We still need $80,000 to achieve our goal of $285,000. If you have not yet made a gift, please do so today. Pledge cards are still available in the pews or you may make your gift online. Help us provide the opportunity to meet the needs of those within our parishes and beyond to encounter the Living Christ. Together in Love That Gives Hope, we can support the work of over 70 agencies and ministries across the Diocese. Together we can provide seminarian education, a safe home for mothers and newborns and a televised Sunday Mass to ill and homebound Catholics. These organizations shine the light of hope into the lives of thousands of people. Page 2 Thank you for your support! Beautiful Religious Art for Sale--April 13 & 14 Hand Carved in Bethlehem Enjoy browsing tables of beautiful religious wares (nativity sets, rosaries, statues, crucifixes, charms, etc.) after all masses on April 13 and 14. Tables will be located in the courtyard and in the Parish Hall. Valley resident Ayman Khair represents about 180 Christian families from Bethlehem. These families have been dependent upon sales of their hand-carved religious articles to tourists in the Holy Land. Due to the conflict in the Middle East, tourism has been restricted. In order to survive, they are relying on Christian communities in the United State to purchase their articles. These hand-carved religious articles are unique. Carved from the wood of the sacred olive tree, this workmanship is a tradition that has been handed down by these families for hundreds of years. It is hoped that through the efforts of Mr. Khair, these families will have sufficient income to continue living in the Holy Land, wehre the Christian populations has dropped from 22% to less than 2% in the last 30 years. OLOJ NEEDS HELP ON EASTER SUNDAY! We need volunteers to help direct parking and serve as ushers on Easter Sunday when we will have throngs of visitors to welcome. Hours for this duty range from 5:45 am to 11 am. Sign up for the time that works for you and still join your family for mass. Teens are encouraged to volunteer for service hours! 3 Youth Ministry Corner (Being) Catholic Matters David Lins, Director of Faith Formation This past Thursday, I turned 45 years old. I m pretty sure this earns me full admission to the Midlife Crisis Club. Life Teen Schedule: March 31st: Life Teen at the movies April 7th: Life Teen April 14th & 21st: NO Life Teen April 28th: Life Teen End of the Year Party! ALL are welcome & bring a friend! Contact Katherine Lahera for more information. EDGE Schedule April 3rd: EDGE (confessions) April 10th: EDGE end of the year party! STAY TUNED: For EDGE & Life Teen SUMMER EVENTS! It is never too late to check out our junior high and high school ministries. ANY teens are welcome ANY time! Life Teen celebrated St. Patrick s Feast day with great friends & food! There also was a grand prize winner of a DUTCH BROS gift card! Join us next time! klahera@oloj.org (No. I did not buy a red convertible.) Life is already beginning to throw several mortality reminders in my direction. New band names sound completely made up. ( Hey mom! Can I go see Ziplock Baggy G in concert? ) I m struggling through some major sciatic nerve symptoms. And have you noticed I shave my head? That is necessity, not fashion. All this has got me thinking about the prodigal son. He didn t want to wait for his inheritance. Life is short and he knew it. Give me what I want, dad. He had places to go and abundance to experience. His father gave him what he asked for, including his freedom. In the end, most of us know what happened. The son came home and begged for forgiveness. He didn t even feel worthy to be treated as a son. He asked only that his father treat him like one of his slaves. His father had none of that. In Luke 15:22-24, we read the father s reaction. But the father said to his servants, Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. So they began to celebrate. It s ironic. What the son was in such a hurry to experience was right there the whole time. The father wanted him to have it. We only have so much time. Let s stop searching everywhere other than the one place that can truly give us what our heart desires. Our Father is waiting to give it to us in abundance. Questions? Comments? David at dlins@oloj.org Page 3

4 Our Lady of Joy Faith Formation From time to time, the Faith Formation department will begin to include quotes from saints, great Catholic minds, early Church fathers, Church documents or the Catechism. We hope these aid you in your spiritual walk. Zeal that is not tactful will hurt instead of help souls. People do not like loud, dictatorial zeal; It antagonizes and renders them stubborn. Kindly tact that knows when to speak and when to be silent, if persevered in, wins every time. Servant of God Mother Mary Teresa Tallon Fishers of Souls Page 9 (Foundress of Sr. Mary Eileen and Sr. Margery s community, Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate) Did You Know? R.C.I.A. stands for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. At Our Lady of Joy, this program meets during the school year on Thursday nights from 6:30PM-8:00PM in Room 3 of the Parish Hall. It is for those wishing to become Roman Catholic or complete the Sacraments of Initiation. Please pray for those who will be receiving sacraments in the next few weeks! The Easter Vigil will be amazing! Fr. Jess has requested that parishioners consider seeing the new film Unplanned, opening in theaters this weekend. As one of the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic directors in the nation, Abby Johnson was involved in upwards of 22,000 abortions and counseled countless women on their reproductive choices. She became a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood, fighting to enact legislation for the cause she so deeply believed in. Until the day she saw something that changed everything. Keep in mind this film is rated R and is not for children. Family Chat Question for the dinner table: When listening to the story of the Prodigal Son (feel free to reread Luke 15:11-32 and explain to little ones), what stands out to you? A) The younger son asking for Forgiveness B) The older son s frustration C) The forgiveness of the father Page 4
