10748 E. 116 th Street Fishers, Indiana Office: (317) Fax: V. Rev. Father Nabil L. Hanna, Pastor (317) V. Rev. Father Radoslav Filipovich, Attached (317) Rev. James A. Childs, Deacon (317) Joseph Hazar, Subdeacon, Pastoral Assistant (607) A Parish of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America TONE 8 NOVEMBER 30, 2014 EOTHINON 3 THE HOLY APOSTLE ANDREW, THE FIRST-CALLED FRUMENTIOS, ARCHBISHOP AND ENLIGHTENER OF ETHIOPIA ALEXANDER, BISHOP OF METHYMNA St. Andrew is known as the first-called Apostle because he was first a disciple of St John the Baptist, but then when St John said, Behold the Lamb of God, pointing to Jesus, St Andrew went and followed Christ before any of the others. He was the brother of the Apostle Peter and son of Jonah. After Pentecost, it fell by lot, i.e. by the Holy Spirit, that St. Andrew should preach the Gospel in Byzantium. He preached and converted many to Christ in Byzantium (the town that would later become New Rome, a.k.a. Constantinople) and throughout Thrace, along the Danube and into Russia around the Black Sea, and in Epirus, Greece, and the Peloponnese, where he suffered and was crucified.

PA RT I : L I T U RGY VA R I AT I O N S 3 RD ANTIPHON: TROPARION OF THE RESURRECTION (TONE 8) From the heights Thou didst descend, O compassionate One, and Thou didst submit to the three-day burial that Thou mightest deliver us from passion. Thou art our Life and our Resurrection, O Lord, glory to Thee. From the heights Thou didst descend. APOLYTIKIA AFTER THE ENTRANCE Troparion of the Resurrection (Tone 8) Schedule of Regular Weekly Services Sundays: Matins, 8:50 AM Divine Liturgy, 10 AM Wednesdays: Vespers, 6:30 PM Saturdays: Great Vespers, 5 PM Confession: After Saturday Vespers See Calendar for Feast Days and Other Weekday Services Scheduled Order for Holy Communion Members of the Orthodox Church age seven and above must prepare for Holy Communion with a recent confession, prayer, fasting from all food and drink from midnight (unless medical condition preclude it), being in church before the Epistle and Gospel readings, and being at peace with everyone. CHILDREN going to church school and their teachers should come down the center aisle first. (Small children may need to be assisted by their parents.) ALL OTHERS should wait until an usher dismisses your row from the center aisle. Then return to your place by a side aisle for the prayers of thanksgiving and the final blessing and dismissal. Please let choir members pass when they come down for Communion. During Sunday Matins Or by Appointment A Warm Welcome to Our Guests We are glad you are worshipping with us. Please note that Holy Communion is limited to members of the Orthodox Church in good standing, who have prepared with prayer, fasting and confession. For all others though we cannot share Communion with you, since it is an expression of membership and full unity in faith you are welcome to come forward after the dismissal, receive a blessing and partake of the blessed bread (in the large bowls). Please also sign our guest book, and introduce yourself to Fr. Nabil during the coffee hour. You may inquire with him how you can become a member.

Troparion for St. Andrew (Tone 4) As the first-called of the Apostles and brother of their leader, O Andrew, entreat the Mater of all that peace be granted unto the world and great mercy to our souls. Troparion for St. George (Tone 4, Russian) As Deliverer of captives and Defender of the poor, Healer of the infirm, Champion of kings, victorious Great-Martyr George, intercede with Christ, our God, for our souls salvation. Kontakion of Preparation of Christ s Nativity (Tone 3) The Virgin cometh today to the cave to give birth, ineffably to bring forth the Word eternal. Therefore, rejoice, O earth at the message. With the angels and shepherds give glory to Him who shall appear by His own will as a young child, He who is from eternity God. SCRIPTURE LESSONS Their sound has gone forth into all the earth. Verse: The heavens declare the glory of God! Prokeimenon (Psalm 28.11, 1 LXX; Tone 7) Reading from St. Paul s First Epistle to the Corinthians (4.9-16; St. Andrew) BRETHREN, God has revealed us, the apostles, last of all, as those appointed to death; for we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men. We are fools for Christ s sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are glorified, but we are dishonored. Even to this present hour we both hunger and thirst, we are naked, and are buffeted, and are restless; and we labor, working with our own hands. While reviled, we bless; while persecuted, we endure; while blasphemed, we exhort; we have become the filth of the world and the off-scouring of all things, even until now. I do not write these things to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children; for though you have a myriad of tutors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for I begat you in Christ Jesus through the gospel. I beseech you, therefore, be imitators of me. Holy Gospel according to St. John ( ; St. Andrew) AT THAT TIME John was standing with two of his disciples; and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, Behold, the Lamb of God! The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, What do you seek? And they said to Him, Rabbi (which means Teacher), where art Thou

