3 Sunday Readings Pastoral Items PLEASE KEEP IN YOUR PRAYERS THIS WEEK S: 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time First Reading (Proverbs 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31) Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 128) Second Reading (1 Thessalonians 5:1-6) Gospel (Matthew 25:14-30) NEXT WEEK S: Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe First Reading Ezekiel energizes us by painting an image of God as one who looks after us like a shepherd. And in Israelite imagination the images of shepherd and king were closely connected, probably stemming from David the shepherd king. Ezekiel prophesied during the exile, a trauma that befell Israel in part because her kings had been false shepherds who led their people astray. So God assumes the role of shepherd and rescues the scattered, binds up the injured, and destroys the sleek and the strong. (Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17) Responsorial Psalm The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. (Psalm 23) Second Reading First came Adam and death, then came Jesus and Resurrection. Paul asserts, that just as we died with Adam, so we all live with Christ. For Paul, we begin to live our resurrection life here and now that we will enjoy in its fullness only after death when, at the second coming, Christ raises us all from our graves. (1 Corinthians 15:20-26, 28) Gospel This is a description of the last judgment with Jesus Christ as the great Shepherd; His story about the separation of goats and sheep must have unsettled His audience. In arid lands goats and sheep often grazed together during the day because green pasture was sparse. They were separated at night because goats needed shelter. Goats were also less docile and more restless than sheep. They came to symbolize evil and the expression scape-goat has become a common expression for someone bearing blame for others. Separation is an inevitable consequence of judgment. The Day of Judgment will reveal who showed true compassion and mercy toward their neighbor. Jesus teaches us a very important lesson about loving our neighbor and taking responsibility for others. God will judge us not only for the wrong we have done but also for what we have failed to do. (Matthew 25:31-46) The 10th Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner is just 4 days away!! If you are donating a turkey or ham this year, we will be collecting them after the 11:00AM Mass this Sunday, November 19th, in the Queen of Angels kitchen. A big THANK YOU to all for your continued support and generosity!! It has meant the world to me! If you and/or your family are interested in volunteering, it is not too late please call Reath at All are welcome to a Thanksgiving feast!! Thursday, November 23rd in the Gym Dinner will be served from 11:30A to 4:00P Come with your family and friends and enjoy a day of heartfelt thanks for all that God has blessed us with!
