2 Page Page 2 2 Report and Reflections Just a Word Adopt a Family for Christmas-We will once again collect donations and gift cards to help make a family s Christmas bright! Keep your eyes on our weekly Connections and bulletin announcements for more information. Dear Friends, We are fast approaching the Season of Outreach. Hopefully, you and I are up for the task of blessing others as we are blessed! Summons of Joy-This year the Vestry voted to once again join area churches in raising funds for needy people in our community. As in the last couple of years, the Florissant Police Department will distribute gift cards. That means that families in our area will have a merrier Christmas! Samaritan s Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes-St. Barnabas will be participating in the program once again. Empty shoe boxes will be available on Sunday, November 4, and the deadline for return and pick up is Sunday, November 18. This is a short time frame to shop and fill a box. PLEASE NOTE: Toothpaste and candy are no longer allowed in the Christmas Shoe Boxes due to customs regulations. Grace Hill Settlement House Christmas Giving Tree-Our annual Giving Tree goes up immediately after our Holiday Dinner on November 3! Many children will need socks, hats, mittens, gloves, underwear, diapers, and toys. Let s help to make their Christmas joyous! The last Sunday to give donations is Sunday, December 4. Collection and Wrapping Party for Episcopal City Mission-ECM provides chaplaincy to youth in detention. A list of suggested items, new and unwrapped, will be available soon. Everyone is invited to ECM s Christmas wrapping party in December. For more information see the Episcopal City Mission website. God s blessings to you and yours! Rev. Renee+
3 Page Page 3 3 SENIOR WARDEN Our annual Fill the Ford collection at Dierbergs was a big success. The residents of North County gave generously to help our neighbors who are in need. We collected 104 bags of groceries and $540 for TEAM which is truly amazing. Feeding those in need is at the core of the mission of any church and it is heartwarming to see such giving. Many thanks to Jim and Arby Hollenberg for taking on the organization of the event again this year, and many thanks to all who volunteered to help the day of the collection. We are planning two Fill the Ford events next year. We are in discussions with folks at St. Stephen s to hold one of the events in May to help fill the food pantry they operate. More information will be coming in My extended term on the Vestry and as Sr. Warden is coming quickly to an end and I am mindful of how much work still needs to be done to make our Parish viable to continue into the future. We have made some headway but much still needs to be done. We need fresh thoughts, ideas, and input in the discussion of the future of this Parish. I will admit that in these challenging times the work of the Vestry requires much effort, but I encourage each of you to pray about and seriously consider, serving on the Vestry. I feel it is a very rewarding service. Dennis Haefner, Senior Warden. (P ea t e y lo k ba, i Sa rd i h, N 3, ef g n t e.). Please remember your pledges! We are asking you to take time to pray and reflect on ways that you are able to share your gifts with our St. Barnabas family as together, we commit to doing God s work together. Thank you for the love and support which you have shown to St. Barnabas in the past.
4 Reports and Events EPISCOPAL CHURCH WOMEN Seeking Sharing Serving The fifth annual Vendor Fair was October 20. While the turn-out was a little lighter than we hoped for, we had a successful fair. There were many goodies to choose from and one-stop shopping is always a good thing! Thanks to all who helped: setting up, cleaning up, welcoming our guests, working the tables, etc. Also, it s time to start thinking about donating home-made baked goodies for the annual bake sale that accompanies the Holiday Dinner. Pie? Cookies? Cake? Brownies? Have you signed up yet? There s a sheet on the table outside the parish hall. We will be holding a raffle as well. Be sure to come to the dinner, feast on turkey, enjoy a dessert from the bake sale, and take a chance on one of the prizes. Looking forward to seeing you. The Giving Tree will be going up right after the Holiday dinner for a short period of time. Gloves, scarves, mittens, hats, toys, etc. are always needed for those who are less fortunate. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, November 14, at We ll be putting together our shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. Holly Garrett will chair the meeting and lunch will follow. Charlotte will bring chips, Julie has salad, and Holly will provide dessert. We d love to have you join us. Just bring a smile and a sandwich to share. UNITED THANK OFFERING It s November already. Halloween has come and gone. We re getting ready to celebrate All Saints; Thanksgiving is just over the horizon; and Christmas will be here before we know it. I m reminded of that Irving Berlin song from White Christmas: Count Your Blessings. One of my favorite blessings will turn two this month. I m so grateful to have him in my life. Many coins go in my blue box in gratitude. Maybe you re grateful for a co-worker who helps without being asked. Or possibly someone had a fire going, dinner on the stove, and a glass of your favorite beverage waiting for you when you came home. Small blessings. Maybe a friend you haven t heard from for a while called to catch up. Whatever small blessings have come your way, it s time to count them and pay them forward. The fall UTO Ingathering will be November 11 (with a grace period of a week in case we forget). Please open your blue UTO box, count the coins and write a check. Make the check payable to St. Barnabas and on the memo line, please indicate UTO before you put it in your UTO envelope. All those folks around the world who receive UTO grants to help improve their lives are counting on us. On their behalf, I say, Thank you. Holly Garrett UTO Coordinator

Jim Hollenberg PLEASE NOTE: Toothpaste and candy are no longer allowed in the Christmas Shoe boxes due to custom regulations. ************************************* HUNGER SUNDAY November 18 November Suggestions: box mashed potato mixes gravy mixes canned vegetables canned chicken and dumplings Having access to food is critical for the emotional and physical well-being of a person.
