2 PROJECT UPDATE. The weather has not been conducive for outside work, and the inside of the building is not heated and very cold, but things are progressing. Ted Kerrick has been diligently wiring the building. While it would have taken less me if the electrical work was hired out, it is saving us over $10,000 in labor with the volunteer help. The next big step is installing the drywall, but is not cost-effec ve to install it in cold weather, so the electric install delay is not significant in me, only in savings. The carpenters have been construc ng the altar ambo (raised pla orm), framing the altar boys and priests room, installing the pull down stairs for a c access, other miscellaneous framing and blocking to hang cabinets, and more. They recently installed the windows, which have drama cally enhanced the look of the building and allowed light to flow into the building so the workers can have good light to work. In the house the walls of the addi on have been painted, the doors are being installed, and the window trim and baseboards are being installed. Next will be to complete the master bathroom and install new flooring on the main floor level. No work is being done at this me to the second floor of the house. 5 SUNDAY OF THE CROSS... We have come to half-way week in our Lenten journey. We are reminded every year of the half-way mark by the Adora on of the Cross which is enthroned today on the Sacramental Table and surrounded by red flowers. The priest, deacon, those in minor orders and altar boys also wear red vestments on this day. And we bow before the Cross singing Your Cross, we adore, O Master, and Your Holy Resurrec on we glorify!. There is never a Lent without this beau ful ritual of the third Lenten Sunday. Have you ever heard of the tree called the President? This is a giant 3, 200 year old sequoia that grows in California s Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, 247 feet tall, 2 billion leaves thick, and earth s second largest tree. Yet, as much as an imposing wonder that the President tree is, it is not earth s most important tree. Listen to this hymn from today: Come let us drink living waters flowing from the Tree of Life, as we behold before us the Fountain of Blessings. Another hymn says this: died through the tree of good and evil, but now I have found the Tree of Life in you, Cross of Christ!. You see, our hymns refer to the Cross ofr Christ as atree, and it is the most important tree in the universe. Today you are brought strength to con nue the Fast. During this coming week while the Cross is displayed for venera on, and when the Moleben to the Cross is celebrated one night this week in your parish church, don t remain in you pew. 8 St. Mary s Orthodox Church Un-Official Minutes of Council Mee ng January 8, 2017 Members Present: Chuck Coons, Rodney Kerrick, Ted Kerrick, Nancy Gabel, Diane Rodrigues, Carol Telehany, Gloria Ewsuk, and Mary Leonard Also in A endance: Father Dan The mee ng was opened at 11:45 with a prayer. Chuck requested a mo on to accept the minutes of December 11, A mo on was made by Ted and seconded by Nancy. The minutes were approved. Priest Report Shut-ins have been visited and all are okay. Na vity services were held this weekend and the a endance at the services were similar as in previous years. Sparse a endance at the Na vity eve morning Liturgy service. The vigil service was moderately a ended with about 15 people. Christmas morning service was well a ended. There will be a Holy Supper at 5:00 PM Wednesday, January 18 th. Theophany vigil service will begin at 6:30 PM and concluding with the blessing of water. Blessing of homes will begin on Monday, January 23 rd. Old Business Reloca on Update The gas line is installed. Chuck will be pain ng in the Canada Road rectory on Thursday of this week. Chuck is working with the window company to finalize the order. New Business Adop on of the 2017 Budget Chuck made a mo on to accept the 2017 Budget. It was seconded by Gloria. All in favor. Burns-Ma eson Mee ng The Finance commi ee met with Burns-Ma eson for the year end asset review. We realized investment income of $23,000 last year. Much of the investment is in cash. Annual Mee ng Agenda discussion Chuck requested that anyone with items for the agenda of the Annual mee ng get these items to him this week prior to January 15 th.
