Eucharistic Adoration: Eucharistic Adoration on the First Friday of the month, beginning with the 8:30 am Mass and concluding with a Divine Mercy Holy Hour and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 3:00 pm. Novena Services: Miraculous Medal Novena and the Saint Teresa Novena, with veneration of the relic of Saint Teresa, every Monday following the 8:30 am Mass. Novena service every Monday evening at 7:30 pm with Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Baptisms: Every Sunday of the month 1:30 pm following the 12:30 pm Mass. Parents are asked to contact the rectory and schedule an appointment with one of the parish priests to make arrangements for the celebration of the Sacrament and to register for the Baptism preparation class. Marriages: Please contact the rectory at least one year in advance of the wedding to schedule an appointment with one of the parish priests. Participation in the Marriage Preparation Program offered by the Archdiocese of New York, along with Natural Family Planning classes, is required. To register for Marriage Preparation sessions, contact the Family Life / Respect Life website at Parish Membership: New parishioners are warmly welcomed. Those already enrolled in the school, CCD Program, sports or other parish activities are not automatically registered in our parish. Please stop by the parish office or call for a membership form. It is important that all parishioners are registered. 3 May 21, 2017 Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Teresa Church, Please plan to come to Mass this week as we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord Jesus into Heaven. Where He has gone, we hope to follow! Our Mass schedule will be: Wednesday at 4:00pm, Thursday at 7:00am, 8:30am, 12 Noon, and 7:30pm. A special joy for those at the 8:30 Mass will be to see the Crowning of our statue of the Blessed Mother. Our school community will be present, and the children who made their First Holy Communion will be taking leading roles in their Communion dresses and suits. Many people have been asking for Father John Kallattil. He will be back with us this week after a visit to his family in India and a congregational meeting that he had to attend. Father is a member of a religious order - the Vincentian Congregation and he was a delegate to their chapter. And this week Father Jean-Marie Uzabakiriho will be going home to visit his family in Rwanda and make a spiritual retreat there. Ordained for our Archdiocese in 2015 at St. Patrick's Cathedral, this Tuesday will be Father Jean-Marie's second anniversary of priesthood. He will be celebrating the 8:30 Mass that day. Please include all of us priests, deacons, and bishops in your prayers. As you know, our Deacon Phillip Maroon is retiring from active ministry for health reasons. I tried to persuade him to let us give a reception for him and provide an opportunity for our parishioners to express their appreciation. But people were not surprised that Deacon Phil respectfully declined. He explained in a beautiful note that I will share with you: "Thank you, but I am in no need of any further recognition of my 27 years of deaconate service to the people of St. Rita and St. Teresa Churches. I could not ever be happier than I am now recalling all the fond memories of kindness and thoughtfulness all the parishioners exhibited to myself and family through the years. They will each remain in our prayers forever." So we have to honor the Deacon's wishes in this matter, but he deserves the applause and appreciation of all of us for many years of dedicated ordained ministry as a Deacon of the Catholic Church. Happily, Deacon Phil and his wife Kathy are remaining here with us, and the people of both St. Rita and St. Teresa parishes will be seeing them often. Becoming a priest or a deacon is a vocation: a calling from God. It is probably doubted and resisted at first! But then the feeling is acknowledged, and brought to a priest or spiritual director for reaction. If this seems to be what God wants, and if the person is thought to have the necessary qualities and abilities, then his possible vocation to a permanent, life-long ministry to serve Jesus and people begins to be tested and evaluated. This is done by family and community, and by official representatives of the Church. All this happens year by year - and many candidates are politely excused from proceeding - before the grace of Holy Orders is eventually given by the laying-on of hands by a Bishop. Having said that, I am happy to remind you that a member of our parish began that process with me, and is now in the Deacon Formation Program. In fact, he has finished his first two years of discernment and study. He has three more years to go. Dr. Jonathan Reyes, a longtime member of our parish, travels to St. Joseph Seminary in Yonkers for evening classes twice a week, and fulfills other obligations there. With his wife Macrina, he shares in our RCIA program for people who want to join our church, and I see him helping in our food pantry. Jonathan and Macrina are the parents of three young adults who are also in the medical field. In my judgment, we are blessed to have an extraordinarily good candidate to serve God and our parish as a deacon. So please put him and all seminarians and deacon-candidates in your prayers. This Sunday in our bulletin, I need to make another appeal to our parishioners to help others in need through the CARDINAL S STEWARDSHIP APPEAL. On an inside page we have a sheet you can tear off and use to make your once a year contribution to this vey good cause. Please participate; please send whatever you can give. Finally, let me share with you information in a letter I wrote this week to our school families. As the weather is getting hotter, we all have an interest in knowing about the progress of plans for air-conditioning Conran Hall and our school classrooms. In a nutshell, while we began working with an electrical engineering company months ago to assess our needs and prepare to bring more electrical power into our building, that part has to be done by Con Ed. They should be telling us soon when they can schedule that. When we have power, we can install units. We will proceed as rapidly as possible with all the other players in this big construction project. Our air-conditioning is coming, but it is not here yet. Msgr. William Belford - 3

They will renew their vows at the 10:00 Mass. Our Holy Name Society will prepare and serve breakfast to our Anniversary Couples and their families in Conran Hall. Our wonderful 10AM Children's Liturgy will take a summer break after the 10AM Mass today, and will return in September. ANNUAL BAKE SALE May 27 & 28 As they do each year, Dominican Sisters will be selling homemade bread, brownies and a variety of delicious fruit pies before and after Masses next Sunday. All proceeds from this sale will be used to buy medical supplies for poor people in their missions. Come celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Cross Road Foundation at their 4th Annual Garden of Life Brunch and Fundraiser The event will be held on Sunday, June 11 at the Excelsior Grand (2380 Hylan Blvd.) from 11:00 Am- 1Pm Tickets are $30 per person, and reservations can be made by mail to P.O.
