2 Page PRAYER Behold, one is coming after me; I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet. ACTS 13:25 Stewardship is a lifestyle, it s not a program or a process. It s how we are called to live our lives twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week! It challenges us to live God-centered lives, not self-centered lives. Reflect on your daily activities, do you do them for the glory of God? PARTICIPATION Are you being called to participate in one of the administrative ministries, such as Parish Leadership Council, Finance Council, Stewardship Committee or Media & Marketing? Would you be interested is starting a Legacy Committee? Please contact the parish office at or ContactUs@stmarys-wbl.org. St. Mary of the Lake White Bear Lake, MN Follow-up on Abuse Settlement and Voluntary Parish Contribution As I mentioned in my homily at all the Masses on the weekend of June 2-3 and detailed in my bulletin column of June 9-10, St. Mary of the Lake will make a voluntary contribution to the fund to assist victims abused by priests and others representatives of the Church. We are not making this gift because we have been assessed (taxed) by the archdiocese nor has the archbishop requested we make such a gift. Rather, we are making this voluntary gift as a matter of justice to the victims, to avoid additional litigation and to protect the interests of the parish. The voluntary parish contribution will come from our parish endowment fund not from Sunday contributions, not from a special collection, not from capital campaign gifts, and not from any other restricted gifts. The parish endowment was created in 1992 and consists of gifts specifically given to the endowment fund by a donor (donor designated) and gifts given to the parish with no restriction and directed to the endowment by the pastor (board designated). Our independent auditors examined our endowment fund several years ago and categorized gifts made to the endowment fund as either donor designated or board designated. Donor designated cannot and will not be used in the settlement. Board designated can be used for any purpose, even though previously designated for the endowment fund. The auditors confirmed that the pastor can "undo" the designation of the previous pastor and redesignate board designated gifts. After consultation with the finance council, the trustees and I decided to redesignate some of those board designated gifts and use those gifts for this settlement. Our voluntary donation to the settlement will only be made once the settlement is approved by the bankruptcy court and the parish is given a channeling injunction, barring any future suit against the parish for past abuse. I hope this answers the questions regarding the purpose, the source, and reason for the voluntary contribution to the settlement fund. If you have other questions, please call me or me. Homework Assignment from Last Week s Homily In my homily last weekend, I referenced the Before I Die blackboard on 3 rd and Bald Eagle and encouraged everyone to prayerfully complete the following sentences: 1. Before the end of the summer, I will Before the end of the year, I will Before I die, I will... How is God calling you (and your family) to complete these sentences in ways that make you better disciples of Jesus? Peace, Fr. Talbot

Please schedule your appointment now at or call red-cross. If you would like to volunteer to help with the blood drive, please contact Paul Kadera at FROM THE CATHOLIC BISHOPS The Department of Homeland Security has recently acknowledged the policy of separating families arriving at the U.S./Mexico Border. Most Reverend Joe S. Vasquez, Bishop of Austin and Chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Migration, issued the following statement in response: Forcibly separating children from their mothers and fathers is ineffective to the goals of deterrence and safety and contrary to our Catholic values. Family unity is a cornerstone of our American immigration system and a foundational element of Catholic teaching. Children are a gift from the Lord, the fruit of the womb, a reward. (Psalm 127:3) Children are not instruments of deterrence but a blessing from God. Please pray for a just resolution to this situation JUST BOOKS SERIES MOVIE In our on-going series marking Pope Francis Year of the Migrant, St. Mary s Social Justice committee is hosting the film, A Better Place. The film "A Better Life", directed by Chris Weitz, opens an immigration story being lived by people throughout the country. Set largely in East Los Angeles, Carlos, an undocumented immigrant and his American-born son, struggle to find a way to live with dignity in a sometimes hostile environment. Through joy and tears, this story unfolds in a way that explores the complex realities of migration. Come and join the conversation on July 11 in the St. Joseph Room.
