3 GOD HAS A DIFFERENT PLAN We begin the season of Advent with a heartfelt call for our own repentance. We remember God's faithful love for us, and call upon God to help us to turn back. For "behold, you are angry, and we are sinful" (Isaiah 64:4). In the first reading and in the psalm, we recall God's promises and lament our unfaithfulness and our guilt. We call upon God's might and power in order to save us. With Isaiah, we ask God to "rend the heavens and come down, / with the mountains quaking before you" (Isaiah 63:19). Yes, God is faithful to us, because we are the work of God's hands. God is the potter, we are the clay. And yet, our concept of how God will come to save us is rooted in our own expectations of a warrior God who crushes mountains and thunders into our lives with great noise and glory. As always we are very thankful for your support. WIDENING OUR VISION In daily life, it s easy to simply focus on the here and now. Life can be complex and rapidly changing. It s often plenty for us just to get through the day. Yet it seems that in Luke s Gospel today, Jesus is asking his followers, and us too, to widen our focus and see a larger reality. We are asked to observe not only the routines of daily life, not only the large forces of history acting upon us, but also God bringing forth the birth of a new creation. Jesus asks us to see beyond today s troubles and watch God stirring up hope. We are to more truly see persons in need, those who experience violence, loss, or injustice. We are asked to see beyond the superficial during the Christmas shopping season, and to see Christ as ultimate Gift and gift-giver. Los Padres afirmaron que «una de las mayores pobrezas de la cultura actual es la soledad, fruto de la ausencia de Dios en la vida de las personas y de la fragilidad de las relaciones. Asimismo, hay una sensación general de impotencia frente a la realidad socioeconómica que a menudo acaba por aplastar a las familias [...] Con frecuencia, las familias se sienten abandonadas por el desinterés y la poca atención de las instituciones. Las consecuencias negativas desde el punto de vista de la organización social son evidentes: de la crisis demográfica a las dificultades educativas, de la fatiga a la hora de acoger la vida naciente a sentir la presencia de los ancianos como un peso, hasta el difundirse de un malestar afectivo que a veces llega a la violencia. El Estado tiene la responsabilidad de crear las condiciones legislativas y laborales para garantizar el futuro de los jóvenes y ayudarlos a realizar su proyecto de formar una familia» Papa Francisco N. 43 Primer Domingo de Adviento Para nosotros, los cristianos, no hay sentido del tiempo sino en Jesucristo. Él es el centro de la historia y de los corazones. La historia tiene en él su punto de partida (Cristo es el alfa) y su punto de llegada (Cristo es la omega). El tiempo y la historia culminan en Él, alcanzan en Él su plenitud absoluta y su sentido supremo. Sin Jesucristo el tiempo y la historia son sólo un puro accidente. Con Cristo, son un designio de Dios, una historia de salvación, un yunque en el cual forjar nuestra decisión en la libertad y responsabilidad. Para nosotros el tiempo no es una simple sucesión de segundos, minutos y horas; una cadena de días meses y años; una sucesión y una cadena sin rumbo fijo, a la deriva de fuerzas impersonales dominadoras que llevan al caos. Para nosotros, el tiempo con sus siglos y milenios es una historia, dirigida y timoneada por Dios; para nosotros, el tiempo tiene un principio de unidad y armonía, de coherencia y cohesión, no en los imperios o en las ideologías, tan caducos como los mismos hombres, sino en Jesucristo, que es de ayer, de hoy y de siempre. Nuestra vida diaria con sus tópicos, su monotonía, sus mismas vulgaridades, forma parte de un proyecto divino, es una tesela dentro del gran mosaico de la historia de la salvación planeada por Dios. En el sentido del tiempo está incluido inseparablemente el sentido de mi tiempo. No da esta realidad de nuestra fe un gran valor a la vida de cada cristiano, a tu vida? 7 Lecturas del próximo domingo La Palabra de Dios viene a la historia, se encarna en Jesús de Nazaret para hablarnos de salvación. En el Evangelio la cita de Isaías ha sufrido un cambio significativo: en lugar de "todos verán la gloria de Dios" san Lucas dice: "Todos verán la salvación de Dios". En la Navidad, los cristianos, todos los hombres de buena voluntad, vemos esa salvación de Dios. En la Navidad resuena una Palabra de salvación. Digamos mejor: es la única Palabra que resuena en esa noche santa. Estamos muy acostumbrados por la historia a dividir a los hombres en buenos y malos, en conservadores y progresistas, en de izquierda y derecha, en bandos e ideologías. La Palabra de Dios parece pasar por encima de todas esas divisiones. La Palabra de Dios no divide, une a todos en el anhelo y en la gozosa posesión de la salvación, que Dios nos manda encarnada en un Niño. Dios quiere que su Palabra de salvación sea eficaz en nuestros días y en nuestras vidas. Dios nos impulsa a que dejemos obrar eficazmente su Palabra de salvación. Qué obstáculos encuentro en mi vida y en mi ambiente? Qué hago o qué puedo hacer para que la Palabra de Dios sea viva y eficaz en mí y en mis hermanos? Se va a casar? Felicidades, recuerde que son 6 meses de preparación antes de la boda.
