10748 E. 116 th Street Fishers, Indiana Office: (317) Fax: V. Rev. Father Nabil L. Hanna, Pastor (317) V. Rev. Father Radoslav Filipovich, Attached (317) Rev. James A. Childs, Deacon (317) Joseph Hazar, Subdeacon, Pastoral Assistant (607) A Parish of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America JUNE 7, 2015 FEAST OF ALL SAINTS HIEROMARTYR THEODOTOS, BISHOP OF ANCYRA VENERABLE SEBASTIAN THE WONDER-WORKER VENERABLE CEDD, BISHOP OF ESSEX All the friends of my Lord do I praise; if any would, let them make mention of them all. David the Prophet and king, who revered the beloved of God, and respected them because of his great piety, said in the Psalms, How precious are Thy beloved unto me, O God (138:17). And the Apostle Paul, in his Epistle to the Hebrews, recounted the lives of the saints, when he wrote, Wherefore, seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin that so easily besets us; and let us run with patience the race that is set before us (12:1). Therefore, as Orthodox Christians, we honor the beloved saints of God, respecting them as keepers of God s commandments, shining examples of virtue and benefactors of humanity. We commemorate all of the holy ones every year on this day, as the list of saints ever increases, even though some of their names escape us. Nevertheless, we honor them for their piety and strive to imitate their good works. Synaxarion for Sunday of All Saints
PA RT I : L I T U RGY VA R I AT I O N S 3 RD ANTIPHON TROPARION OF THE RESURRECTION (TONE 8) From the heights Thou didst descend, O compassionate One, and Thou didst submit to the three-day burial, that Thou might deliver us from passion; Thou art our life and our Resurrection, O Lord, glory to Thee. ENTRANCE HYMN (TONE 2) Clergy: Come let us worship and fall down before Christ, save us, O Son of God, who art risen from the dead; People: who sing to Thee: Alleluia. Schedule of Regular Weekly Services Sundays: Matins, 8:50 AM Divine Liturgy, 10 AM Wednesdays: Vespers, 6:30 PM Saturdays: Great Vespers, 5 PM Confession: After Saturday Vespers See Calendar for Feast Days and Other Weekday Services Scheduled Order for Holy Communion Members of the Orthodox Church age seven and above must prepare for Holy Communion with a recent confession, prayer, fasting from all food and drink from midnight (unless medical condition preclude it), being in church before the Epistle and Gospel readings, and being at peace with everyone. As there are NO CHURCH SCHOOL classes today, children should sit with their parents and come to Communion with them. An usher will dismiss your row from the center aisle. Then return to your place by a side aisle for the prayers of thanksgiving and the final blessing and dismissal. Please let choir members pass when they come down for Communion. During Sunday Matins Or by Appointment A Warm Welcome to Our Guests We are glad you are worshipping with us. Please note that Holy Communion is limited to members of the Orthodox Church in good standing, who have prepared with prayer, fasting and confession. For all others though we cannot share Communion with you, since it is an expression of membership and full unity in faith you are welcome to come forward after the dismissal, receive a blessing and partake of the blessed bread (in the large bowls). Please also sign our guest book, and introduce yourself to Fr. Nabil during the coffee hour. You may inquire with him how you can become a member.
From the heights Thou didst descend Adorned in the blood of Thy Martyrs through-out all the world as in purple and fine linen, Thy Church, through them, doth cry unto Thee, O Christ God: send down Thy APOLYTIKIA AFTER THE ENTRANCE Troparion of the Resurrection (Tone 8) Troparion of All Saints (Tone 4) compassions upon Thy people; grant peace to Thy commonwealth, and great mercy to our souls. Troparion of St. George (Tone 4, Russian) As Deliverer of captives and Defender of the poor, Healer of the infirm, Champion of kings, victorious Great-Martyr George, intercede with Christ, our God, for our souls salvation. As first-fruits of our nature to the Planter of created things, * the world presenteth the God-bearing martyred Saints in off ring unto Kontakion of All Saints (Tone 8) Thee, O Lord. * Through their earnest entreaties, * keep Thy Church in deep peace and divine tranquility, * through the pure Theotokos, O Thou Who art greatly merciful. God is wonderful among His saints. Verse: Bless God in the congregations. SCRIPTURE LESSONS Prokeimenon (Tone 8; Psalm 67.35, 27 LXX) Reading from St Paul s epistle to the Hebrews (11:33-12:2; All Saints) BRETHREN, all the saints through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, received promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and scourging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were killed with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, illtreated of whom the world was not worthy wandering over deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And all these, though well attested by their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had foreseen something better for
us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfection of our faith. Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew (10:32-33, 37-38; 19:27-30; All Saints) THE LORD SAID TO HIS DISCIPLES, Everyone everything and followed Thee. What then who acknowledges Me before men, I also will shall we have? Jesus said to them, Truly, I acknowledge before my Father Who is in say to you, in the New World, when the Son of heaven; but whoever denies Me before men, I Man shall sit on His glorious throne, you who also will deny before My Father Who is in have followed Me will also sit on twelve heaven. He who loves father or mother more thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who And every one who has left houses or brothers loves son or daughter more than Me is not or sisters or father or mother or wife or worthy of Me; and he who does not take his children or lands, for My Name s sake, will cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. receive a hundred fold, and inherit eternal life. Then Peter said in reply, Lo, we have left But many that are first will be last, and the last first. COMMUNION HYMN (TONE 8; ALL SAINTS) Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just; praise becometh the upright. Alleluia. HOLY OBLATIONS AND PRAYER REQUESTS By Nahia Mesalam, for the health of George Mesalam, Beth Flaris, and Fr. Radoslav. 