4 From the Director of Advancement Cambridge, MA On behalf of St. Peter School, I would like to thank everyone who attended or supported this year s Sixteenth Annual Gala and Auction fundraiser, held on March 9th. I especially want to thank our sponsors and donors for their overwhelming support. Their generosity is a tribute to the commitment to Catholic education provided every day by St. Peter School. A special thanks to the parents, faculty, Fr. O Malley, and the staffs of St. Peter School and Parish, all of whom contributed to the event s success. Harrington, SJ Scripture Lecture Presented by Angela Harkins, Ph.D. Sunday, March 31, 6:15 p.m., Parish Center Jesus Prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane Dr. Angela Harkins is an associate professor at the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. She was born in Seoul, South Korea, and educated at Loyola University, Chicago and the University of Notre Dame, where she received her M.A. and a Ph.D. in Christianity and Judaism in Antiquity. Dr. Harkins has published extensively on the topic of prayers, emotions, and religious experience in early Jewish and Christian texts. She is currently working on a long- term project on religious experience and the early Christian text known as the Shepherd of Hermas. This lecture will look at the various Gospel accounts of Jesus prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. Please join us in the Parish Center on Sunday, March 31, at 6:15 p.m. Pope Lent is a reminder to stop, to return to the essential, to fast from all that is superfluous and distracting. It is a wake-up call for the spirit. March 16, 2019 How do we not judge, not condemn, and forgive? "Give and it will be given to you." Be generous in giving. As a guide, we will read the beloved spiritual writer Henri Nouwen s personal reflection, The Return of the Prodigal Son. This is not a book club. For more information or to register for this event, please visit Silent Film Night: Christus With Live Musical Accompaniment Friday, April 12, 7:00 p.m., St. Peter Church Music Director Patrick Valentino provides live accompaniment for Christus, a 1914 silent film, on St. Peter s historic 1861 Hook organ. Christus tells the story of Jesus life from the Annunciation to the Ascension, and is presented in color a task painstakingly completed by nuns in the 1920s, who hand-painted each of its 200,000 frames. This will be a memorable event! Do You Love to Sing? Join Our Family Choir for Lent 5 Third Sunday of Lent An exciting musical opportunity awaits you! For the Sundays of Lent we invite families who like to sing to join our Choir at the 9:00 a.m. Family Mass, beginning March 10. Everyone is welcome. No experience is needed, just a joy for singing. Practice begins at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning and then we sing at the 9:00 a.m. Family Mass. Join Our Adult Easter Choir Have you thought about being in the choir, but cannot make a lengthy commitment? If so, please join our Adult Easter Choir, which provides music for our liturgical celebrations during Holy Week. Palm Sunday, Saturday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 14 at 11:30 a.m. Holy Thursday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m. Easter Vigil, Saturday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the church, on March 20, 27, April 3, April 10, and 17. Divine Mercy The Second Greatest Story Ever Told Five Sundays Beginning March 10 1:00-2:30 p.m., Parish Center The Augustine Institute has put together an amazing visual presentation of one of the greatest stories ever told, based on the book Divine Mercy: The Second Greatest Story Ever Told, by Fr. Michael Gaitley, M.I.C. You will experience the drama and splendor of God s merciful love revealed in Sacred Scripture, manifested at key moments of Church history. This series of 10 DVDs is fast-paced and covers a lot of history. From the epic story of Poland's national suffering, to the events of Fatima, the revelation of St. Faustina, the heroic efforts of St. Maximilian Kolbe, and the life of St. John Paul II, the panorama of Divine Mercy is fully revealed as a transformative reality.
