3 Pace of Grace October, 2018 Dear Friends at Grace, Hold onto your hats folks! Grace Church is alive and well and there are many, many activities and programs happening during the month of October and beyond! They have always been on their best behavior throughout the service. It is wonderful to see. We then move on to October 14 th for Morning Prayer and the United Thank Offering Ingathering. Mei-Tsen Chen, our organist, is hosting a benefit concert for the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) on Sunday afternoon. Monday the 15 th will find the Hi-Nooners making their annual pilgrimage to Gouveia Vineyards in Wallingford. Planning has been in the works all year for the FALL FESTIVAL on October 20th. This will be the best one ever as the committee continues to fine-tune the day and vendors will be offering their crafts and other goods for sale. On October 21st, Fr. Jose Martinez will bring us a Children s Sermon for the young and young at heart. Everyone is invite to join him at the altar. As we come to the end of the month, our Diocesan Delegates, Karen Halpert and Liz Welk, will attend the Diocesan Convention on October 26/27. They will share some of their thoughts from Convention with us on Sunday, October 28. We hope you are able to partake of these many offerings and Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy! Blessings to you all! We added $1,016 (26 checks) to their daily proceeds which earned us 20% back!! Laura Lynch Through UTO, we are invited to embrace and deepen a personal daily spiritual discipline of gratitude. 8 STEWARDSHIP -- A Way of Living I want to share some thoughts with you as we approach our 2019 Stewardship Annual Campaign. We will begin our campaign on Sunday, 10/21/18 and we will celebrate commitment Sunday on 11/18/18. I am praying that you will be able to join your Grace Church family during this time to share a part of our lives together. What is Stewardship? Is it only knowing how to look after finances? NO. Being a good steward means to learn the art of helping, loving and caring for others. Great stewardship is living in Peace, Joy and Harmony so that our lives are a tribute to Good and God. We must look after what God has given us. Nothing truly belongs to us; everything actually belongs to God. How are you living out your Stewardship? How thankful are you to God? Do you feel Blessed? When you are a good steward, do you feel Love, Joy and Peace? I 'm hoping you will take a few minutes, as we make our journey to commitment Sunday, and give some of these questions some thought. Faithfully Submitted, Karen Halpert, Stewardship Chairperson KEEPING KIDS SAFE IN NEWINGTON Challenges for today's youth are often both different and new to parents and sometimes filled with risk for their kids and teens. How do parents address in a healthy manner such issues as bullying or being bullied; cyberbullying or being cyberbullied; too-manyhours of social media or violent video games; sexual harassment, dating issues; use/misuse of drugs, being lured into distributing illegal drugs, and vaping in school or when no one's home; gun violence; school assaults? On Thursday, October 18, from 6;00 to 7:30, parents, grandparents, caregivers are invited to gather in the cafeteria at the Senior Center to learn effective and caring communication skills to address these topics, especially local drugs and access to them, in a manner that will enable caring conversation not conflict. Join Human Services clinical social worker, Pat Meskill, to learn how to talk so that our children and teens will want to listen and how to listen so that a deeper trust is built between parents, teens, and within the family. There is no charge for this program which is sponsored by the Newington Interfaith Clergy Association and Newington's Human Services Dept. Please call JoAnn Cromwell at for more information. 6
