His father was named Myritrikes and his mother Anastaso. When he had reached maturity, he excelled in soldiery and was counted worthy of royal honours for his bravery. He had been brought up an iconoclast, but while yet a soldier, he was converted to Orthodoxy by a certain holy elder. He later forsook all things and departed for Mount Olympus, where he spent the remainder of his life in asceticism. Becoming great in virtue, he reposed in the Lord in the year 834, having lived some ninety-four years. To this Saint is ascribed the brief prayer, The Father is my Hope; the Son is my Refuge; the Holy Spirit is my Protector. O Holy Trinity: Glory to Thee.

Thou ledest Hades captive and wast not tempted thereby. Thou didst meet the Virgin and didst give life to the world, O Thou, Who art risen from the dead, O Lord, glory to Thee. ALL OTHERS should wait until an usher dismisses your row from the center aisle. Then return to your place by a side aisle for the prayers of thanksgiving and the final blessing and dismissal. Accordingly, thou hast become a star for the universe, sparkling with miracles. Therefore, O righteous Father Ioannikios, intercede with Christ God to save our souls. As Deliverer of captives and Defender of the poor, Healer of the infirm, Champion of kings, victorious Great-Martyr George, O undisputed intercessor of Christians, the Mediatrix who is unrejected by the Creator. Turn not away from the voice of our petitions, though we be sinners. From the Epistle of St. Paul to the Ephesians (2:4-10; 23 nd Sunday after Pentecost) BRETHREN, God Who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and made us sit with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God not because

4 of works, lest any man should boast. For, we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St Luke (16:19-31; 5 th Sunday of Luke) THE LORD SAID, There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, full of sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man s table; moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried; and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom. And he called out, Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us. And he said, Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father s house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment. But Abraham said, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, No, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent. He said to him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.

6 Notice of Special Parish Meeting Following Liturgy on Sunday, November 18, we will review the updated 2017 financial statement. This will be your opportunity to ask detailed questions, and we will have professionals on hand at that time, prepared to explain. At the same meeting, on November 18, we will present the 2018 Festival financial report. On Sunday, December 2, we will hold the vote for the official acceptance of the 2017 financial statement, in the temple, at the conclusion of Liturgy. There will be no other business at this special meeting. AN OPENING FOR THE GOSPEL IN EVANSVILLE We began working on starting a church in Evansville in Gradually, our missionary efforts bore fruit, especially when they got to the point of having a full-time priest, Fr. Daniel Hackney, in Two years ago, they purchased the building you see here, and they have been making renovations to make it suitable for Orthodox worship since then, and we have been helping with that. For example, we sent a mission team in August of 2016 to do demolition work. 7 The clergy of the Diocese of Toledo, having concelebrated the Divine Liturgy with Bishop Anthony at the 71 st Midwest Parish Life Conference, hosted by St. Elias Church in Sylvania, Ohio, June The conference was attended by just shy of 700 faithful servants, who gathered to enjoy a well-planned and thoughtfully organized Parish Life Conference. It included educational, spiritual, social and fellowship activities. The organizational meetings were another great success, where members of our diocesan organizations came together to set future plans and share experiences and fellowship. Some of the organizational meetings were attended by a large number of participants, who reminded us of an Archdiocesan-level meeting. This year our conference introduced a new series of talks and workshops highlighted by the Faithtree Program. In addition to daily Matins and Vespers, we had a series of Bible studies on our Lord's Beatitudes (from Matthew 5) with Dr. Paul Finley, along with excellent workshops on parenting ("Parenting Toward the Kingdom" with Dr. Philip Mamalakis) for youth workers, young adults, and families. The conference also organized a teen retreat, a Christian education workshop, a Sunday school teachers' workshop, and much more. Note that the 2019 Conference will be in Urbana Illinois, then we re hosting the 2020 Conference that June.
