1 St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral 650 Hanover Street Manchester, New Hampshire Tel Fax FATHER ANDREW S MESSAGE HE IS RISEN! You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. (Mark 16:6) I had read these words for years from the Holy Saturday morning Gospel lesson. They were part of the service, but they didn t sink in right away. I was blurry eyed, by that point in Holy Week, from all of the words from the Scriptures I had read during all of the services. Then, one year, (can t remember which one) I read these words, looked up to see the now bare Kouvouklion (Epitaphio), and returned to the page as the quote from above appeared on the page before me. This time, however, they seemed to rattle me and I began to get very emotional. I assumed it was due to fatigue from the many services; the early and late hours in church. But no, it wasn t that at all. I was experiencing what the women had experienced when then got to the empty tomb. I was experiencing, finally, the awe, the fear and the trembling which they experienced as they were told and what I was finally hearing and comprehending myself. HE IS RISEN! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. It may seem strange for me to say that. But I evidently had been consumed for many years, just as many of you have been, by all the pomp and ceremony of the services. I evidently had missed the primary message and purpose all those years. HE IS RISEN! He is not here, see the place where the laid him. I finally realized that the cornerstone of our Christian Orthodox Faith is the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is where it all begins and ends with and for us. This is the purpose for our journey here on this earth. We finally understood that we are here to crawl, sometimes trudge, sometimes run to journey s end; our own resurrection from this temporary, sometimes difficult life, to a transfigured life in the Kingdom, where all the pain and suffering of this life is gone. It is a place where we see God, face to A P R I L face, where we are refreshed, experience the beauty and the eternity of the Kingdom of God. However, we don t have to wait till we leave this earth to get a taste of the future life and glory of God s Kingdom. Living in Him and trying our best to live according to His principles of love, mercy and compassion for each other will give us this taste of the glory of His Kingdom. It all began and begins with the Resurrection of God s only son, Jesus Christ. That is what Great Lent, Holy Week and church are all about. It began and begins with He is risen! Why? Because HE IS RISEN and has destroyed the eternity of death by His death and to those in the tombs then, now and forever, He has bestowed life, for those who believe. I believe He IS Risen! (Reprinted) Father Andrew STEWARDSHIP Though the St. George Stewardship Program is in its infancy, my heart is warmed by the numbers of families who have stepped up to make a pledge and support our community. To date, 139 congregants have completed and returned their pledge form and have committed over $51,000 towards our $200,000 goal. Our desire is that we have all of our pledge forms returned to us by April 15th so that our budget committee can make accurate income projections as we move into the slower summer months. I am not asking that payment be made at this time but merely that anyone who has not committed as of now that you put pen to paper to pledge your support of this ever so important piece of our cathedral s financial well being. Thank you for all the support and well wishes our committee has received during this very important transition year. My best, Greg Timbas Stewardship Chair.

5 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Dear Fellow Parishioners, As I began writing this letter the sun was shining and it seemed that we would truly see spring soon! By the end of the day snowflakes were flying once more! I think that we are all more than ready for spring. Our church calendar reflects the coming of spring and with it Pascha. There are many church services between now and then that afford us the opportunity to prepare our souls for Pascha. I hope that many of us will take time out of our busy schedules to attend them. Congratulations on a job well done by our Apokreatiko Glendi committee!! A wonderful time was had by all who attended and it was very successful. Building on this success I look forward to an equally successful St. George Name Day Dance on April 26. Come with your friends and families as we celebrate the Name Day of our church. This month s newsletter also includes a form for GLENDI ads and the patron list. We are starting early so that we can recruit more people to take out ads from businesses that we support within our community. Take a form with you when you go to pick up your dry cleaning or have your car serviced. By reaching out to more businesses we can increase the amount of income that the Glendi ad book generates. It is one sure way to increase the profit of GLENDI without cooking one more thing! Let s all work together as a team to insure that this year s GLENDI is the best of all time! A special thank you to everyone who has returned their Stewardship Pledge Cards and has either made their payments in full or committed to making their payments throughout the rest of the year. Without your support we would not be able to continue to function as an active community. Haven t returned yours yet? Now is the time! The Anagennesis Ladies Society will be sponsoring the Palm Sunday Fish Dinner. Buy your tickets early! Once again this year we will be having a Paschal Pot Luck Dinner following the Resurrection Service. It was a big hit last year. If you are planning to attend please let me know what you will bring to share. Let us break bread together and celebrate Pascha! On behalf of the Board of Directors I want to extend our best wishes to you and your families for a Kalo Pascha. Sincerely, Nikki Moutsioulis ANAGENNESIS NEWS EASTER: Kouloura (Easter Bread): On Sale: $10.00 Palm Sunday Time: 11:30 p.m. 2:00 p.m. Holy Wednesday Time: 3:30 p.m. 4:30 p.m. & 6:30-7:00 p.m. Contact: Tana Gustafson or Cindy Gatzoulis Klinefelter Easter Eggs: We will be accepting dyed Easter eggs from Holy Thursday through Holy Saturday. Afterwards, rather than our traditional lesson from Father Andrew, the children attended part of the Heritismoi service. We finished off the evening with a Lenten supper. I look forward to seeing everyone again in April! Sia Cote Hope/Joy Advisor 6

In 2009, it formed a new partnership between its parent organization, Health Imperatives, in Brockton, MA and the Daughters of Penelope Bay State District #8. Trained professionals help residents of Penelope s Place to balance their healing from trauma with their need to acquire critical life skills to prepare for transition into more independent living. Our local chapter of the Daughters of Penelope has a box in the lobby of the Community Center. It is labeled with a Wish List for residents of Penelope s Place.
