JOHN THE APOSTLE God Bless America: Prayer for Government The following text was composed by Archbishop John Carroll, the first bishop in the United States, in 1791 for the United States of America. We share it with you 224 years later on our Independence Day Weekend, We pray, O almighty and eternal God, who through Jesus Christ has revealed thy glory to all nations, to preserve the works of your mercy, that your Church, being spread through the whole world, may continue with unchanging faith in the confession of your name. We pray Thee, who alone are good and holy, to endow with heavenly knowledge, sincere zeal and sanctity of life, our chief bishop, the pope, the vicar of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the government of his Church; our own bishop, all other bishops We pray, O God of might, wisdom and justice, through whom authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgment decreed, assist with your Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude the president of these United States that his administration may be conducted in righteousness and be eminently useful to your people over whom he presides; by encouraging due respect for virtue and religion; by a faithful execution of the laws in justice and mercy; and by restraining vice and immorality. Let the light of your divine wisdom direct the deliberations of Congress, and shine forth in all the proceedings and laws framed for our rule and government. We recommend likewise, to your unbounded mercy, all our brethren and fellow citizens throughout the United States, that they may be blessed in the knowledge and sanctified in the observance of your most holy law; that they may be preserved in union, and in that peace which the world cannot give; and after enjoying the blessings of this life, be admitted to those which are eternal. Finally, we pray to you, O Lord of mercy, to remember the souls of your servants departed, who are gone before us with the sign of faith and repose in the sleep of peace; the souls of our parents, relatives and friends To these, O Lord, and to all that rest in Christ, grant, we beseech you, a place of refreshment, light and everlasting peace, through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. St. John s Youth Choir will continue throughout the summer, practicing most Saturdays from 9:30-10:30 am and singing one to two Sundays a month. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process of liturgical and spiritual formation for adults seeking membership in the Catholic Church through the sacraments of initiation. You may feel called to join our classes beginning September 14th if you are: Not Baptized, seeking or considering full initiation through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist Baptized in another Christian tradition and considering being received into the Catholic Church through Confirmation and Eucharist Baptized in the Catholic tradition seeking to complete initiation through the sacraments of Eucharist and/ or Confirmation RCIA classes also welcome practicing Catholics who wish to further their understanding of our faith and those willing to share their faith by serving as a sponsor to individuals seeking initiation. WYD Pilgrims Farmers Market and Garden Exchange will be closed Fourth of July Weekend and re-open weekend of July 1112 and will continue it throughout the harvest season. Look for tables outside the church with produce, baked goods, crafts, books and many other items. Gardeners please bring us your extra produce. The World Meeting of Families with Pope Francis is drawing to a close, and Friends in Faith would like Lincoln to celebrate the importance of family to faith, with FUN this summer! The first annual Lincoln Family Fest will be held on Saturday, August 8th at the Kleinschmit farm Van Dorn St. Mass will be held at 5:00 p.m. followed by a BBQ at 6 p.m. and live music at 7:30 p.m. The night will begin with a Godteen human foosball tournament!!!
