Sorry, no babysitting is available. CONSTRUCTION NEWS The Christoph Paccard Bell Foundry has notified the parish that all three bells have been successfully cast and the molds removed. Therefore, workers at the foundry will soon begin the polishing process as well as the development of the electromagnetic strikers. Although it will be a while before the bells are delivered and installed in the bell chamber, this is a significant milestone in the bell creation process. The foundry videotaped the casting process and will make a copy of this tape available to the parish at a future date. Detailed drawings of the St. John Vianney statue submitted to the parish by Albl Oberammergau were approved. Consequently, the firm has progressed into the production stage of this project. The statue, which will be placed in a shrine in the southwest corner of the church building, is being carved of linden wood. Linden wood, a pale white to light brown colored soft, light weight wood, is considered ideal for carving. To avoid cracking, pressure must be kept out of the wood. In this case, this will be accomplished, by cutting the wood into four-inch slices; gluing the slices back together and then, keeping the wood slices in heavy clamp bars for 48 hours. After this process is completed, the wood will be roughly shaped with an electric saw. Then, hand carving will begin. Albl has also initiated production of the Corpus which, like the statue, is being constructed of linden wood and undergoing a similar process. The cost of a brick is now $250. After January 31, the cost will be $350 because the bricks will need to be engraved on-site after installation. Order forms can be found in the Corpus Christi Center, on the church website, and occasionally in the church bulletin. We can accept checks, cash, and credit cards. Spread the news! If you know any past parishioners that have moved out of the area, tell them about our commemorative brick walkway. They may wish to be remembered in this way. Place your order early so your brick will be installed in Phase 1. Your commemorative brick is a wonderful opportunity to leave a lasting legacy at St. John Vianney Church. Bricks can be engraved with your name, or to honor or remember an important person, event, family, accomplishment, or donated as a special gift.
