3 CAP Sessions May 2017 We can be sure that we love God s children when we love God and do what He has commanded. 1 John 5:2 The Office of Child and Youth Protection is announcing CAP (Child Assault Prevention) sessions. CAP is the safe environment training program for adults who have regular contact with minors. Attendance is required in order to comply with the USCCB s Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The policy of the Diocese of Camden is that adults will attend CAP once every five years. CAP 1 teaches attendees to recognize child abuse and neglect and how to report to the proper authorities. Adults are taught that children have the right to be safe, strong and free. CAP 1 is for new volunteers and employees. CAP 2 is called CAP s Bullying Prevention Program and is a workshop addressing bullying awareness and bullying prevention. Cyber-bullying is also presented. CAP 3 is called Cyber-Empowerment and is a workshop which promotes adults understanding of cyber activity of youth while teaching them realistic ways to help children keep their own rights and guard the rights of others in the cyber-sphere. Each presentation is 90 minutes Adults who are new employees or volunteers should attend CAP 1 before attending CAP 2 or CAP 3. After five years, adults have the option of attending CAP 1, 2 or 3 when they renew their CAP. NEXT DISTRIBUTION IS MAY 15, 2017 BLACK CATHOLIC MINISTRY Fellow Catholics: You know of the merger between our churches and we come to worship among you hivng left our parish which was located on the Northside of Pennsylvania Ave, St. Monica Church. We have a rich history and owe much of our Catholic roots to Mother Emma Lewis, Founder of the Mission which led to St. Monica s Church. After 77 years our church doors were closed and we scattered to various churches in the area. The 12 Noon Sunday Mass is attended by the African American majority of people who no longer can attend the old church. As Africian Americans we find ourselves immersed in a Multicutlural church and we want to carve our niche in it. So here we are, we will have a sick list, hospitalization list and any news that parishioners want the church family to be aware of. Special events, marriages, births, deaths can be sent to or called to Alma Johnson or /johnsonflaky43@aol.com or you can contact the parish office at or to office@accatholic.org. We must receive all notices no later then 12 noon on Mondays. Our Parishioners Give The people of the Parish of Saint Monica raised $105,000 in 2016 in response to the Bishop's Annual Appeal to support Catholic Charities and other diocesan ministries. Some of our parishioners also volunteer in the local office. Thank you all for your participation. JOIN US Knights of Saint John Meetings Regular monthly meetings are held in the Star of the Sea rectory. The Knights of Saint John Commandery #287 was formed October 13th, 1919 here in Atlantic City. Our Foundress MOTHER EMMA LEWIS, had a vision imbued with a passion for inclusiveness and participation of the African American community in keeping with the universality of the Catholic Church. Today you will find the Knights assisting in the Masses, pursuing fund raising activities, helping at the Parish food bank, transporting parishioners to Mass, collecting winter clothes, evangelizing and participating in Parish Ministries. LUKE 24:32 How often do we take the time to discern what Jesus wants from us? Are our prayers always petitions, asking Jesus to do things for us? If so, that s a onesided relationship. Living our faith means developing a personal relationship with Jesus. Just like any friendship, there is give and take, each side listening to each other and helping each other out. Take time in silence as a Christian Steward to listen to what Jesus is asking of you. Consider rereading Luke 24:13-35 then reflect upon the appropriate question below. Reflection for Adults: Today's gospel story is often called "The Road to Emmaus." In the story, the eyes of Jesus' followers were opened when Jesus fed them. How are your eyes opened to Jesus when you participate in the Eucharist? How do you keep your eyes on God during the rest of the week? Reflection for Children: If you had the chance to eat with Jesus, what would you feed him? Would you serve Him your favorite food? Or would you ask Him what He wanted?
