HOMILY NICENE CREED I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, (All bow while saying:) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. 6 HOLY FAMILY ACADEMY: TELL YOUR FRIENDS! Word of mouth is the both the best way to welcome others, and the best advertisement. Please tell the parents you know about all the amazing things HFA has to offer their children, ages Pre-K through 8 th grade! Holy Family Academy provides its students with a classical education. A classical education gives students a strong background in literature, history, language, grammar, writing, math and the sciences. It views all of these subjects as interrelated, and shows students the connections between them. A classical curriculum concentrates on fully developing the intellectual and character skills appropriate to each age level, thereby progressively and effectively guiding students into more advanced work. The classical model of education represents the backbone of the Western tradition, and was used by the Catholic Church to instruct her faithful for most of her 2,000 year history. HFA OPEN CLASSROOM EVENT Do you know parents of st, 2 nd, or 3 rd graders who would be interested in HFA? Please help spread the word! See our students excelling through their classical education by visiting the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade classrooms on Tuesday, Mar. 7 th, 9-10 AM! There will be an opportunity to ask questions and meet with our principal, Jim Grogan, and our teachers at the end of your visit. RSVP to jgrogan@hfamn.org if you plan to attend. Walk-ins are also welcome! HOLY FAMILY ACADEMY: NEWS SUPPORT HFA: SCHWAN S CARES FUNDRAISER Thank you to those who are working diligently to get to our required fundraising level! Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: Pre-K through Grade 1 The purpose of The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is to assist the involvement of children and adults in a common religious experience in which the religious values of childhood, primarily those values of contemplation and enjoyment of God, are predominant. 7 LENT 2017 AT HOLY FAMILY Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of both fasting and abstinence. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. Fasting is obligatory for all those ages (one full meal and two smaller snacks not to equal a meal). Abstinence from all meat products is binding on those age 14 and up. PLEASE JOIN US FOR AN ADULT LENTEN LEARNING SERIES! Holy Family welcomes all adult parishioners, married and unmarried, to participate in our newest four-week catechesis series: A Practical Guide to Marriage in Confusing Times. Chances are you ve heard the statistic that around 50% of today s marriages end in divorce. Chances are even better that you know someone who is divorced. This Lenten series is designed to recognize the societal and personal difficulties of marriage and family life, and to apply the wisdom of human experience, the grace of the sacraments, and the hope of Church teaching to help us learn how to encourage ourselves and others to fully commit in a world moving away from commitment. Each presentation will take place on Tuesdays, Mar. 7 th through Mar. 28 th, from 7-8 PM in Fr. Moorman Hall. Time for questions and discussion will be provided. All are welcome! At 3 PM, on Sunday, Mar. 5 th, the Mirandola Ensemble will present Parce Domine: Meditations for Lent, a program of lush polyphony and virtuosic Gregorian chant. The program includes movements of Orlando di Lasso's haunting Prophetiae Sibyllarum, Thomas Tallis's Lamentations of Jeremiah, the sublime chant melodies of Hildegard von Bingen, and the more subdued polyphony of Tomás Luis de Victoria and King John IV of Portugal. This free-will offering event will be approximately one hour in length. For more fish fry information, or to find our disciple sign-up list (all are welcome to help!), check out 7
