5 HERE AT HOLY FAMILY MESSAGE FROM FATHER WELZBACHER To the Holy Family parishioners: I have completed (though not in uninterrupted sequence) the offering of 9 Masses for the Holy Family parishioners with special gratitude for those of you who have shown me, in my brief tenure here, a most remarkable affection, often with the pledge of continuing prayer on my behalf. Thank you and God bless you. Father Welzbacher SIDEWALK COUNSELING TRAINING SEMINAR The Holy Family Respect Life Committee and Pro Life Action Ministries are hosting a Sidewalk Counseling Training Seminar on Monday, March 2nd from 7-9pm in Moorman Hall. What is sidewalk counseling? Sidewalk counseling is a way of peacefully reaching out, with truth and love, to a woman entering an abortion facility. This seminar is for anyone who may feel called to participate in sidewalk counseling, or who just wants to learn more about it. EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS MEETING Methodist Hospital Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion: please plan to attend the meeting at Holy Family on Monday, March 2 at 8:30am (after Mass) in the St. Joseph Room. Call Sharon at x13 if you have questions. DONUT SUNDAYS We re looking for disciples for Donut Sundays! If you are looking to meet more parishioners, this is the place for you. No experience necessary; families are welcome! For more details, please contact Jennifer Flesher at jennifer@hfcmn.org. TARGET: TAKE CHARGE OF EDUCATION Did you know that Holy Family Academy has received an average of $3,400 from Target since we started participating in Take Charge of Education in 2002? If you have a Target REDcard, simply enroll in the Take Charge of Education program and choose Holy Family Academy as your designated school. Target will donate up to 1% of your REDcard purchases to your chosen school. Ask family and friends to do the same! Thank you to all who are currently participating in this program! 2015 CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL The 2015 Catholic Services Appeal (CSA) is underway. At Masses, we distributed pledge envelopes to give everyone an opportunity to participate. If you have not made your contribution to the 2015 Catholic Services Appeal, please consider doing so online. The Appeal funds services that no one parish or individual can support alone. These services must go on despite these troubled times in our archdiocese. It is important to know that contributions to the Catholic Services Appeal will be used for the benefit of designated ministries of the Appeal. Please visit the new Catholic Services Appeal Foundation website at csafspm.org for more information. LENT 2015 AT HOLY FAMILY LENTEN FISH FRY The Knights of Columbus will be serving a Lenten Fish Fry every Friday of Lent (February 20 to March 27) between 4:30PM and 6:30PM. The meal includes deep fried battered fish, homemade hushpuppies, and coleslaw. This menu has been tested at the Knights' monthly lectures and received great reviews! Adult plates are $8 and children plates are $4. Macaroni and cheese is also available for children. The funds raised will be used to support the physical needs of our parish, so please invite others and come support our beloved church! Also, the Youth Group will be selling homemade desserts to raise funds for their trip to World Youth Day! After the meal, be sure to stick around for Stations of the Cross in the church at 7:00PM! For more information, check out our website: STATIONS OF THE CROSS AND LENTEN LECTURE SERIES Each Friday of Lent we will have Stations of the Cross at 7pm with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. At 7:45pm there will be a lecture on an aspect of the "Year of Consecrated Life" declared by Pope Francis. The lecture concludes at 8:30pm but people are welcome to stay afterwards for a Q&A session. MINNESOTA FOODSHARE MARCH CAMPAIGN During the month of March, Holy Family is joining people of good will from across the state to help alleviate hunger. Minnesota FoodShare s March Campaign is the largest food drive in the state, and congregations like ours are the heart of the campaign. You are invited to bring non-perishable items to Mass every weekend during March. CONFESSION NIGHT In addition to our regular daily and weekend confession schedule, we will have a number of guest priests joining us to hear confessions on Wednesday, March 11, at 7pm. PASSIONTIDE CONCERT The power of music helps us meditate on the Passion of the Lord with The Seven Last Words of Our Savior on the Cross by Haydn performed by the Sobieski String Quartet on Sunday, March 22 at 3pm. SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES Package food for those in need far away at Feed My Starving Children at the Chanhassen facility on March 17 (2:30-4:30pm), March 26 (2:30-4:30pm), and on March 31 (8-9:30pm) at the Coon Rapids facility. Your help is needed at the Golden Living Center to assist with bringing residents to and from the main dining room for 10 am Mass and/or Communion Service on the first and third Friday of the month (next date: March 6). This is a time commitment of approximately 1½ hours. Please call Sharon at x13 for more information. On the fourth Monday of the month (March 23), Holy Family volunteers gather in our Church kitchen after Mass to prepare, transport and serve a hot nutritious meal to the homeless at the Catholic Charities Opportunity Center (Branch III). This is a time commitment of approximately 3½ hours from start to finish, but can be broken down into shorter segments depending on your availability. Please call Sharon at x13 for more information. 7 EUCHARISTIC DEVOTION Adoration is the first attitude of man acknowledging that he is a creature before his Creator. It exalts the greatness of the Lord who made us and the almighty power of the Savior who sets us free from evil. Adoration is homage of the spirit to the "King of Glory," respectful silence in the presence of the "ever greater" God. Adoration of the thrice-holy and sovereign God of love blends with humility and gives assurance to our supplications. Catechism of the Catholic Church, no The importance of Eucharistic Adoration is shown in the fact that the Church has a ritual that regulates it: the Rite of Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction. This is an extension of the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament which occurs in every Mass: "Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb." Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament flows from the sacrifice of the Mass and serves to deepen our hunger for Communion with Christ and the rest of the Church. The Rite concludes with the ordained minister blessing the faithful with the Blessed Sacrament. It is our goal at Holy Family to have at least two adorers present at each hour on the adoration schedule, so that every adorer can have a partner for scheduling back-up as well as safety during nighttime hours. If you are interested in this important facet of discipleship and are willing to make an hour s (or greater) commitment each week, please contact Mike Zwack, Holy Family s Perpetual Adoration coordinator, at Mike can also explain the process for requesting a substitute for times during the year when you are not able to be present for your adoration hour. Holy Family has a need for a second adorer at the following times: Sundays 5:00 a.m. 7:00 a.m. 8:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. Mondays Tuesdays 1 1 3:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. 10:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m. Wednesdays 1 1:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. Thursdays 1 7:00 p.m. 10:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m. Fridays 1 5:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. (Two or more adorers are needed for Fridays at 8pm) Saturdays 5:00 a.m. 8:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. 10:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m. 7
