3 Next Sunday s Readings Pastoral Items THIS WEEK S: Pentecost First Reading PLEASE KEEP IN YOUR PRAYERS (Acts of the Apostles 2:1-11) Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 104) Second Reading (1 Corinthians 12:3-7,12-13) Gospel (John 20:19-23) NEXT WEEK S: The Most Holy Trinity First Reading The mystery we call God is both near and distant; both frightening and familiar. Moses understands and reacts to both divine realities. In awed reverence he bows before the Lord; but, trusting in God s patience and restraint, he dares ask for forgiveness for his stiff necked people who have committed the great sin of idolatry. (Exodus 34:4-6,8-9) Responsorial Psalm Glory and praise for ever. (Daniel 3:52-55) Second Reading These three verses end the Second Letter to the Corinthians. Like the parting words of a great pastoral leader, they appeal for right behavior and for peace within the community. The final sentence is familiar to us as the celebrant s greeting at the start of Mass. Paul renders it as a parting blessing to strengthen his readers for the kind of life he has just exhorted them to live. The grace of. Jesus His saving love that brightened your dark moments; the love of God that creative, life-giving love that sustained you through hard times; and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit the Spirit s healing action in the community that resolved conflicts and brought together divergent points of view. This short passage can inspire hope that with God s help we can indeed mend our ways. (2 Corinthians 13:11-13) Gospel Here, Jesus speaks to Nicodemus and affirms the generosity of God s love as manifested in God s willingness to give His only Son. Although God s purpose in sending Jesus is not condemnation, but eternal life, some people choose not to accept Jesus, and by their decision bring condemnation on themselves. Yet God s plan in sending His Son is that the whole world may believe in Him, living in a loving and faithful relationship with Him. Such belief will result in eternal life, beginning here and now and extending beyond death into eternity; it is God s own life shared with believers. (John 3:16-18) Praises of Mary by Legion of Mary: "True devotion to the Blessed Virgin is constant. It strengthens us in good times, and makes us courageous in opposing the world, the flesh, and the devil. Those devoted to Mary live by the faith of Jesus and Mary, not the sentiments of nature." Please note that names will be removed from the prayer list after 30 days unless we hear from you otherwise. & St. Joseph Parishes Respect Life Group Spiritual Adoption Program MONTH 4: Developing Baby I had a dream today! Your little baby now weighs six ounces and has fingernails and eyelashes. Your baby has their own unique fingerprints, which will remain the same until death. The baby s taste buds are working and it s sense of hearing is developing and present at 14 weeks. There are no major developments anymore. At this point, rapid eye movements (REMs) can be detected a sign of dreaming. Your spiritually adopted baby is already well-formed, internally and externally. All the baby needs now is time to gain weight and grow strong. What a miracle! 3

5 St. Joseph Parish Life & Ministry News School News From the Principal s Desk St. Joseph Parish Direction for Our TimesMonthly Prayer Group The Lay Apostolate of Jesus Christ the Returning King is a movement in the Catholic Church. This movement calls people to a greater personal unity with Jesus Christ. The prayer group meets on the first Monday of each month at St. Joseph parish 6:30PM in the classrooms. Patricia's career at School began in She has gifted the students and this community with her love of the Catholic faith and knowledge of the arts & sciences. Her students and families will remember her passion for the outdoors and her dedication to service learning. In the words of one of her students, "Mrs. Frenette brightens up students' lives by teaching kids how to reach out to others." Thank you Patricia for your time, knowledge, energy, & grace. We also welcome at this time Mrs. Theresa Sekac who will return to School as a faculty member. Mrs. Sekac is coming from Forest Ridge School where she teaches math. Peace and Blessings, Ann Austin, Principal Music News Congratulations to all the students who participated in our 4th Annual Spring Concert held at the Port Angeles High School auditorium. This is truly one of my favorite nights of the year! The students sang and played their hearts out! I couldn t be more proud of these fine musicians. Thank you to all the families who helped move instruments before and after the concert. Special thanks to Curry Winborn for the musical arrangements and beautiful playing and to Amy Catterson for your dedication and support to our program! Our Music Program keeps growing and I am looking forward to see what next year has to offer. Miss Rinehart Parish Life & Ministry News 100th Anniversary of Fatima Pope Francis is offering a plenary indulgence during the Centennial of Our Lady of Fatima. One of the conditions is to visit, with devotion, a statue of Our Lady of Fatima solemnly exposed for public veneration in the church once a month from May to October The first opportunity will be Tuesday, June 13th, during regular business hours while the church is open. All are invited to take advantage of this unique spiritual benefit. The Archdiocese of Seattle s 15th Annual Quo Vadis Days will take place at Camp Don Bosco near Carnation, Washington on June 26-29, The camp is free due to the generous contributions of the Serra Club, Knights of Columbus, and private donors. Requirements: You must register online at: Please download and print a hard copy of the Health History and Permission Form to bring with you to camp. Make sure that a parent or legal guardian signs the registration form if you are under 18. Derek Lappe, seattle@qvdays.org Assist our Future Priests with Seminarian Aid Mass Cards We invite you to participate in the Seminarian Aid Mass Card Program in support of our future priests. You can request a Mass or Masses for your loved ones. Your loved ones will be enrolled in a year s worth of Masses celebrated by the Archbishop or his designee. Mass cards are perfect for all occasions: to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays, to say thank you or just thinking about you and to remember the deceased. Your donated Mass stipend will go directly into a fund to defray the educational costs of the men currently studying to become priests, estimated at approximately $30,000 per year per Seminarian. Intention envelopes and cards may be obtained in either parish office during regular business hours. Annual Catholic Appeal 2017 The Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) has begun. The support of every parish is crucial to the success of the Archdiocese and its many ministries and services. Each parish has been assigned a goal for this year s campaign: QA $61,007 & SJ $66,841 Beginning next month, Fr. Robb & Fr.
