Then 'Justice and Peace Scotland' speaks of 'modern slavery From the Aberdeen Diocese Magazine The Light of the North we hear a little about the Abbe Paul MacPherson, then the contrasting poem Elijah - by Stephen Eric Smyth - and Psalm 83 Night Prayer is led by Joe Docherty with the St Mungo Singers and Cantor Noel Donnelly Book Club Members met on Thursday night to discuss Henri Nouwen's book Discernment. We agreed it was a challenging book which would benefit from being read again at leisure to get the full benefit, but it made us think about the instances in our own lives where God may be speaking to us. We also felt that we often do not make time in our busy lives for hearing the voice of God. Our next book will be Jean Vanier's Life's Great Questions and our meeting will be on 23 March at Anne Marie McKirdy's house. Sacraments Parents presenting children for First Confession met to discuss preparations for First Confession and chose the date the Catholic Education Sunday, 12 th February. Next Sunday marks the start of a week when we celebrate the importance of educating children and young people in faith. Scottish Catholic Medical Association. The annual White Mass will be held at St. Mary s Cathedral, Edinburgh, on Sunday 12 th February at 12 Noon. Archbishop Leo Cushley will preside. Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: Our joint ecumenical Morning Prayer (marking the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity) took place at Sherbrook St Gilbert s at Thanks to all who were able to be present 6

7 Glasgow Churches Together : the Committee is made up of representatives from the churches of Glasgow. It met last week and, among other things, it reviewed the events of the past quarter : St Andrew s Day, the Blessing of the Crib in George Square, Carols for Peace, the Watchnight Service at Glasgow Cathedral, the St Mungo Festival (the St Mungo Medieval Vespers, Mungo s Bairns, schools welcomed to Glasgow Cathedral, the St Mungo Mass, The exhibition and facsimile display at the Vita Kentigerni in the Mitchell Library, the St Mungo Festival Service, and the Molendinar Lecture.) and the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. It discussed radioalba.org christian, the ecumenical website, the possibility of the World Council of Churches meeting in Glasgow, the importance of the regular meetings of church leaders, etc and it looked ahead to the annual Glasgow the Welcoming City event held in the City Chambers in June. Angela McMenamin died the other day. Her funeral takes place at St Helen s, Langside on Wednesday morning at James McGarry of Fotheringham Rd has died. Fr Paul Morton will preside at the Mass in St Leo s at on Monday. Mrs Roslyn Beattie has died. Her Funeral will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes, Cardonald, with the vigil at 6.30 on Monday evening and the Mass at on Tuesday. 7
