Today is Laetare Sunday, and today, the Church asks us to rejoice! From Fr. Larry s (This theme comes from the introit to today s Mass, which reads, Rejoice, O Jerusalem: and Desk... come together all you who love her: rejoice with joy, you who have been in sorrow: that you may exult, and be filled from the breasts of your consolation. I rejoiced at the things that were said to me: we shall go into the house of the Lord. Glory be to the Father! ) So, today at Mass, things should seem a little different the priest might be wearing a rose-colored vestment, there might be flowers adorning the sanctuary, and the music ADORATION OPPORTUNITIES might be more joyful. Location Day Time Today, we re asked to take a brief break from our Madonna Friday 8:30am-9:30am somber Lenten observances and spend some time thinking Friday (4/12) 6:00pm-7:00pm about exactly what it is that we re preparing for. We re Saturday 4:30pm-5:30pm asked to turn our thoughts toward the Paschal joy that we ll celebrate in just a few weeks, and to begin anticipating our Easter celebration. So, rejoice a little, today! St. Maurice Sacred Heart Friday Thursday Friday (4/5) 2:30pm-4:00pm 7:00pm-8:00pm 6:00pm-7:00pm Blessings, Fr. Larry Word of God Thursday 8:30am-9:30am Sunday 8:00am-9:00am

3 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS Today at the 10AM Mass, our three elect (our catechumens who celebrated the Rite of Election last Sunday at the Cathedral, and who are now called The Elect ) are taking part in the Second Scrutiny. A scrutiny is a rite celebrated during the Mass, specifically after the homily on the third, fourth and fifth Sundays in Lent. They are meant to uncover, then heal all that is weak in the hearts of the elect and then strengthen all that is upright, strong and good. The priest will bless them during the rite and their sponsors are there to encourage and support their journey. Please pray for our elect and our candidate as they continue to learn about our faith on their journey to receiving the Sacraments of Initiation in the Catholic Church. Mission Week Testimony: My group went to the Sisters of St. Joseph s in Baden to help with weeding and other outdoor work. The main director that led the outdoor work was driven by God in his job, which inspired me to live my faith a little bit more. After we finished our work each day, we were able to relax and socialize back at the SNPJ property where we stayed. All in all, the week was a very good time to become more active in my faith and to be around people just like me. -Gregory Parrish MS & HS: Service at Fish Fry Take-Out Table, all Fridays in Lent, 2:30 PM 7 PM: Keane Hall. On March 20 thousands of Illinois citizens gathered at the state capital in Springfield, Il to alert our House and Senate members that we strongly object to the bills that are being proposed. The bills would make abortion a fundamental right in the State, undermine women s health, attack conscience rights, require all insurance plans subject to State regulations to cover abortions and expand public funding of abortion, not to mention repeal the Parental Notice of Abortion Act. These bills, if passed, will make Illinois one of the most pro-abortion states in the union. There would be no rights for pro-life citizens in any way. Anna Rae
