THE FIRST ANTIPHON Shout with joy to God, all the earth, give thanks unto the Lord and call upon His Name. Declare His works among the nations. Refrain: Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Savior, save us. In the city of our God, in His holy mountain, His place hath been made in peace, and His dwelling in Zion. (Refrain) Glory Both now (Refrain) THE SECOND ANTIPHON The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwelling of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Refrain: Save us, O Son of God, Who art risen from the dead; who sing to Thee. Alleluia. God hath laid her foundation unto eternity. We have thought, O God, of Thy mercy in the midst of Thy people. 3 THE THIRD ANTIPHON Ready is my heart, O God, ready is my heart; I will sing and chant in my glory. What shall I render to the Lord for all that He hath given me? I will receive the cup of salvation, and call upon the Name of the Lord. ~ During the Little Entrance, after the verses of the Third Antiphon, chant the Apolytikion of the Dormition. THE EISODIKON (ENTRANCE HYMN) OF ORDINARY SUNDAYS Come, let us worship, and fall down before Christ. Save us, O Son of God, Who art risen from the dead; who sing to Thee. Alleluia. ~ After the Little Entrance (Eisodos), sing these Apolytikia in the following order. RESURRECTIONAL APOLYTIKION IN TONE EIGHT From the heights Thou didst descend, O compassionate One, and Thou didst submit to the three-day burial, that Thou might deliver us from passion; Thou art our life and our Resurrection, O Lord, glory to Thee. APOLYTIKION OF THE DORMITION IN TONE ONE In thy birth-giving, O Theotokos, thou didst keep and preserve virginity; and in thy falling-asleep thou hast not forsaken the world; for living thou wast translated, being the Mother of Life. Wherefore, by thine intercessions, deliver our souls from death. APOLYTIKION OF ST. ANTHONY THE GREAT Thou didst become like the zealous Elijah in his condition, and followed John the Baptist in his upright ways. Becoming a dweller in the wilderness, and an establisher of the universe by thy prayer O Father Anthony. Wherefore intercede thou with Christ our God to save our souls. KONTAKION OF THE DORMITION IN TONE TWO Verily, the Theotokos, who is ever watchful in intercessions, who is never rejected, neither tomb nor death could control. But being the Mother of Life, He Who dwelt in her ever-virgin womb did translate her to life. THE EPISTLE (For the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost) Make vows to the Lord thy God and perform them. In Judah God is known; His Name is great in Israel. The Reading from the First Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians. (3:9-17) Brethren, we are God s fellow workers; you are God s field, God s building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay or straw, each man s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. Do you not know that you are God s temple and that God s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God s temple, God will destroy him; for God s temple is holy, and you are that temple. THE GOSPEL (For the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost) The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (14:22-34) At that time, Jesus made the Disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowds. And after He had dismissed the crowds, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone, but the Disciples boat by this time was many furlongs distant from the land, beaten by the waves; for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea. But when the Disciples saw Jesus walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying,

4 It is a ghost! And they cried out for fear. But immediately He spoke to them, saying, Take heart, it is I; have no fear. And Peter answered Him, Lord, if it is Thee, bid me come to Thee on the water. He said, Come. So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus; but when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, Lord, save me! Jesus immediately reached out His hand and caught him, saying to him, O man of little faith, why did you doubt? And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped Him, saying, Truly, Thou art the Son of God. And when they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret. ~ The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom continues as usual. THE DISMISSAL Priest: May He Who rose from the dead, Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His allimmaculate and all-blameless holy Mother whose Dormition and translation into the heavens we now celebrate by the might of the Precious and Life-giving Cross; by the protection of the honorable Bodiless Powers of Heaven; at the supplication of the honorable, glorious Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John; of the holy, glorious and all-laudable apostles; of our father among the saints, John Chrysostom, archbishop of Constantinople, whose Divine Liturgy we have now celebrated; of the holy, glorious and right-victorious Martyrs; of our venerable and God-bearing Fathers; of Saint Anthony the Great, the patron and protector of this holy community; of the holy and righteous ancestors of God, Joachim and Anna; of the holy, glorious and all-laudable Apostle Thaddeus of the Seventy; the Martyrs Bassa and her sons Theognios, Agapios, and Pistos of Edessa; Venerable Abraham of Smolensk and his disciple, Venerable Ephraim, whose memory we celebrate today, and of all the saints: have mercy on us and save us, forasmuch as He is good and loveth mankind. We appreciate your help in this matter. Q : The top ten reasons men should join the church choir: 10. Rehearsals are every Thursday night. Which means that for those few hours, you will significantly reduce your risk of contracting tendinitis from nonstop operation of a television remote control or computer mouse. 9. Because you wear a choir robe every Sunday, you are liberated from a task many men find quite challenging: finding clothes that match properly. (doesn t apply for our Church yet, but we do have robes) 8. From your special vantage point every Sunday, in which you look out at the entire congregation from the choir seats, you will develop interesting new hobbies. Among these is a little guessing game called "Who's Praying, Who's Sleeping?" 7. On the other hand, sitting in full view of people on a weekly basis makes it much less likely that you yourself will give in to a chronic lack of sleep. Although it has been known to happen. 6. If you think your singing in the shower sounds good now, just wait till you've been singing with us for a few weeks. 5. Singing in a choir is one of the few activities for men that does not require electronics equipment or expensive power tools. This could be good for the family budget. 4. For the fitness buffs, singing in the Choir is not only heart healthy, it's soul healthy. But there are no monthly membership fees, and it's a lot easier on the knees than jogging. 3. If you think you've done everything there is to do, and there are no great challenges left in life, try singing with us guys and staying on pitch. 2. Choir rehearsal lasts half as long as a professional football game, but is at least twice as satisfying. This is especially true if you are a long-suffering fan of the Miami Dolphins. (Don't worry, though, the rehearsals are on Thursday, not Monday Nights.) And the number 1 reason men should join the choir: 1. When people ask you whether you've been behaving yourself, you can say with the utmost sincerity, "Hey, I'm a Choir Boy."

8 ABOUT COMMUNION We are happy that you have joined us today. Indeed, we pray for the unity of the Faith for the day when all of Christianity are united as ONE and can share a common Chalice. However, this is not the case as yet. The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist (Holy Communion) is offered only to Orthodox Christians who are in complete harmony with the Faith and prepared themselves through fasting and prayer. We hope that you do understand and if you have questions or wish to embrace the Orthodox Christian Faith, please talk with Father Elia.
