3 His Beatitude Patriarch JOHN X Meets His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican His Beatitude John X, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, met on Friday, September 27, with Pope Francis of the Roman Catholic Church at the Vatican in Rome. According to a report from Vatican Radio, "In his encounter with the Holy Father, the Patriarch spoke about the difficulties facing the Christian community in Syria and the surrounding region. He also talked about the plight of his own brother who was kidnapped last April, together with the Syriac Orthodox Bishop of Aleppo. The two leaders also shared their hopes for progress on the journey towards full Christian unity." His Beatitude was interviewed by Vatican Radio after his meeting with Pope Francis.

Thou led hades captive and wast not tempted thereby, Thou didst meet the virgin and didst give life to the world, O Thou who art risen from the. dead, O Lord, glory to Thee..... Entrance Hymn (Tone Two) O Come, let us worship and fall down before Christ. Save us, O Son of God, who art risen from the dead, who sing to Thee: Alleluia!! The Troparion of the Resurrection is repeated, as above, in Tone Four, after the Entrance of the Gospel.

6 Epistle for the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost O Lord, save thy people and bless thine inheritance! Unto thee have I cried, O Lord my God! The Reading is from Saint Paul s Second Letter to the Corinthians (4:6-15) Brethren, it is the God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," who has shown in our hearts the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For while we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you. Since we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, "I believed, and so I spoke," we too believed, and so we speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people, it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.!! (4:6-15) * *. *. * * * * * *.

7 Gospel of the Third Sunday of St. Luke The Reading of the Holy Gospel according to Luke (7:11-16) At that time, Jesus went to a city called Nain, and many of his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, Do not weep. And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And Jesus said, Young man, I say to you, arise. And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And Jesus gave him to his mother. 11 Cathedral News ATTENTION: PARKING RESTRICTION According to the regulation of the City of Coral Gables, no one is allowed to park their car on the grass lot behind the Church. Any car parked is subject to violation and will be towed. ~~~ ATTENTION: PLAYGROUND RESTRICTION The playground equipment at the school next door does not belong to St. George Cathedral. The equipment has been found to be damaged and the Church is liable. Please do NOT allow your children to enter that playground under any circumstances. ~~~ Thank you to the Officers and Members of The Fellowship of St. John the Divine (FSJD) for a job well done last Sunday on Fellowship Sunday.

12 REFLECTION Food for the Soul There is a legend of three trees that grew in the days of Christ. One said, When I grow to be a big tree I will be cut down and made into lumber. That lumber will be used to build a big hotel where kings will lodge. The second tree said, When I grow up I want to be cut down and made into lumber to build a big ship that will cross the ocean. The third tree said, When I grow up I want to remain in the forest and point men to God. None of the three trees got its wish. The first tree grew up and was cut down, but the lumber was used to build a little manger. The tree complained and complained, until one night the Son of God was born there. Then it was at peace. The second tree was cut down and made into lumber to build a boat to sail on the Sea of Galilee. It complained and complained, until one day the Son of God stood on its deck and spoke wonderful words of life. Then it was at peace. The third tree was cut down and made into a cross. The tree complained and complained, until one day the Son of God died upon that cross. Then it, too, was at peace. Whatever our lot in life, God can use us. Let us be willing to let Him use us according to His will.
