance Envelope at the entrances to the Church. You may place the envelope, with your loved one s name inscribed, in the regular Offertory collection basket. Those names will be in repose near the baptismal font and Easter Candle. All our deceased loved ones will be remembered in each Mass during the month of November. High School Open Houses A message from the principal: I would like to thank Monsignor Darcy for his hospital visits, patience and support. I would also like to thank members of the choir and all parishioners for their prayers, encouragement and support following my recent surgery. Saint Margaret parish is very special and I am happy to be back as principal. I hope to return full time soon. Cardinal Dolan s talk, Jewish- Catholic Dialogue: 2,000 Years But Just Beginning, is the keynote address in Providence College s Theological Exchange Between Catholics and Jews Lecture Series. It is presented in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council s Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions. 5 October 30, 2016 The Pastor s Page Role casting is very important in the performing arts. Even in the wonderful productions directed by Mr. Procopio with the St. Margaret School students, Ron assists the students to get into character (as they say in the business). If I were role casting anybody for the role of Zaccheus, hands down it would be Danny DiVito. Imagine him pushing a taller person aside just trying to get a glimpse of Jesus. Then, think of him shimmying up a sycamore tree to have a be er view of the situation. The scene must have been amusing seeing a grown man in a tree in order to see an itinerant preacher walking by the way! Deacon Needham last week gave a provocative homily on the difference between the a itudes of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector. In today s Gospel, salvation came to Zacchaeus house because he repented and then responded to the invitation offered by Jesus. When all is said and done, it s all about relationship with God, with neighbor, and with self. Our individual baptismal call (soon to be renewed and strengthened in the lives of our Confirmation candidates) is the foundational relationship in our lives. Reflective of the Church, some candidates are learning about their faith with interest; for others, it seems to be almost a distraction. Relationship means change; what kind of change depends so much on us. Zacchaeus changed, too. His former life of corruption had to end as a major part of that transformation. We are approaching the month of All Souls during which we remember our loved ones whose lives have changed, not ended. It is a noble custom to pray and offer Masses for the dead. The Pastor s Page will be dedicated to our faith customs during the month of November. St. Paul tells us that we shall be changed, in a moment in the twinkling of an eye (1 Cor. 15:52). It s always a process; sometimes we change quickly, but most times slowly. But change we must, to have salvation come to us, too, as it came to Zacchaeus with his encounter with Jesus. ~Until next week, Monsignor Darcy