5 PA RT I I : A N N O U N C EMENTS PLEASE JOIN US FOR FELLOWSHIP AFTER THE LITURGY Today s coffee hour is hosted by our Welcome Committee. APOSTLES FAST BEGINS The Apostles Fast begins tomorrow, (June 8) and goes until the feast of Ss. Peter and Paul on June 29. The Apostles Fast always begins the day after All Saints Sunday (8 days after Pentecost). The date changes from year to year based on the date of Pascha. Everyone should talk to their Priest about how they should fast and what is appropriate for them to give-up. This fast takes place the day after All Saints day for a reason. We commemorate all the Saints, known and unknown, throughout all the world, the week after Pentecost as a fulfilment to the feast of Pentecost that the Holy Spirit received on Pentecost by the Apostles continues to work in those who have received Him, and enables them to become saints. In the same way, we fast during this season (until the feast of the heads of the Apostles, Peter and Paul on June 29), as a way to prepare ourselves, so that we may continue this spirit of apostleship, and prepare to become apostles ourselves, who have been graced with the gift of the Holy Spirit, and hope to become saints as those we commemorate today. NEW FACES RECEPTION TODAY After the Divine Liturgy today, our welcoming ministry team will host the coffee hour in honor of our new members and new faces from the past year. All new members or new faces (those who are considering joining the church, at any stage in the process): please pick up a carnation from one of the ushers at the candle stand in the narthex, as you come into Liturgy or go down to the fellowship hall afterwards. We ask all members of our parish to introduce yourselves to those wearing carnations whom you haven t had a chance to meet or greet and personally to welcome them to our wonderful church family. CHURCH LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP This is for everybody, but it is also a prerequisite for anyone to serve on the parish council. Join us at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 13, to learn more about the ministry of the Church and the work God has given us to do.
LADIES OF ST. GEORGE The Ladies of St. George will hold their monthly meeting today, during coffee hour. All women of our parish are invited. The Holy Trinity Philoptochos ( Friends of the Poor, their Ladies group) is inviting us to their annual luncheon on June 14 at 1:00 P.M. at the Mansion at Oak Hill on 116th and Hazel Dell in Carmel. The price is $30. Please let Vicki Mesalam (vemesalam@yahoo.com) know by June 1 if you will be able to attend. BUS TO AV CAMP We have arranged a bus to take our youth to AV Camp on June 14. We provide this service as an investment in our youth. Please confirm by sending a message to jh@stgindy.org whether or not your children will be riding the bus to and from camp. SPECIAL, EARLY LITURGY - 7:30 A.M. SUNDAY, JUNE 14 Before our youth depart for camp at the Antiochian Village we are holding special liturgy for campers, their parents and any early risers who would like to join at that hour. Then we ll have breakfast for our youth as they board the bus. We want to be moving by 9 am. NOTE: Services will also be held at the regular times: Matins at 9 a.m. and Liturgy at 10 a.m. on June 14. 7 ARCHDIOCESE CONVENTION DELEGATES The Archdiocese Convention will take place in Boston, July Besides Fr. Nabil, we can have six official delegates, and any others who wish are welcome to attend the meetings and the many edifying sessions and fellowship events. We give priority to parish council members to serve as delegates, then any other parishioners can be delegates on a first-comefirst-served basis. (Though we cannot pay delegates expenses, we will give you a letter that you can use to deduct expenses from your taxes.) See for details, and let Fr. Nabil know if you want to be a delegate. We would like to be especially well represented this year, as we need all our parishioners who attend to work the crowd and seek support for our bid to host the 2019 Archdiocese Convention here, at our church and the J.W. Marriott in downtown in Indianapolis. WORK DAY We would like to thank all who came and worked yesterday, in an effort to beautify our grounds for our neighbors and community, ourselves, but most of all, for God. As a community of God, we are to make the Temple and the grounds it is on as a paradise and haven, and this takes a lot of work. In addition to all of the work being done to offer our Lord the best we can offer, we thank all those who continue to support the building efforts financially, and thank everyone in their cooperation to keep the Church and grounds beautiful by not smoking anywhere on Church property, and to keep an eye on our Children when they are playing, so that they are not destructive to God s Holy House. TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS This past week, our young adults, ages 18-25, as well as our teens, ages 12-18, met at their respective meetings. The young adults were graciously hosted by the Nimri family as they had fellowship, a wonderful meal, and a spiritual discussion. The teens began their day with a service project at Third Phase shelter, where they helped with thrift shop. After that, they came back to the Church and had a SOYO meeting and elected new officers and participated in a spiritual discussion. They then participated in Vespers, shared a meal at the Castleton Mall foodcourt, and ended the night with some fun playing Laser Tag at X-Site. Congratulations to our newly elected SOYO officers, President Allison Tingwald, Vice-President Magdelina Kiritsis, Secretary Nathan Flaris, Treasurer Natalie Khamis, and Historian Jasmine Egly.
