2 MY BELOVED FLOCK MASS SCHEDULE & INTENTIONS Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned. How well were you listening to the first reading at today s Mass from the book of Genesis? Question: How many trees were there in the Garden of Eden? The answer: every kind of tree. Did you happen to notice what kinds of trees were in the garden? Trees that were enticing to look at; trees that were good to eat [from]; the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the middle of the garden. Robles (Rosaura Flores) There must have been a good reason for God to have placed the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the middle of the garden: the reason is temptation and its consequence. God did not prohibit mankind from being fed He did prohibit us from being fed with something that can make us very sick sick to our souls: sin. The fruit of sinfulness is always enticing and once picked, it undoubtedly tastes as good as it did to Eve but once it hits the belly oh, how it sours: Original Sin must have been devastating! It s effects still are. In today s Gospel, the Satan tempts our Lord into succumbing to hunger, power and false worship. Satan does not have scruples. What is the first temptation of Jesus? command that these stones become loaves of bread. Hunger. Would you be hungry after fasting for forty days and forty nights? Our Lord, human in everything except sin, rebukes all the devil s temptations. St. Paul reminds us that sin entered the world through one man, Adam. Sometimes we may think that we can never amend our evil ways the opposite is true. Why? Because just as sin entered the world through one man, so too, did divine grace [come] through one man, Jesus Christ. [Rom 5:15] When we fall from temptation into sin, there is but one remedy: receiving this divine grace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Why? Because the sanctifying grace received in this sacrament is the true fruit of His Mercy: forgiveness. Make a profound and sincere confession this season of Lent. Por qué? Debido a que la gracia santificante recibida en este sacramento es el verdadero fruto de Su Misericordia: el perdón. Hacer una confesión profunda y sincera este tiempo de Cuaresma. HELENA S NEWS Thank you so much for your generosity in order to replace the communion cups. A total of $2,163 was raised! The total cost of the cups is about $2040 so the extra amount will be used to purchase sacramental wine. May the Lord especially bless you for your continue generosity to the parish. Fr. 5 CHAPLET OF THE DIVINE MERCY Beginning on March 1, 2017, Ash Wednesday, the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy will be recited after all weekend masses of the Lenten season. The faithful are asked to enter and leave the church in sacred silence as an act of penance throughout the Lenten season. There will be no recessional hymn after the final blessing and the faithful are asked to kneel immediately afterward. Please bring your rosary to every weekend mass in order to recite the chaplet. Let us offer this beautiful and profound act of penance for the souls in purgatory and for all of our intentions throughout the Lenten season. God bless you. Fr.
