The altar itself sits directly atop the rock where Jesus blessed the bread and fish.

Holy Trinity chanters, choir members, altar servers, ushers, etc., are invited to join in those respective functions. So that everyone s stewardship commitments will continue, uninterrupted, please label checks or cash for St. George or Holy Trinity, and it will be directed to the right parish. As there are NO CHURCH SCHOOL classes today, children should sit with their parents and come to Communion with them. An usher will dismiss your row from the center aisle. Then return to your place by a side aisle for the prayers of thanksgiving and the final blessing and dismissal. Please let choir members pass when they come down for Communion. Hasten to us with intercessions, O Theotokos, who dost ever intercede for those who honor thee. SCRIPTURE LESSONS Prokeimenon (Tone 7; Psalm 28.11, 1 LXX) The Lord will give strength to His people. Verse: Bring to the Lord, O sons of God, bring to the Lord honor and glory. From St. Paul s 1 st Epistle to the Corinthians ( ; 8 th Sunday after Pentecost) BRETHREN, I appeal to you by the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no dissensions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. For it has been reported to me by Chloe s people that there is quarreling among you, my brethren. What I mean is that each one of you says, I belong to Paul, or I belong to Apollos, or I belong to Cephas, or I belong to Christ. Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, lest anyone should say that you were baptized in my name. (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, lest the Cross of Christ be emptied of its power. Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew ( ; 8 th Sunday of Matthew) AT THAT TIME, when Jesus went ashore He saw a great throng; and He had compassion on them, and healed their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to Him and said, This is a lonely place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the

5 villages and buy food for themselves. Jesus said, They need not go away; you give them something to eat. They said to Him, We have only five loaves here and two fish. And Jesus said, Bring them here to Me. Then He ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; and taking the five loaves and the two fish He looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children. Then Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowds. You can also contact Thelma Hoover at (317) READING FROM THE SYNAXARION On July 22 in the Holy Orthodox Church, we commemorate the holy and glorious Myrrh-bearer Mary Magdalene, the Equal to the Apostles. Verses With immaterial touch, Mary doth touch Thee, To Whom, O Christ, Thou saidst Touch Me not aforetime. On the twenty-second Mary Magdalene shut her eyes. She was born in the town of Magdala along the shore of Lake Gennesaret from the tribe of Issachar. She was tormented by seven evil spirits from which the Lord Jesus freed her and made her whole. Mary Magdalene stood beneath the Cross on Golgotha and grieved bitterly and mourned with the All-Holy Theotokos. When the Lord arose, she saw Him on two occasions: once alone and the other time with the other myrrhbearing women. She traveled to Rome and appeared before Emperor Tiberius Caesar and presenting him with a red colored egg, greeted him with the words: Christ is Risen! At the same time, she accused Pilate before Tiberius for his unjust condemnation of the Lord Jesus. Tiberius accepted her accusation and transferred Pilate from Jerusalem to Gaul where, this unjust judge, in disfavor with the emperor, died of a dread disease. After that, Mary Magdalene returned from Rome to Ephesus and joined John the Theologian, whom she assisted in the work of preaching the Gospel. She died peacefully and, according to tradition, was buried in the same cave of the Seven Young Sleepers of Ephesus. On this day, we also commemorate the Virgin-martyr Markella of Chios. By the intercessions of Thy Saints, O Christ God, have mercy upon us. Amen.

7 DORMITION FAST STARTS WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1 The Fast leading up to the Feast of the Dormition (repose) of the Mother of God runs from August Because of our great love for our Lord s Mother, Who has become our mother, and because our goal is to emulate her humility as the Handmaid of the Lord, the Church observes this fast quite strictly. We abstain from meat, fish and dairy products during this time. (Traditionally, we also abstain from oil and wine, except on the weekends.) The fasting is relaxed to allow for fish, wine and oil on the Feast of the Transfiguration, August 6, and on the feast of St. Herman of Alaska, August 9. As always, if you can t keep the fast to this level, do the most your health allows, and you are invited to contact Fr. Nabil for guidance. The first day of the Dormition Fast, August 1, is also the Feast of the Procession of the Holy Cross. Join us Wednesday, Aug. 1: Matins 9 am, Liturgy 10 am. We serve the Paraklesis at 6:30 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the fast. Please bring a list of the names of the sick or of any other living persons in need of prayer, to be remembered at the Supplication. We will also anoint those present with the myrrh that streamed from this icon in THE GREAT FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION As the Feast falls on a Monday this year, we will observe the Feast on Sunday, August 5. Bring with you to Sunday Matins/Liturgy grapes and/or other first fruits to be blessed, especially from your gardens. We always offer to God the first and best portion of everything, and through this first portion, He blesses everything else.
