2 Message From Father What s inside Invitation: Respect Life Novena Message from Father Jim, Eucharistic Adoration, July MICA Food Pantry Collection 2 Mass Schedule and Intentions, Godspeed Deacon Jim, Stephen Ministry, 3 Fire & Ice Cream night, Prayer & Thought, SCRIP Sales, Honduran Coffee, 4 Get Closer to God, St. Cecilia Activities, Sacraments, Volunteer Opportunity 5 While the moral issue of abortion stands at the apex of the Church's proclamation and defense of human life, the Church's body of teaching on the sacredness and dignity of human life and calls for its promotion and protection also embraces the issues of euthanasia (so-called "death with dignity ), the continued use of the death penalty, access to quality health care for every person as a fundamental human right, immigration reform that both provides for safety and refuge for those fleeing persecution and simultaneously provides for national security just to mention a few. All of these issues currently are facing legislative and judicial action on the national and state level across the country. Parish Contacts 6 Every Friday during the period from August 3 to September 28 we are encouraged to pray one "Our Father", "Hail Mary", and "Glory Be" for this intention. We might also consider the invitation to abstain from eating meat on these Fridays, and even fasting for this same intention. In a recent communique from Archbishop Jackels he extends an invitation to join others nationwide in a once-a-week novena of prayer from August 3 to September 28 for the intention of the legal protection of human life. You can sign up to receive weekly or text reminders to pray and fast, along with little-known facts about Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision which legalized abortion in our country and will, no doubt, be the focus of much debate during the upcoming Supreme Court Congressional hearings. At St. Cecilia's we are blessed to be able to go to Jesus present in His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity during scheduled Eucharistic Adoration when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed on the altar in the Burke Chapel. Here you will find rest like no other, a rest unique and tailored by Jesus for each person who comes to Him. Many have found making a weekly hour-long time with Jesus essential to their sense of well-being. It's a time of deepening connection with Jesus that grounds their whole week, and a source of healing and consolation for themselves and those they love and pray for. Are YOU being called to a weekly hour of rest with Jesus this summer? Hours are available, day and night, Sunday through Saturday. Hours of most need: Monday 8pm; Tuesday, 8am & 1pm; Wednesday, 2, 9 & 11am; Thursday, 12am most critical need. Subs are available for all hours. Jesus was telling that story to us and speaking to all of us to be his instruments in our daily lives. PRAYER & THOUGHT Stewardship: The hand of the Lord feeds us, says the Due to the success and growth of our Honduran coffee product sales, we are now celebrating the birth of THE DULCE psalmist; he answers all our needs. Both Elisha s servant in the first reading and the disciples in the Gospel story who witnessed the feeding of the five thousand saw this happen and knew it to be true. Marriage Corner: Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted. (John 6:12) Jesus was able to feed the crowds because one boy was willing to share what little he had. Our society often promotes wasteful habits. Be grateful for all that God has blessed you with, and share what your family has with others. Stewardship Moment: The story of the multiplication of the loaves and the fishes is a familiar one, and has many lessons, not least of which is how our willingness to share who we are and what we have - exercising good stewardship releases God s power and bountifulness on the world and its people. Do we realize that there is enough for all if we are willing to share? Are we aware that God is at work when we share our time, our money and our other resources in his name? NOMBRE FOUNDATION! Beginning with our coffee sales at the end of July, we will need to have all checks made out to the EL ZAPOTE CAFE instead of St. Thomas Aquinas. Nothing will change other than the name you ll need to place on your check We also plan to be opening our sales for large orders at a reduced price. Stay tuned for that! Volunteers are needed to take these donations from St. Cecilia to MICA, You would be scheduled to do this 3 to 4 times per year.
