Each of us has to believe in something, and we have to have faith in something. Otherwise life isn t worth living. So, let s take a look at these two great powers. Belief is the foundation upon which we stand and build. The things, institutions, and people in which we believe form the background of life for each of us. They are factual and provable. But faith! And even though we may use the words interchangeably, faith runs on ahead of belief. It is actually the power that drives us toward an idea we have no proof of, but would like to develop. To use common street language, faith is the guts to risk something valuable in pursuit of an idea we can t prove. This is what give zest to life, makes astounding discoveries, and creates impossible achievements a powerful faith which is grounded in an immovable belief. Know what you believe about your God, yourself, and your world. Write them down. Why? Well, this is the foundation upon which you will build YOUR future. Then, moving to the dream side, what is your wildest ambition? Don t ask if it is provable, but is it a great idea worth spending a lifetime to develop? Don t fool with anything less. You ve got only one life, and a short one at that, in comparison to eternity. Don t waste it on the insignificant, but take a step in the dark toward some great goal and never give up. And be assured that the driving power of that faith will open doors that won t open to any other power. There is something else that is very important for you should know. Life is good!! Naturally, there are troubles, sorrows, and pains. No one escapes these. But life can and is full of many successes, happy times and gains. So, in whatever condition you find yourself, don t whine, but start counting the blessings that are an abundant part of your life. (Adapted) Father Andrew J U L Y PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Dear Fellow Parishioners, Congratulations to our high school and Sunday School graduates. Once again, St. George played host to the scholarship recipients on Graduation Sunday. Our students are fortunate to have the entire Greek community behind them and supporting them as they pursue their educational goals. Kai se anotera! Many thanks to the Sunday School teachers who worked with our students this year. I was delighted to hear that our Sunday School graduates volunteered to be helpers in our program next year. Athena Moutsioulis Bevan will be our Sunday School Supervisor next year and I know I can count on everyone to work with her to ensure the success of our program. It was a joy to serve as Sunday School Supervisor once more. I appreciate the support of the parents and community because without that support we would not have been successful. On Father s Day the GOYANS took over the duties of the Board members in the Narthex. It was wonderful to have them help out and they all did a great job! Our gentlemen took the opportunity to worship with their families. As the school year comes to an end we all tend to think of vacation and relaxation but for us it is just the beginning of our preparations for Glendi. As I write this the stuffed peppers have been prepared and are tucked away in the freezer. Glendi cooking is going into high gear. Do you have some free time when there is a cooking day? Feel free to join us!! By the time you receive this newsletter we will have had our second Glendi Meeting of George Copadis is doing a spectacular job of pulling together our ad book. Have you purchased an ad yet? It s not too late! Have you volunteered to work in a booth during Glendi? There s a sign-up sheet enclosed. Fill it out and turn it in to the office and someone will contact you. Please don t wait to be asked. I would like to thank Dick Anagnost for taking time out of his busy schedule to meet with Anthony Blenkinsop of the Attorney General s Office and answer all questions which

2 were presented to him. As a result, he sent the letters from Mr. Blenkinsop to each of you at my request because I wanted the community to know that we had fully cooperated with the Attorney General s Office. At the time we thought that the case was closed. A few more questions have arisen and once again he will be meeting with Mr. Blenkinsop. I am certain that his next meeting will finally put to rest ALL questions once and for all. We can then put this chapter in our history books and move on with the work of the Cathedral. He has graciously agreed to grant this extension until Wednesday, July 31st but this is the last day that we can accept ads in order to have the book and ads to the printer and review the draft for the book in time for our September GLENDI. GOYA NEWS GOYA enjoyed assisting the Board in Church on Father's Day. The last meeting of the year was held and there was a barbecue and election of officers. 4 COMMUNITY NEWS Free Blood Pressure Screening The Blood Pressure Screening will be the 2nd Wednesday in July. SENIOR EXERCISE GROUP Sumer is here. Come and get in Shape!!!! Exercise every part of your body while sitting down. One hour of fun every Wednesday starting at 10:00 a.m. in our Community Center. Please join us and bring a friend! AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE Will be sponsored by St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Tuesday, July 23rd at 425 Reservior Ave in Manchester. Please come in and donate blood. It s a slow time of year for donations 4 GLENDI MINI RAFFLE DeeDee Tagalakis and Diane Orr will be chairpeople of the Mini Raffle. We would be very appreciative for any monetary donations so that we can purchase bikes and gifts for the booth. Thank you. Volunteers are needed. There is a form enclosed. URGENT NEED FOR FOOD The demand for food assistance is at an all time high and food bank supplies are at a record low. Help is needed to fill their shelves and ensure that some of the poorest residents of our community receive food. The greatest needs are: peanut butter, jelly, tuna fish, canned vegetables, canned fruit, cereal, pasta, and sauce. Please drop your items off at the Community Center and we will deliver them to the soup kitchen. New Horizons and the recipients of the food are very grateful for your generous donations.
