THE FIRST ANTIPHON Shout with joy to God, all the earth, give thanks unto the Lord and call upon His Name. Declare His works among the nations. Refrain: Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Savior, save us. In the city of our God, in His holy mountain, His place hath been made in peace, and His dwelling in Zion. (Refrain)Glory Both now (Refrain) THE SECOND ANTIPHON The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwelling of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Refrain: Save us, O Son of God, Who art risen from the dead; who sing to Thee. Alleluia. God hath laid her foundation unto eternity. We have thought, O God, of Thy mercy in the midst of Thy people. 3 THE THIRD ANTIPHON Ready is my heart, O God, ready is my heart; I will sing and chant in my glory. What shall I render to the Lord for all that He hath given me? I will receive the cup of salvation, and call upon the Name of the Lord. In giving birth, you preserve your virginity; in falling-asleep thou hast not forsaken the world O Theotokos,; for living thou wast translated, being the Mother of Life. Wherefore, by thine intercessions, deliver our souls from death. THE EISODIKON (ENTRANCE HYMN) OF ORDINARY SUNDAYS Come, let us worship, and fall down before Christ. Save us, O Son of God, Who art risen from the dead; who sing to Thee. Alleluia. ~ After the Little Entrance (Eisodos), sing these Apolytikia in the following order. RESURRECTIONAL APOLYTIKION IN TONE SEVEN Thou didst shatter death by Thy Cross, Thou didst open paradise to the thief; Thou didst turn the sadness of the ointment-bearing women into joy. And didst bid Thine Apostles proclaim a warning, that Thou hast risen O Christ, granting to the world the Great Mercy. Wherefore, by thine intercessions, deliver our souls from death. ~ Do NOT sing the Troparion of the patron saint (St. Anthony). KONTAKION OF THE DORMITION IN TONE TWO Verily, the Theotokos, who is ever watchful in intercessions, who is never rejected, neither tomb nor death could control. But being the Mother of Life, He Who dwelt in her ever-virgin womb did translate her to life. THE EPISTLE (For the Dormition) My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior. He hath regarded the lowliness of His servant. The Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Philippians. (2:5-11) Brethren, have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, Who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. Therefore, God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the Name which is above every name, that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. THE GOSPEL (For the Dormition) The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (10:38-42; 11:27-28) At that time, Jesus entered a certain village; and a woman named Martha received Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord s feet and listened to His teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to Him and said, Lord, dost Thou not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me. But the Lord answered her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her. As He said this, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, Blessed is the womb that bore Thee, and the breasts that Thou didst suck! But He said, Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!

4 MEGALYNARION OF THE DORMITION IN TONE ONE All generations bless thee, O thou only Theotokos. In thee, O spotless Virgin, the laws of nature were suspended; for thy virginity was preserved in thy child-bearing, and Life is joined with death. Thou, O Theotokos, didst remain a Virgin after childbirth, and after death thou art still alive and dost ever deliver thy heritage. KOINONIKON (COMMUNION HYMN) OF THE DORMITION IN TONE EIGHT I will receive the cup of salvation, and call upon the Name of the Lord. Alleluia. ~ Post-Communion Hymn: We have seen the true light. THE DISMISSAL Priest: May He Who rose from the dead, Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His allimmaculate and all-blameless holy Mother whose Dormition and translation into the heavens we now celebrate by the might of the Precious and Life-giving Cross; by the protection of the honorable Bodiless Powers of Heaven; at the supplication of the honorable, glorious Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John; of the holy, glorious and all-laudable apostles; of our father among the saints, John Chrysostom, archbishop of Constantinople, whose Divine Liturgy we have now celebrated; of the holy, glorious and right-victorious Martyrs; of our venerable and God-bearing Fathers; of Saint Anthony, the patron and protector of this holy community; of the holy and righteous ancestors of God, Joachim and Anna, and of all the saints: have mercy on us and save us, forasmuch as He is good and loveth mankind. 5 Spiritual Message Here A Description of the Theotokos She is the ardent intercessor of her Son, Christ God, for all those who entreat her. She is the calm harbor of all those buffeted by waves, who rescues them from spiritual and fleshly waves. She is the guide on the way of life for all who have gone astray. She is the one who seeks converts those who are lost. She is the help and support of those who are afflicted. She is the intercessor and mediator of those who are penitent. And I will say even more than the above: She is the resurrection of the fallen Adam. She is the destruction of Eve's tears. She is the comforter of those who mourn. She is the throne of the king, who bears the One who bears all. She is the one who renews the old world. She is the ladder that reaches to heaven, by which God descended to the earth. She is the bridge that leads from earth to Paradise. She is the wonder of angels, and she is the wound of demons and their destruction. She is the root of the incorruptible shoot. 6 8th Sunday After Pentecost and The Dormition of The Theotokos This Sunday we are celebrating the Dormition of the Theotokos. I wanted to share this beautiful paragraph from St. Gregory Palamas' homily On the Dormition of Our Supremely Pure Lady Theotokos and Ever- Virgin Mary. If recompense is bestowed according to the measure of love for God, and if the man who loves the Son is loved of Him and of His Father and becomes the dwelling place of Both, and They mystically abide and walk in him, as it is recorded in the Master's Gospel, who, then, will love Him more than His Mother? For, He was her only-begotten Son, and moreover she alone among women gave birth knowing no spouse, so that the love of Him that had partaken of her flesh might be shared with her twofold. And who will the only-begotten Son love more than His Mother, He that came forth from her ineffably without a father in this last age even as He came forth from the Father without a mother before the ages'? 8 ABOUT COMMUNION We are happy that you have joined us today. Indeed, we pray for the unity of the Faith for the day when all of Christianity are united as ONE and can share a common Chalice. However, this is not the case as yet. The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist (Holy Communion) is offered only to Orthodox Christians who are in complete harmony with the Faith and prepared themselves through fasting and prayer.