staying? He said to them, Come and see. They came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter s brother. He first found his brother Simon, and said to him, We have found the Messiah (which means Christ). He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, So you are Simon the son of Jonah? You shall be called Cephas (which means Peter). The next day, Jesus decided to go to Galilee. And He found Philip and said to him, Follow Me. Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathaniel, and said to him, We have found Him of Whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. Nathaniel said to him, Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come and see. Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! Nathaniel said to Him, How do you know me? Jesus answered him, Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you. Nathaniel answered Him, Rabbi, Thou art the Son of God! Thou art the King of Israel! Jesus answered him, Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these. And He said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man. REFRAIN OF THE COMMUNION HYMN (PSALM 18.4 LXX; TONE 8) Their sound hath gone forth into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. HOLY OBLATIONS AND PRAYER REQUESTS By Salim and Paula Najjar and Kameel and Rula Najjar and their families, for the repose of mother Angelle Najjar (9-day memorial). We fast from November 15 until the Christmas Liturgy (although we make a special dispensation for Thanksgiving). During this time we abstain from all meat and dairy products, AND we increase our prayer, reading of Scripture and almsgiving for the poor. ST. BARBARA AND ST. The Introduction to Orthodoxy class and the Who is Jesus? class, together with the Teen Chat, will begin right after Liturgy. ST. 6 FROM YOUR CHARITY MINISTRY TEAM Wow! Thank you for generously supporting the international children of need. 24 shoebox gifts are now being air lifted to countries in need. This in conjunction with Samaritan s Purse and Heritage Christian Church. WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO THIS CHRISTMAS FOR THE NEEDY HERE IN TOWN? 1. Christmas Card: Please donate to the Christmas card. Your name will appear on the St. George Christmas card that is mailed to each parishioner. All donations for the Christmas card funds all the charity needs throughout the year. There is no set amount, but please be generous. Envelopes were mailed and are available at the candle stand. Please fill out the card, place it in the return envelope with your donation, and return it to the church in the collection basket or by mail by December 7. You can also submit your Christmas card donation online at 2. Christmas tree for our local needy families. This year we are supporting children from needy families in Indianapolis, as identified by our own Hala Bannourah, Counselor at IPS School #42. a. Thanks to all who already took tags from the Christmas Giving Tree. There are many tags remaining as the need is great. If an item says Wish list those are items wished for by the child. If it does not say wish list, those are items deemed needed by the parent. b. Return your gift, wrapped, by December 7. Please keep the original tag with the gift, so we can identify who should receive it and what has been purchased. c. We will use funds from your generosity in the Christmas Card to purchase fresh food items and items not taken from the tree. 3. Canned and Non-perishable Food. From now until Christmas, as part of our parish participation in the Archdiocese-wide World Food Day program, we ask you to bring in canned vegetable and meats, pasta, soups, etc. You can place them on the table in the main lobby. We report to the Archdiocese the total received, but we keep the items for our own food pantry to help the needy in our own area (including parishioners). Delivery date for our local needy will be December 20 th. If you are interested in being a part of the charity committee and delivering please let Diana Najjar know

OUR ANNUAL STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN This is the time of year when we reflect upon our many blessings and give thanks to our almighty God. It is also the time to reevaluate our stewardship commitment for the coming year. This commitment is in the form of our annual stewardship pledge. This is the pledge we make to continue the operational support of our new church for the coming year and is separate from the building fund pledge. We would hope everyone is striving to reach a goal of at least 10% of their total income as a pledge. If you can t reach 10%, please consider increasing your pledge from last year and continue to work toward 10% in the future. All parishioners will receive a pledge card in the mail. We will also have pledge cards available at the candle stand. Please fill out your pledge card for the coming year and deposit it into the locked wooden box located at the candle stand. You may also mail it directly to the church office. Please know that your pledge is confidential and only our office staff will open the pledge box or your pledge envelope. Today, November 30, David Sumner will speak on stewardship. Our pledge drive will culminate on Sunday, December 14, 2014 with our annual Pledge Sunday followed by a light brunch sponsored by our stewardship committee. We would like to receive all pledge cards on or before December 14 th. Father Nabil, the parish council and stewardship committee are asking for 100% participation from all members of St. George Parish. Please help us reach our goal! The Stewardship Committee, Samir Kanazeh, Patrick Koers, David Sumner, Kathy Tingwald MORTGAGE PLEDGE CAMPAIGN Please note that we have to keep our operating fund separate from our building fund and capital campaign. Thus we ask everyone to fill out separate cards for your regular pledge and for the mortgage. We pray every family will participate in both. Last Sunday we announced that we had met the matching challenge of an anonymous donor for $50k from the time they made the challenge. Thank you to everyone who stepped up and responded, so we could garner that generous annual pledge for the mortgage. But, while that was an important milestone, we can t stop yet. Please check the thermometer during coffee hour for our progress. You will see that we re just over half way to covering our monthly mortgage.
