2 From Father Nathan Reesman, Pastor Dear Friends at Saint Mary s Immaculate Conception Parish and Saint Frances Cabrini Parish: Praised be Jesus Christ! In addition to all the other pulpit updates I have been offering of late, I will offer a few more updates on additional topics here: Holy Habits Challenge Finish Line: This weekend we of icially end the monthly roll out of Catholic habits that began way back in September. What a run it has been! I have been so grati ied to hear the favorable reactions from so many of you over this formation exercise. My hope now is that we keep the habits going which is always the hardest part. The entire Holy Habits Challenge was created as part of my Mundelein homework to be an experiment for analysis; for research purposes, we did not explain this back in the Fall. Surprise! Now that we have run the experiment in full, I will begin typing my thesis paper based on the Holy Habits Challenge with the hope of having it completed and defended by late this coming Fall. With that I will be inished with my studies. This Tuesday, May 1 st is my last formal class day with the program bringing to an end two years of driving to Illinois for weekly classes and papers. I want to offer my thanks to everyone who helped me create the Holy Habits Challenge, to all those who helped implement it, to all of my sample group members, to all the catechists and teachers who did great things with it this past year, and to all of you for Readings for the Week of April 29, 2018 Sun: Mon: Acts 9:26-31/Ps 22:26-27, 28, 30, [26a]/1 Jn 3:18-24/Jn 15:1-8 Acts 14:5-18/Ps 115:1-2, 3-4, [1ab]/ Jn 14:21-26 Tues: Acts 14:19-28/Ps 145:10-11, 12-13ab, 21 [cf. 12]/ Jn 14:27-31a Wed: Acts 15:1-6/Ps 122:1-2, 3-4ab, 4cd-5 [cf. 1]/ Jn 15:1-8 Thurs: 1 Cor 15:1-8/Ps 19:2-3, 4-5 [5]/Jn 14:6-14 Fri: Acts 15:22-31/Ps 57:8-9, 10 and 12 [10a]/ Jn 15:12-17 Sat: Acts 16:1-10/Ps 100:1b-2, 3, 5/Jn 15:18-21 Sun: Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48/Ps 98:1, 2-3, 3-4 [cf. 2b]/1 Jn 4:7-10/Jn 15:9-17 taking up the challenge. On to the next great formation endeavor! The Next Great Formation Endeavor: More details on this will be emerging in the weeks and months ahead, but essentially Saint Frances Cabrini is moving to a whole family based catechetical formation model which is becoming more widely used in parishes. We will be the irst of the West Bend parishes to try it out. The kernel of the model is the creation of programming that educates whole families together as much as possible rather than targeting age-speci ic groups in isolation which is what we have been doing for decades now. This will be more easily explained when you see it in action. One component of this new model will mean a slight change to our Sunday morning Mass schedule at Saint Frances Cabrini to allow for more adult education and family education time earlier in the day. We anticipate this all taking effect Labor Day weekend; between now and then please watch for more details. Staff Changes: With two parishes of our size and structure we are always experiencing some staff changes. This Spring has been more active than usual on this front for various reasons. I want to brie ly mention some of the changes here. You are already aware of the change of Associate Pastors. In addition to that, both parishes have recently hired a shared Community Life Coordinator to help oversee our volunteer opportunities and our community building events (chili suppers, for example). 4 (From page 2) We were blessed to hire Jan Kolb for this role who is no stranger to our parish communities given her family s long history of involvement here. She will be introducing herself at all the Masses in about a month. We have also reorganized the Catholic Formation Staff for our new formation model. Katie Schaitberger will now be serving as overall director of formation for both parishes, relinquishing some of her other duties now to Jan Kolb. Working with her is a new full time associate director of formation, Emily Comfort. Emily will start of icially in June. Mary Abel continues as overseer of the Saint Mary s elementary and high school formation programs. Kollin Petrie, SFC Youth Minister since 2014, was offered a position closer to his family in Fond du Lac and he will be starting that new role in a month. We are posting a part time replacement for his duties here with a focus on teen mentoring and retreat organizing. Christina Spindler will continue to oversee the Journey Program. In addition to reorganizing our formation department for both parishes, Saint Frances Cabrini Parish and school have also inalized plans to open an early childhood center late this summer and we have hired a new director for that endeavor. Missy Dieterich is excited to assume this new role for us here and she is already off and running on the details. There is a lot going on around here! My thanks to everyone who makes it possible.
